Stephen was back for Puppy Program today!
🐾
I got the cutest photo of his little teddy bear paws!! He is doing amazing! His mom really does make his training such a priority and all her hard work is certainly paying off! So proud of them! Can’t wait to see him back next week for his final Puppy Lesson!

🐾
They’re a happy go lucky crew so they all did great! We practiced “out”, “let’s go”, and “stay over here” during the social. This is a great opportunity to make sure that the dogs are able to still listen to commands even when there are other dogs around and even if they would rather be playing!

Ahhh-ha I told yall I’d have TWO updates for yall!
🐾
The B&Ts all had their first lesson with Gaia today! Gaia is such a trooper, I really need to start making Fido “help mommy train dogs” too….but he has such crazy energy and Gaia is so calm and neutral. Oh well one day he’ll have to start earning his keep around here!
🐾
Each of the B&Ts did great! The purpose of this lesson is to see their reaction to another dog and to out them away from her a few times. Then practice some commands with her in the room as a distraction. Mainly during this lesson I’m evaluating to see how they feel about there being another dog. Are the excited, nervous, annoyed, anxious, oblivious? Then I want to make sure no matter how they feel about her, can they take their focus off her. Can they focus on me and still listen to commands? Well the answer for this group….yes! They each did great. They each showed appropriate interest and excitement and they all were able to out away and listen to commands! Next up I will work them outside while the social is out there (on the other side of the chain link fence) and assuming they do just as well with that they’ll be ready to go into the social! Also, we will do a few more heel sessions outside then they’ll be ready for field trips! So fun!
🐾
Also….its a well known fact that Gaia has RBF, don’t judge her she’s a good good girl!

B&T Update!
🐾
These three cuties had their first heel session outside! We walked up and down the street in front of my house and for their first time they each did really well! Typically my street is very quite so it’s a nice way to ease into working around distractions, but today we had some work being done at the house next door that acted as a fairly big distraction and the pups handed it well!
🐾
Biggest Strengths and Struggles for them each was-
Rasco: ✅Auto sit was amazing ❌Staying on the left side and not wondering uber to the right was a challenge. But was able to make significant improvements in one walk!
Albert: ✅Stayed in a relatively good position ❌Hattteesss the auto sit but we needed with a few good ones in a row!
Banks: ✅Did really well overall ❌If I don’t stop frequently for check ins he gets distracted which isn’t a big concern during the first walk!
🐾
Tried something new with the ✅ and ❌ but really overall I’m very happy with our their first walk went! I’ve got a fun idea for our next session so if I can make that happen today…you may be getting two updates in one day!

Schatzi is moving and we will miss her so much!
🐾
Most everyone knows Schatzi! Most often seen as a blur running through the yard during our play social, Schatzi is a well known RKDT regular. She plays with big dogs, small dogs and everything in between. She also loves a good mud bath! Schatzi trained with me in November of 2022 and has come weekly for daycare or boarding ever since.
🐾
Schatzi is off to a new adventure now, she and her mom moved into their new home together. While I will miss them both I am so proud of them and excited for them for their next adventure! I may still get to see Schatzi on occasion when if her mom ever has to come into town and I look forward to updates from them. Since Schatzi is so known and loved by my clients and follows I wanted to update yall on her adventures

Banks seems to enjoy working but gets overwhelmed quickly so we are moving a little slower with him because I don’t want to push him too hard and make training no fun!
🐾
We just had a free session playing with the ball together I thought that would be a good way for him to “clear his head” have a break and a little reset so he will feel ready to dive back into work next session! This play sessions is also acting as a confidence building session. He just was getting very clingy towards me and didn’t even want to step away from me to eat kibble off the ground. During our play session he really came out of his shell and was happy to run around the whole house!
🐾
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- we gotta move at the dogs pace! He is going to benefit much more from a play session break than he would if I pushed him when I could tell he was a little overwhelmed.

Albert is working on starting the ecollar today!
🐾
This sassy boy is so funny! If he is interested in working he does great! Buuuuuuut if he doesn’t ~want~ to he’s not afraid to let me know! I have found that taking breaks during our (already short) sessions has been helping him some so that’s good. Whatever the dog needs to be successful, we’ll make it work! So I will plan to make his sessions longer with built in break time for when he gets bored!
🐾
At this stage of training this isn’t entirely uncommon and it’s not a problem. As he progresses he will learn that these commands are not optional. Even if he doesn’t feeeeeeeel like working. That is what is going to be very important for him (and every dog) because even when there are high distractions, ensuring that the dogs can still listen to commands could potentially be life saving! (Think command alike recall and out)

Rasco started ecollar work today!
🐾
So far we have done sit and place on the ecollar. He is catching on quickly and responding well! His kennel manners have improved gratify over the last couple of days so he is whining/baking significantly less. He is also happily working for his kibble which is always a great thing. He’s biggest challenge at the moment is jumping up. He has certainly made improvements but still likes to try and get away with it on occasion.

