The benefits of crating your “older” puppy: 1. Helps with potty training if your pup isn’t fully trained yet. 2. Provides them with safety and security. 3. Maintains a routine, which is crucial for their mental and emotional well-being, as well as overall good behavior. 4. Reduces separation anxiety. 5. Prevents destructive behavior. Keeping the crate a part of your pup’s life has enormous benefits to them, aside from these 5 areas. Your pup’s crate is like their own little bedroom. Somewhere they feel safe, can relax in, and can retreat to to escape the busy day-to-day activity around them and take a break. Yes, pups need a break from us too sometimes!Even if you choose to opt out of the crate when your dog is an adult and can be trusted, make sure they still have their own designated space that they know is theirs. ☺️Ask our trainers your puppy Qs live every Wed at 1pm here on Instagram, or drop them in the comments!
What should you do instead?👉 Monitor their water intake, especially before bed. Give them water at certain times (ie. Feeding & activity) and avoid leaving the bowl down until they are older and can control their bladder better. 👉 Young puppies won’t usually “tell” you when they need to go! Stick to a schedule and bring them out at their potty times. Cues (if they give them) come when they’re older.👉 Be consistent with your potty routine! When you take them, how you take them, where you take them, etc. so they learn where you want them to go ans what to do. 👉 Always watch your pup, and if you can’t, confine them to a smaller safe space like a playpen or crate. Movement engages their bladder and bowels so your pup will need to relieve themselves sooner if they’re moving around more. 👉 Puppies learn through repetition. Don’t expect them to know where you want them to potty just because you’ve shown them a few times. Take them there, on leash, EVERY time until they’ve got it. And if you extended their potty break times and they started to have accidents again, don’t hesitate to backtrack to create smaller windows for a week before building up again. Sometimes you have to take a temporary step back to make those huge leaps forward! 🐶 #pottytraining101 #housebreaking #newpuppyhelp #puppytraining #pomeranianpuppy

Ep. 77: Why Do Puppies Pee On Their Own Bed?
.
We’ve all been there: you think your pup is potty trained and you can trust them around certain things, then BAM! Potty accident! And it’s especially fun when they decide to go on a nice plush surface that is even harder to clean (and usually more expensive!).
😖
So why do puppies do this and how can you prevent it or even stop it if it’s now become a habit? This week on the Ask A Puppy Trainer Show Episode 76, Bethany and Sparky debunk some misconceptions about puppies having accidents where they lie and go over what you can do to make sure it doesn’t become an on-going issue.

Ep. 75: What A Puppy’s Night Schedule Should Look Like (When They Can’t Sleep Through The Night) 🌙
.
A good night’s sleep is something that can quickly disappear when we bring our new pups home! If your puppy can’t sleep through the night, usually that means YOU aren’t going to sleep through the night! Although this normally gets better in the first few months as our pups learn to hold their potty for longer spans overnight, sometimes this isn’t the case with all pups.
💩
If you have an older pup that is still waking you up through the night, or have a younger pup and want to make sure this doesn’t happen, Bethany and Sparky go over a night schedule plan you can follow to help with this right away in Episode 75 of the Ask A Puppy Trainer Show!
