Pulled our first baby of the year last night!

A couple tips for calving season:
-Before a cold front make sure you have in date colostrum on hand in case everything doesn't go perfect. They need that colostrum within 12 hours of birth. If not they can die from septic infection within 2 weeks of birth.

-If you do have a calf sicle be sure to warm them up before tubing colostrum. If the floor board of your truck isn't working you can put in a warm bathtub until at least 98 degrees. Dry well afterwards.

-Bring your cows up after 2 hours of active labor with no progress and your heifers up 4 hours after active labor with no progress and either check them or just bring straight to us. It never hurts to bring one in that is due and having labor like symptoms in case there's an issue like a backwards calf.

-If you do check her on your own make sure you have clean hands or gloves to prevent infection in her and good l**e. If you don't have any progress in 15 minutes, stop and bring her in.
