Forever by Your Side
At Hillcrest-Flynn, where hearts find peace,
We honor the bond that will never cease.
Though paws grow still and wagging fades,
The love of your pet forever stays.

In quiet moments, you’ll feel them near,
A gentle nudge, a presence clear.
A bark, a meow, a soft embrace,
Memories woven time can’t erase.

The trails you walked, the games you played,
Echo in the love they gave.
Though their journey takes a different path,
Their spirit lingers, beyond the last.

Here, we ensure their rest is kind,
A haven for those they leave behind.
At Hillcrest-Flynn, we help you see—
In your heart, they’ll always be free.

General Tso’s crossed the rainbow bridge on January 21, 2025 at 4pm with his mom holding him until the very end.
General Tso’s was a stray estimated around 13 years old, he came into our lives when I purchased my home in the fall of 2022. He was untrusting of humans until he gained trust with his mom this past summer/fall, where she could finally get him medical attention, fixed and was able to bring him inside.
General Tso’s came into our home and loved his kitty siblings. He would greet you every morning when he knew it was time for his breakfast. He loved cat nip toys, cat treats and being held by his mom. General Tso’s loved cuddling on the couch with his sibling Tony. He loved to give his mom kisses and rub on her face when she held him. He was able to experience what love was after such a hard life outside. He was warm and happy the last 4 months of his life.
General Tso’s became ill with FIP, which is fatal for cats, and he rapidly declined. Thank you to Whispering Pines of Greenville and Dr. Miller and his staff for doing everything they could to make him comfortable during the last week of his life.
General Tso’s will always be remembered for his distinguished ears, that were drooped due to his life outside. Even though he was only in our home for a short period of time, we will always love him so much and will miss him. We will continue to TNR and care for the strays in our neighborhood, in honor of General Tso’s.
With love, Jenny, Ryan and your kitty siblings Stella, Tony, Tunie and Louie

Frigid Temperatures Are Here – Keep an Eye Out for Outdoor Dogs and Cats!

The temperatures have dropped dramatically, and it’s dangerously cold outside. As we bundle up to protect ourselves from the freezing weather, let’s not forget about our furry friends. Dogs and cats left outside in these harsh conditions are at serious risk of frostbite, hypothermia, or worse.

In Pennsylvania, it’s not just heartbreaking to see a dog or cat left out in the cold – it’s against the law. State law prohibits leaving pets outside for extended periods in extreme temperatures. If you see a dog left outside in these frigid conditions, please take action.

Here’s how you can help:
1. Check on outdoor dogs and cats: If you see a dog or cat outside for an extended period, try to politely notify the owner. Some may not be aware of the law or the risks.
2. Report neglect: Call your local animal control or humane officer if the situation doesn’t improve. Animal neglect is a crime, and your report could save a life.
3. Offer help: If someone you know is struggling to keep their pets indoors, offer solutions like temporary shelter or resources.

No animal deserves to suffer in the cold. Let’s all do our part to protect them. Together, we can ensure that no dog or cat is left out in the cold this winter. Please share this post.

A Gentle Goodbye

In the quiet moments, soft and still,
We feel the void, the space they fill.
The wag of a tail, the purr so light,
Echoes linger in the quiet night.

Their eyes, so wise, their love so true,
A bond eternal between me and you.
Though now they roam where we can’t see,
Their spirit lives in memory.

Grief may storm like a raging sea,
But love remains, a steadfast key.
To cherish the joy they brought each day,
And let their light guide the way.

For in our hearts, they still reside,
Running free, no pain to hide.
A life well-loved, a soul at peace,
Their love a gift that will never cease.

So when the ache feels hard to bear,
Close your eyes, they’re always there.
In every whisper, in every breeze,
In every rustle of the trees.

Though they’re gone, their love is near,
A gentle reminder: they’re always here.

It’s freezing outside, and while we may bundle up to brave the cold, our furry friends don’t have that same luxury. Please remember to keep your dogs inside during these frigid temperatures! Not only is it safer for their health and well-being, but it’s also the law in Pennsylvania.

According to PA law, dogs cannot be tethered outside for more than 30 minutes when the temperature drops below 32°F. Exposing them to extreme cold can lead to frostbite, hypothermia, or worse.

Let’s keep our pets warm, safe, and loved this winter. If you see an animal left outside in these conditions, report it to your local authorities. Together, we can make sure every pet is protected this season!

Protect Your Dog’s Paws This Winter

As temperatures drop, our furry friends need extra care to stay safe and comfortable—especially their paws! Just like extreme heat can burn their pads, freezing temperatures and icy surfaces can lead to frostbite and discomfort.

Here are a few tips to protect your dog’s paws during cold weather:

1. Check the Pavement: Before heading out for a walk, feel the pavement. If it’s icy or bitterly cold to your touch, it’s likely too harsh for your dog’s paws.

2. Watch for Signs of Frostbite: Frostbite in dogs often affects their ears, tail, and paws. If your pup’s paw pads look pale, bluish, or feel unusually cold to the touch, frostbite may be setting in. Keep an eye out for limping or licking their paws excessively.

3. Use Protective Gear: Dog booties provide a barrier between your pet’s paws and the cold ground. If your dog isn’t a fan of wearing booties, consider using paw wax to create a protective layer.

4. Limit Outdoor Time: On especially cold days, keep walks short and sweet. Aim for more frequent, shorter walks instead of one long outing.

5. Wipe and Inspect Paws: After walks, rinse and dry your dog’s paws to remove any ice, snow, or salt, which can cause irritation. Check for any cracks or redness.

6. Keep Paw Pads Moisturized: Cold weather can dry out your dog’s pads, making them more susceptible to cracking. Use a pet-safe balm to keep them soft and healthy.

Your dog’s comfort and health come first, so pay close attention to their behavior and adjust accordingly. A little extra care goes a long way in ensuring your pup enjoys winter safely!

Part 2: Holiday Plants Dangerous to Pets

Festive greenery is beautiful, but some holiday plants can pose a risk to your pets. Keep these plants in mind when decorating:
1. Poinsettias: While not as deadly as once thought, they can cause mild irritation and drooling if ingested.
2. Mistletoe: Can cause vomiting, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, and in severe cases, heart issues.
3. Holly: Berries and leaves are toxic, leading to vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy.
4. Lilies: Extremely toxic to cats, even small amounts can cause kidney failure.
5. Christmas Trees (real and artificial): Pine needles can irritate the mouth and stomach, while stagnant tree water may contain harmful bacteria or fertilizers.
6. Amaryllis: This plant’s bulbs are highly toxic, causing vomiting, abdominal pain, and tremors.

Decorate with care, and opt for pet-safe alternatives if possible. Your veterinarian or local pet poison helpline can help if you have concerns. Let’s keep the holidays merry and safe for everyone!
