At Healing Reins, our mission is “to assist individuals with special needs in meeting their full potential through interaction with horses”. Through equine-assisted services, we help enhance participants physically, emotionally, cognitively, and socially. These services build balance & coordination, flexibility, core muscle strength, sequencing, speech and communication, self-esteem and self-confi
dence. Your tax-deductible donation will fund the tools needed to provide a safe and effective environment for our services. This Includes equine care, facility fees, adaptive equipment, certified instructors and other costs associated with this program. Two years ago, Brooke had her first lesson with Twister. The rest is history!
With help from Miss Stacy, Brooke has made huge strides in her self-confidence, responsibility, independence, and willingness to step out of her comfort zone to try new things. She’s gotten physically stronger, too!
Brooke’s mom, Annette, has loved seeing her progress. She shares, “Healing Reins is a wonderful organization. The outreach and inclusion is incredible! I’m forever grateful to the staff for giving my daughter a safe place to grow.”

Happy Disability Independence Day! Today we celebrate the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act into law. The ADA was a landmark event that established disability rights as civil rights and paved the way towards equal opportunities for people with disabilities.
The Healing Reins Sensory Trail has had some wonderful updates lately, including general maintenance and progress on the stations, thanks to volunteer Tom Adamson and United Way! Four stations of the sensory trail are now complete!

Our Mobile Experience visited the Henderson County Family YMCA this month. Healing Reins provided a new escape room activity called the “Stable Stampede” to an excited group of summer camp kids. The fun challenges built skills in sorting, hand eye coordination, counting, measuring, critical thinking, and equine education! Everyone received a summer reading book about horses thanks to our friends at Dollar General!

Yes, unmounted lessons are a thing!
Unmounted horsemanship lessons are a GREAT alternative for individuals who may be physically limited for riding, don't enjoy riding, or are afraid of riding.
Participants grow in their skills from grooming, bathing, or leading the horse through obstacle courses. Just look at all the benefits!
The best part? Our certified instructors tailor the unmounted experience to match the participant’s needs, so they can get the most out of it!

Meet Shannon, one of our horse-loving volunteers!
Shannon spent her childhood on a horse farm, caring for and riding horses. Working in healthcare the past 27 years, she spends her time in and out of the workplace helping others. She shares, “It's very rewarding connecting with the participants and helping them in their growth. I love watching the relationships they form with their horses. Volunteering at Healing Reins gives me the best of all of this.”

The Healing Reins Mobile Experience came to the John F. Kennedy Community Center in Henderson on June 18. Our Mobile Experience provides an educational, walk-through learning lab, complete with our two loveable miniature horses, Spud and Rocky. Thank you to JFK and all the kids!

Melissa McCann is an outgoing Board Member and has served on our Board since 2021. When she joined, some of her goals included finding ways to increase Healing Reins’ appearance in the community and partner with local mental health providers to help those struggling. “Healing Reins has the ability to remind people what they are capable of accomplishing and that they can be strong and face the challenges that life has given them”.

Meet one of our wonderful volunteers, Sandy Snyder!
As soon as Sandy heard about Healing Reins, she knew she wanted to be a part of what we’re doing. With us since our first meeting at Rolling Hills Equestrian Center, Sandy has served participants at Healing Reins for years.
Sandy puts effort into deepening her relationships with each participant, and she regularly escorts Spud and Rocky to events, where people in our community have the opportunity to connect with and enjoy our two special miniature horses.
Sandy shares, “going to the barn just makes my life better.” That’s our hope for every person who encounters Healing Reins!
