While a long line isn't an every walk tool, it has many uses. Long lines can provide a safe way to give dogs extra room to explore a safe new area. They can also be great training tools, long lines can help with recall training puppies or new dogs.

Strapping good looks on our 9 year old senior dog Chap. These owners love to rescue and give older pups in shelters new opportunities and Chap hit the jackpot. However, early on it became quite clear that Chap was resource guarding his new owners and home and he was uncomfortable with strangers.

We got to work on obedience to build his relationship with his owners and to help him desensitize to strangers, show him people aren't all bad. We took our time at each session, then one day it clicked with him! Also happy to report, Chap’s owners have begun the search for the perfect playmate and companion for Chap. Another senior dog will have a chance to live out their life in a loving home!

Warms my heart to have had the opportunity to help them all.

People don't always think of walking as having structure or tools but that isn't quite true. Don't forget, treats are a tool! Collars and leashes are also tools and there are different kinds. There's also a range of walk structure from structured heeling to leisure sniff walks.

All dogs are different, so there are different levels and different tools for different dogs and situations. It isn't recommended to use a tool that you do not have experience using. Any tool can be harmful if used improperly. Please seek guidance from a professional trainer when considering behavior modifying equipment ('no pull' gear included).

A structured heel is a great behavior to teach and it can really come in handy. Walking in public spaces comes with more risks but we often have to take our dogs for walks on trails or in our neighborhood. Heeling comes in handy when passing other dogs/people during a walk, when crossing roads, when walking in a crowded space (like a park), or when walking in a store/building. Having your dog in a heel position also gives you the ability to react if you need to.

Darth and Leia (yes you hear the Star Wars connection), 2 young rescue Pit-mixes, needed manners work to stop jumping and other rude behaviors. Their parents wanted help with managing and training both pups as well as learning to communicate what they want from them.

These owners worked HARD daily and the Lowes walk through was proof of all their hard work! They graduated with flying colors and they have joined my maintenance program to ensure we are always moving forward! CONGRATULATIONS to them all!

Sniff walks are leisure walks you take with your dog when they get to sniff and explore the area with their nose. Sniff walks are important and provide significant mental stimulation and help tire them out. It also helps relieve stress, can improve mood, overall health, and is very enriching. Sniff walks are also suitable for almost all dogs, so many dogs with limitations can enjoy a sniff walk safely.

Christmas puppies are now adolescent pups and there's so much going on with them right now. It's important to remember that just because they look grown doesn't mean they are. They are going through so many changes and those changes will affect behavior.

Be patient, be consistent, and seek help from a trainer if you need it!