I got to visit Sweet Pea at her new house today! I wanted to pop in to show her parents how I do her nails and she of course was an angel for that!
🐾
I got to see her in her new backyard and she loves it. I can tell she is so happy there! Her parents say she is doing great and they really love her. I think it’s the perfect fit!

Meet Apollo!
🐾
This adorable 3 month old Bernese Mountain Dog Puppy started Puppy Program today! He is so sweet, soft and cuddly! His family has been doing a really good job practicing some training with him at home. They are very committed to training him up to be a well behaved gentleman and to giving him the best life!
🐾
Today we did all of the day one basics- we talked about his daily schedule and ways to adjust that. We also talked about corrected puppy biting and jumping, getting him in a good feeding schedule and getting him on a nap schedule!! Apollo and his family are amazing and I am so excited to be working with them!

Lizzy dressed up as me for Halloween! How fun is that?!?
🎃
Both Gaia and Fido got to act as “props” for Halloween this year. There is no Rachel or RKDT without the one and only Gaia so she had to tag along with Lizzy! Then my baby cousin dressed as a firefighter so it only made sense for Fido to go with him! So much fun!

We’ve had great working sessions with everyone so far today! They’re all working in the doing collar now and they’re leaning all about what it means! Here at RKDT we use training collars as a communication device- meaning the dogs learn that leash pressure is something they should pay attention to rather than ignore / pull against!
🐾
Banks has learned leash pressure for sit and down today, with these two positions learned we can easily add those into other commands too!
🐾
Rasco also learned leash pressure sit and down. In addition he has started to learn the word “down”
🐾
Albert has learned leash pressure sit. Originally he was a little confused about food lure down, but after lots of practice he got it! We started to gradually introduce Leah’s pressure down as well but since he just learned food lure down we’re taking it slow!
🐾
Also….when I’m talking about leash pressure and food lure….idk if y’all know what I’m talking about. I want to keep everyone updated on where the dogs are with their training…but there’s a LOT that goes into what I do so I don’t know if it makes sense to non dog trainers haha. So simply put- they’re doing well💜

Board & Train Update!
🐾
Albert - Prior to coming to training Albert had an incident with the kennel that left him too scared to go in it. When he first got her he said “no way” to going in the kennel. He very quickly realized that the kennel isn’t scary and he is happy to relax in there in between training sessions and now he goes right in without a fuss! He is eating his kibble for me and with the help of a few yummy treats he is working for his food as well! So far today we have practiced luring into a sit. He’s catching on! Goals for him today are to continue to tidy up his food lure sit, do food lure down and if we can food lure place as well!
🐾
Rasco - Similarly to Albert, Rasco was not amused when I first put him in the kennel, now he’s walking right in! However, he does have plenty to say if he’s in the kennel and he hears me giving attention to another dog or if his housemate Banks is out of the kennel. We have been working on that and while he is still pushing his boundaries with what barking / whining is allowed (spoiler- the answer is none) I do think he is making improvements already! He has zero interest in working for / eating his kibble, but I really wanted to have a fun working session with him so with the help of some yummy treats he was able to food lure for sit and down! Goals for him the rest of the day are to food lure him to place and maybe recall and heel too!
🐾
Banks - Banks understands that the kennel is all about rest and relaxation….so much so that after a working session he has pushed me out of the way to get to his kennel, not once but twice! (No he’s not scared, I just food rewarded him the first time he went in there and now he firmly believes he’s going to get one every time so he is excited!) He is happily working for his food and we did some food luring sit and down so far. Goals for him for the rest of the day will be to food lure him for place and if we can go crazy heel and recall too!
🐾
I’ve said this before but I’m going to try and up my social media game and post more! Would yall rather see three individual updates for each dog, or one group update like this post?

Meet Rasco!
🐾
This cutie is the housemate of Banks! He is almost 8 months old. Similarly to Banks he is just a pup who is ready for his big boy manners! He and Banks like to play and rough house and let’s just say they prioritize playtime over listening to their owners. They do love to be together and spend time together so we want to make sure we help them continue to grow a good healthy relationship together so we can avoid any littermate syndrome.

Meet Banks!
🐾
Banks is 8 months old and just got dropped off for his three week Board & Train! His housemate is here with him too (posting him next!) Banks loves to rough house and play with his doggy friend and when they get to playing they have a hard time listening! Since his housemate is the same age as him, we are also going to treat them like littermates (they are not) so we will be making sure we lay a good foundation so we can prevent littermate syndrome from occurring.
