WHY I POST VET BILLS

I occasionally post vet bills:
* to assure supporters that contributions are used as represented
* to show that contributions SELDOM meet the costs incurred
* to show that rescuers invest more in their mission than is received
* to show the costs created for others by irresponsible pet owners
* to educate readers about the overall cost of rescue work
* to hopefully encourage additional contributions
* to hopefully encourage responsible per owners to help urge others to also be responsible pet owners because when they are not, tax-payers (shelters), rescues and generous cat-lovers pay the bills for their irresponsibility.

Some people suggest that I could save $ by doing less per animal, or using free services provided by other organizations (like free microchipping at the Henderson Animal center or at a Rusk County Pets Alive event) or doing certain things in-house instead of through Animal Protection League (APL) and I have researched all the recommendations I have received.

And we do a number of things in-house like some vaccines, pre-neuter/spay deworming and follow-up deworming, ongoing flea treatment if required, bulk ordering when feasible, etc. but APL provides the most convenient, most time efficient, most cost effective combination of services and creates less stress on the cats than multiple vet trips because all is done in one trip and the cat is adoption ready right after recovery.

So there you have it. :)

YESTERDAY's $1086 CAT BILL

We took a total of six (6) cats to APL on Wed. Two have already been adopted and another is headed to Petsense tomorrow. That was two more than planned, but adopters came forth for two more so we took them as well.

Their new lives could not begin without responsible vetting beforehand and that cost $1086.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO CONTRIBUTED AT THE LAST MINUTE!!

Your generous contributions covered about 50% of this bill, so you effectively provided new lives for three (3) of the six (6) cats that this bill is for. HOORAY!!! Their photos are below.

I am hopeful some other cat lovers will join you and chip in for the other three (3) because we have a BUNCH more waiting in line for vetting and we are out of funds without cat-lovers chipping in. https://txcat.org/donate/

OUTDOOR CATS ARE FINE...
until they are not.

Cars, coyotes, owls, hawks and cruel people make sad endings for roaming cats.

Keep what you love protected. For cats that may mean indoors or securely enclosed depending on your location.

WE HAVE A PROBLEM

According to family and friends I have a lot of them, but that's another story. :)

The current problem is related to cats... who woulda guessed it? :)

We recently partnered with another rescue and a petstore in Nacogdoches, Texas for the purpose of finding homes for as many cats and kittens as we can. We all agreed that we wanted to keep the four display kennels in the store occupied by cats and kittens at all times. Each day a kennel is empty could be a missed adoption for a furbaby.

Since 10/01 we have had 11 adoptions into loving homes! That is almost ONE EVERY DAY! Two more are being transported to the store Monday 10/14.

THE PROBLEM IS that adoptions are going so fast, that we will soon be out of recent kittens and cats who are already vetted and ready to go. Our recent 24 kitten campaign only raised enough for 12. So we still need to raise about $2500 for the remaining 12.

And additionally we still have kittens who were born here growing but have not yet reached surgery age. We have over 35 cats and kittens pending surgery because we have not yet raised the additional $4100 that is needed AND our surgery appointments are not until Nov and December which means kennels could sit empty for many days and ADOPTIONS MAY BE MISSED unless we can get more prepared for adoption.

IF WE CAN RAISE THE FUNDS, then we can transport them to other surgery locations to get them prepared sooner than December and they could be in loving homes by Christmas.

If you can help make that happen, please do and share with others who might sponsor a cat or kitten.

PUPPY ATTACKED BY DOGS SEEKING ASYLUM

The wounds on this super smart 8-10 week old puppy suggest that she may have been hit by a vehicle or thrown from one. She also has some cuts on her neck which are healing well. As if all that wasn't bad enough, then some bigger dogs attacked her. Poor baby cannot get a break,

Fortunately, her finder rescued her from that peril and is now caring for her until her forever home can be found.

I AM NOT KIDDING

When I say that all these cats and kittens are eating us out of house and home, here is their monthly autoship order from Chewy. Last month's food supply will all be eaten up by October 24th. (sad face)

When you send items From our Amazon Wishlist, or direct from Chewy or make a contribution for food it really helps. :)

We sorely need to raise funds to get kittens vetted that have been here so long as now they must be segregated by males and females because they are 4 months or older.

This food bill will go down when the number of a cats under care are reduced through adoptions, but until then, they gotta eat.

EMERGENCY RESCUE NEEDED FOR TWO KITTENS

Please share this NOW.

MT. PLEASANT, TX SHELTER: (903) 575-4174 - Yesterday there were three but one passed away so today there are only two. The shelter is overwhelmed and it does not provide vet care. The unkemptness of the kittens in the photo suggests that staff probably does not have enough time to attend to them as they need and unless rescued or adopted SOON they will very likely be killed.

CAN YOU RESCUE, ADOPT, OR FOSTER THEM TO SAVE THEIR LIVES?
