WHY I POST VET BILLS
I occasionally post vet bills:
* to assure supporters that contributions are used as represented
* to show that contributions SELDOM meet the costs incurred
* to show that rescuers invest more in their mission than is received
* to show the costs created for others by irresponsible pet owners
* to educate readers about the overall cost of rescue work
* to hopefully encourage additional contributions
* to hopefully encourage responsible per owners to help urge others to also be responsible pet owners because when they are not, tax-payers (shelters), rescues and generous cat-lovers pay the bills for their irresponsibility.
Some people suggest that I could save $ by doing less per animal, or using free services provided by other organizations (like free microchipping at the Henderson Animal center or at a Rusk County Pets Alive event) or doing certain things in-house instead of through Animal Protection League (APL) and I have researched all the recommendations I have received.
And we do a number of things in-house like some vaccines, pre-neuter/spay deworming and follow-up deworming, ongoing flea treatment if required, bulk ordering when feasible, etc. but APL provides the most convenient, most time efficient, most cost effective combination of services and creates less stress on the cats than multiple vet trips because all is done in one trip and the cat is adoption ready right after recovery.
So there you have it. :)
