Our Quarter Horse gelding, Casey, is a wonderful walk-trot horse for beginning riders. He has a fine-tuned palette and loves to eat homemade treats and snacks from everyone at the stables. Casey is very patient with all ages but he does like to be the boss with his friends, especially Cinco, his number one equine friend!

Horses are basically superheroes…

They have so many unique gifts, including their amazing vision.

Because horses' eyes are positioned on the sides of their heads, they can see almost all around them. Their only blind spots are directly in front of their faces and directly behind them. How would you like to have almost 360-degree vision?!

Equine Interactions can look different from person to person—not all interactions are mounted, riding experiences.

Healing Reins provides adaptive lessons for individuals who may be physically limited, don’t enjoy riding, or simply are better served through unmounted interactions with their horse.

Unmounted adaptive horsemanship lessons allow participants to grow in their skills by engaging in activities such as grooming, bathing, or leading the horse through obstacle courses.

Our programs are not a one-size-fits-all approach. Each lesson is specifically curated with the participant in mind!

Fun Fact: Did you know horses have an amazing memory?

Our equestrian friends might outdo us in memory at times—they can remember people’s faces, familiar places, and even other horses for many years.

This is part of the reason they make such great companions for our participants! Their strong memory helps them relate to and serve the unique needs of their rider.

Meet our incredible Executive Director, Monica Fella!

As we step into the new year, Monica is more determined than ever to make a lasting impact in our community. Her vision for 2025? To empower even more lives through strengthening existing programs, strong community partnerships, and community awareness. Monica is not only an Executive Director but also a PATH Certified Instructor. She is excited to implement into her lessons; continued expansion on the sensory trail and many new pieces of adaptive equipment that Healing Reins received through Grants in 2024.

With a heart for service and a passion for helping others, Monica is committed to ensuring that Healing Reins continues to thrive and create positive, transformative outcomes. In this new year, she’s focusing on expanding our outreach, expanding our volunteer base, and building stronger relationships with our supporters. A new office space dedicated to Healing Reins is an exciting addition that will help with our communication, teamwork and overall organization of programming!

Here’s to a year full of growth, progress, and making a difference! 💙

Behind every first-time participant, there is a story of challenge, heartache, or need. But with each passing session, we see their story begin to change. In place of challenge, there are small victories. In place of heartache, there is joy. In place of need, there is healing.

We exist to offer healing to individuals facing unique challenges in our community. Every need looks different, but we believe they all can be lightened with the hope of a million little victories. We’re proud to be a place where healing can happen.

Congratulations to year-roud riders, Luke and Abbi Kate, for their stellar participation in the Bridge the Barns show series in 2024! 🎉

The final show of the year was held on December 14, and Luke and Abbi Kate both brought home several ribbons. We are so proud of their hard work!

Both of these participants groom, tack, and ride completely independently and compete in traditional horse shows with other riders in their age groups. We are proud to serve our diverse and gifted Healing Reins community.

Ever wish your body could adapt to the cold? ❄️

Did you know horses CAN?

When cooler temps and shorter days come, horses’ coats respond by growing thicker and more dense hair. Their outer coat then traps air, acting as a layer of insulation to keep the horse warm!

Not all horses need blankets—some of these amazing friends have all they need to keep warm!
