Good rainy morning, 4-H Horse Club lovers, we unfortunately are having quite a rainy morning and will have to cancel Horse Club today.

March 16th Horse Club meeting was the best!
Thank you forever to Paula and Stephen Wilkes and Spirit Creek farm, our teen volunteers-Lorelei and Tim, our expert girls-Makenzie and Aubrey, all the parents that bring their kids to our club and especially the beloved horse Marshall and mini horse Sabastian.
We rode on Marshall, groomed Sabastian, feasted on hot dogs, wore green and got a prize necklace or bracelet.
It was a fantastic day on the farm.

Another wonderful Horse Club meeting at Spirit Creek Farm!
We learned about the different types of saddles, the parts of a saddle, and how to properly sit astride a horse. Some children reviewed the horse skeleton parts and many of them groomed Sabastion the blind mini horse. We roasted marshmallows(thank you Melissa Sampson for being in charge of the fire), ate lollipops, and drank juice.

Thank you to PK and Stephen Wilkins for the hospitality, our newest adult helper, Rica, our expert girls, Lorelei our teen leader, and all the many families that showed up and helped educate our members and quickly get all the items outside in from the rain.

Saturday, January 27th, we will be back at the farm for 4-H Horse Club! It starts promptly at 10am and lasts until 12pm.

It looks like 90 percent RAIN for Saturday so we have to cancel Horse Club for December! See you in January on the 27th! We will have a fabulous as usual club meeting on that day!

Our first meeting, Saturday, September 23rd, of the 4-H Horse Club was a fantastic event!
We had Glen Kansanback of Falcon Quest come to Spirit Creek Farm to teach us about birds of prey and how hunters on horseback used them for hundreds of years!
Ms. PK. Wilkins hung a tapestry with royalty on horseback hunting with falcons and dogs so the students could see what it was like hundreds of years ago.
Mr. Kansanback presented a Saker falcon, an Ianner falcon, a spectacled owl, and a barn owl and educated us on their hunting styles. He also brought along his pet ferret which is another animal that has been used by hunters to drive prey out of a warren or den into the hunter's gun or bow ranges.
After the presentation, some of the children had their picture taken with the birds and enjoyed grooming Sebastian the mini horse, and leading him around the property.

It's almost that time of year again!!!
September 23rd at 10am we will be starting up 4-H Horse Club for the 2023-2024 school year!
Our kickoff meeting will include a visit and presentation from a Falconeer! You must click the link I have provided and watch the movie! The movie is a true story of a young girl who hunts with golden eagles but our guest will have a falcon with him!
This is going to be a great start to our club!
NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO HOLD A FALCON OR AN OWL AND GET THEIR PICTURE TAKEN, BUT FOR THOSE WHO DO: A SMALL FEE OF $6.00 TO MAKE A MEMORY OF A LIFETIME.

There are some changes to attending Horse Club. First, you must register online and pay $10.50 to join for the year! You must pay on Thursday before coming to the farm! This will generate a list of people that we can expect and prepare for. This one-time fee will help us with our yearly supply costs. In March we will be making chia pets with our 4th graders like the ones below, but we use sections of pantyhose or stockings to hold the dirt and seed so we won't make a mess in the classroom or on the bus. We are in need of pantyhose or stockings, if you have some you would like to donate to for this project you can drop them off at our office, 602 Greene St., or we could possibly meet you to pick them up.
