These funds will be applied to vetting animals who do not have sponsorship. Animals adopted from the shelter, their sponsorship funds will also

be applied to other unsponsored dogs or cats in need. ALL POSTED ANIMALS ARE LOCATED AT THE VANCE COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER.

🤍 Meet Lola — Soft Fur, Soft Heart 🤍

Lola is a 3-year-old, 48-pound tan-and-white pit bull terrier mix with a sweetness that can melt anyone’s day. Recently surrendered, she’s still trying to understand why she’s in the shelter, and her gentle confusion shows in her eyes — but so does her hope.

This beautiful girl is incredibly lovey, affectionate, and soft in every possible way. Her short, velvety coat makes her extra irresistible to pet, and she leans in for every bit of kindness offered. Though still adjusting, Lola’s natural curiosity is beginning to peek through as she explores new sights and smells with quiet interest.

Our Story

PLEASE DONATE TO HELP THE HOMELESS ANIMALS OF VANCE COUNTY AND SURROUNDING COUNTIES!

In 2010, over 3700 dogs and cats were impounded at the Vance County shelter, according to the 2010 Public Animal Shelter Report. Of those, 74 percent of the dogs and 93 percent of the cats were euthanized, either by gas chamber or by heart stick. Since RCAPS started working with the Vance County shelter in 2011, thousands dogs and cats have been saved. Now, close to 95 percent dogs and 70% of cats impounded at the shelter are adopted or rescued.

Ruin Creek operates with only a small group of volunteers and is funded almost entirely by donations from concerned animal lovers. We do our best, despite our limited funding, to save every animal impounded at the Vance County animal shelter. Among our other activities, we provide emergency medical care to animals who arrive at the shelter ill or injured, we advocate for the animals and connect them to rescue groups, and we arrange for the testing and health certificates needed to get them to rescue. Every Friday night our Freedom van, loaded by RCAPS volunteers, carries dozens of animals from kill shelters in Vance and surrounding counties to rescues between North Carolina and New York.
