**Pick Up a Pup, Make a Friend, Have Some Fun!**

Looking for a fun way to brighten your day while helping a shelter dog? Join our Doggy Day Out Program! Take one of our lovable dogs on an adventure and give them a break from the shelter. Whether it’s just for an hour, a day, a weekend, or even a whole week—you decide!

**Pick-up/Return Times:**
- **Monday–Friday:** 12pm – 6pm
- **Saturday:** 9am – 12pm

We’ll provide everything you need:
- **Leash**
- **Toy**
- **Treat**

All that’s missing is YOU!
Take them for a fun walk in the park, grab a pup cup, or let them relax at your place for some extra love and snuggles.

**How It Works:**
1. Pick up a dog during our available hours and sign our form.
2. Spend time having fun with your furry friend.
3. Return the dog at your convenience within your chosen timeframe.

It’s not every day we get to post this kind of story. Doodle real name R***r went missing from his owners in April. They searched for him, posted him online, and contacted us but we did not have him. Over 1 1/2 months later R***r showed up as a stray. We had no way to know it was the dog from a month prior. We had R***r for over 2 months. He was almost adopted several times, but it never quite worked out. Today we found out why. He got to be reunited with his owners! We are so happy for you R***r aka Doodle Bug. It’s $5 Friday! We are asking for your help. Just this week, all 10 of these dogs were returned or abandoned. This doesn’t include the strays picked up by animal control who haven’t been reclaimed. We are over capacity on an already tight budget. We need funds for dog food, treats, toys, beds, etc…. If you can spare $5 on this beautiful Friday, together we can make a difference.

I have this thing called a “whip tail,” and the most dangerous part of me is how fast it wags—I’m just so happy all the time! Hey there, folks! The name’s Harry, and I’m a 3-year-old hound mix with a knack for sniffing out adventures and treats. You could say I’ve got a nose for fun—literally! Life in the shelter was a bit of a roller coaster. Imagine this: a place where the air is thick with the scent of kibble, the walls echo with barks, and the occasional squirrel taunts you from just outside the window. For a hound like me, it was like living in a theme park of smells! I was always the first to volunteer for a sniffing mission. My nose led me on countless escapades, tracking down every intriguing scent. Oh, and did I mention my baying sound? Whenever I thought I had cornered a squirrel or rabbit, I’d let out this adorable howl that made everyone smile. It’s like my own personal alarm system, alerting everyone to my discoveries.

Now, I have a bit of a reputation for being an escape artist. My foster family nicknamed me Harry Houdini. However, they say now that I’ve had some time to settle in, a big backyard to run in, and a couple of dog playmates, I have stopped trying to escape. I even listen when they leave and tell me to get back, instead of trying to get out the door with them now. I’m making such good progress.
I am also really sweet and loving. I have really became much more affectionate now that I feel safe.

I was one of the best behaved dogs at our adoption event, showing off with my sit and shake skills. I got to love on every little kid that came by and that made me so happy. Kids are the best! I’m a really smart boy who is eager to please.

Oh! If you need a guard dog to alert you of intruders or rogue squirrels, I’m your guy. I have a really soft raspy bay for a bark so it’s not very loud or intimidating. Just enough to let you know something is afoot.

So if you have a nice fenced yard for me to run in, and some kids or other dogs to play with, I’m your guy! Come meet me and let’s sniff out a lifetime of fun together!

Hello, kind humans! My name is Magnolia, and I am a 5-year-old female dog. Recently, I had puppies, but I came to the shelter by myself a couple of weeks ago. The transition has been tough, and I was incredibly scared when I first arrived. In fact, I was so frightened that I even turned down a delicious chicken strip offered to me by a kind volunteer.

However, as the days have passed, I’ve started to settle in a bit. The staff and volunteers here are really nice, and I’m beginning to accept their kindness. They take me outside to run around, which I absolutely love. The fresh air and open space make me feel a little more at ease. I even follow the volunteers back to my kennel without needing a leash, showing them that I trust them enough to lead me back to my safe space.

Inside my kennel, I’ve found comfort in a nice, cozy blanket. There’s something so soothing about curling up on it and feeling its warmth. It helps me feel a bit more secure in this new, unfamiliar environment.

I must admit, I’m a little slow to warm up to people. It’s not that I don’t like them, it’s just that I’m a bit nervous and tend to keep to myself. Hi, my name is Westin. I'm a 4-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix, and I've had a bit of a rough time lately. My previous owners loved me, but they had to leave me with a friend, and things didn't go so well there. They had young kids, and I must admit, I can be a bit food aggressive. It's not something I'm proud of, but I've had times in my past when I was really hungry, and I haven't quite learned to trust that there will always be enough food for me.

So, I ended up here at the shelter. It's not the worst place, but I don't get out of my kennel very much, and that makes me sad. I miss the freedom to run and play, and most of all, I miss having someone to love me.

I know I shouldn't be so aggressive over food, and I don't mean to be. It's just that old habits die hard, especially when they've been born out of fear and uncertainty. But I'm not a bad dog. Weighing in at just over 60 lbs, I'm a handsome Black Lab mix who loves to have a good time. So, here's the scoop: I was picked up as a stray after someone reported seeing a dog (yours truly) jumping in and out of the river near the Newburgh Dam. Needless to say, I have a thing for water—okay, maybe more than a thing, I LOVE water! The shelter staff thinks I'm about 6 years old. I've definitely outgrown the puppy phase, but I still have plenty of energy for adventures. I do get a bit scared in the shelter, though. It's noisy, and walking through the kennel runs can be intimidating. But once you get me outside, I warm right up and show off my sweet, playful side. The Humane Society of Henderson County (HSHC) is a 501(c)3 charitable organization in Henderson, Kentucky. We are dedicated to the elimination of cruelty, abuse, neglect and abandonment of domestic companion animals. We provides a safe haven to the unwanted, abandoned, abused, neglected and homeless animals of Henderson County. Employees and volunteers of the Humane Society of Henderson County work tirelessly to find forever homes for our animals.
