Another picture from her sister's visit. These two are litter mates who were purchased as puppies by a kennel to be bred. They lived their first 6.5 years of life together in the kennel having litters of puppies. In September, they were retired, and my neighbor and I adopted one each. Now Riley and Sunny are living their best lives as spoiled Golden Retrievers. They have both done well adjusting to their new homes and bonding with their moms, but also love to see each other.

Progress... Gracie has progressed from refusing to be in the room with Riley, to tolerating it with disgust, to the final picture, taken last night, where she let Riley lay next to her without a look of complete distain on her face. It helps that Riley always leaves a bite of food in her bowl like an "offering" to Gracie.

So I did a thing yesterday. Meet Riley. A beautiful 7 year old golden retriever who has spent her life producing puppies. She's very timid and still figuring out life outside of her kennel. But she is as sweet as can be and I love her already. She will help my heart heal from the loss of my sweet Sully, and I will teach her what it is like to be a beloved pet.

Our hearts are breaking today as we say goodbye to our sweet Sully. This boy was a hot mess express when he came to live with us in 2016. We had no idea what his past was, but promised him nothing but loving kindness for his future. So today we will take the final step in loving him and gently release him from his pain. It did my heart good to have a revolving door of neighbors come to say goodbye last night--he is well loved and will be missed by many. Run free my sweet boy and know how much you are loved and will be missed.
