This is the hard part of rescue, dealing with people who should NEVER have a pet of any kind who don’t love them enough to care for or keep them.

Unfortunately, our Christmas here hasn’t been so jolly this year. We unexpectedly lost one of our long term residents today💔

Red Hot has been with us on and off since 2016. After 3 failed adoptions, he has consecutively been with us since June 2021 after his last owner returned him due to having a baby. He has had a rough life… From arriving with a massive scar down his back, to not adjusting well at the kennel the first time he was returned, to being bounced around his entire life. At the age of 9, we had hoped he would spend his final years in a real forever home. It turns out, we have been his real home all along. But he deserved more than life in a kennel. He deserved someone who wouldn’t give up on him like so many others did.

Red Hot had so many friends here that loved him like their own. Our volunteers are the most dedicated people we have ever met to these dogs. He was fortunate enough to pass today with his favorite person by his side. Our hearts are all broken today.

Until we meet again, buddy…🌈

——————
Red Hot absolutely loved toys, chews, and treats. (and rolling in grass). Any donations made to this post will go directly to enrichment items for his kennel friends in honor of him so we can give them the best life possible while they are with us❤️

If you are a current volunteer/staff or former volunteer/staff, leave a memory or picture of Red in the comments❤️

Meet Bulldozer. He's a handsome and friendly 11-week-old boy that is social and great with other dogs. He's being spoiled in foster care and learning all about what good doggies do in a house. He heard there is this special time called Christmas and asked Santa if he could have a family. Santa's trying but needs some help... interested? Fill in the quick application at www.pawsafe.org

UPDATE: ADOPTED ❤️

Verti the sad puppy dog (he’s actually a really happy boy) , was returned back to us for house breaking issues. He just can’t get the hang of using the potty outside. We would like to point out the Verti is still only 7-8 months old. He was adopted from us when he was 5 months old. He has been in and out of shelters since he was even younger than he is now. He was originally from South Carolina and made his way to Virginia to find a new family.

Verti is a mixed breed (dna test highly recommended) . He is VERY sweet and who can resist that face? He does well with other pets and children. Just please remember he is a baby and still learning life. He just needs a chance ❤️

Today he woke up to his 164th day in the shelter. Zoro is a senior treeing walker hound that has been with us since June. This boy just wants a soft bed for his old bones and a yard to run in when his old bones warm up. Please share this boy far and wide, maybe when he wakes up for Christmas he will have a better view. (No homes with cats)

Lilah has been hospitalized for a week between two hospitals… she has undergone two major surgeries and has months of recovery and rehab ahead.

** background **

After being stomped by a horse and left suffering for days by her previous owners with no medical treatment for two severely broken legs and abdominal trauma, Lilah remains hospitalized following a two part surgical intervention. 🏥

She experienced an extreme compound fracture (bone exposure) of the left front leg which required amputation on Friday.

On Monday, an attempt was made to save Lilah’s right front fractured leg.

That effort was unsuccessful.

Once opened on the table, the surgeon found that a major nerve bundle had been severed by the broken bone causing irreparable damage to the leg.

She underwent a second amputation.

Had this girl received immediate medical intervention by her owners, both legs could most likely have been saved.

We now have a double amputee requiring long term care and treatment.

Lilah is estimated to be around 2-3 years old and is one of the SWEETEST most tolerant pups ever - which will help to bring a positive outcome as we move forward with her healing, recovery and rehab.

💸 Funding support still needed :

Winter Community Cat Feeding Tip ...

Cats need extra calories in the winter to keep extra fat layers on their bodies to keep them warmer in the winter.

Feeding adult food mixed with some kitten food (which has more calories than adult food) is a good option in the winter months.

🚩It is only necessary to feed more calories during the colder months.

SABRINA (A388406) video in comments

Welcome Sabrina. She’s a 3 year old terrier mix who was brought in as a stray and no one came looking for her.
Sabrina is pretty nervous and overwhelmed here in the shelter. She needs you to go slow with her and be patient. Please give her time to warm up to you and trust you.
Sabrina initially left the safety of her kennel to come outside, but then wanted to retreat back inside. I spent time down on her level and eventually she came close letting me give her affection and rubs.
In time this sweetie followed me around the playyard and took treats gently, but stayed close. She flashed a grin for her pictures hoping to capture your heart. She’s so ready to love and be loved. But, Sabrina needs to know you mean her no harm.
Sabrina is shy and timid, but don’t overlook her. She has spark and curiosity once she gets to know you. She wants a family and a home. Will you give this sweetie a fresh start? Come visit Sabrina at Cumberland County Animal Services. No appointment needed. Sabrina needs your love. 910 321-6852.

ADOPTED - 11/9/22

‼️URGENT STRAY HOLD UNTIL 11-09-22‼️
DOG #194, AT VET FOR TREATMENT: EMBEDDED COLLAR
MALE, HEELER TYPE, ADULT
FOUND: Preservation Dr.

The City of Cleveland guidelines state that the CACD is only permitted to provide vetting for sick/injured pets on a STRAY hold and only until the pet’s legal stray hold period has been completed. We do not have a vet on our staff, so all sick/injured pets will have to be adopted/rescued by the date posted.

The CACD is a stressful environment that is not suitable for urgent animals to stay due to potential risk of their illness spreading to other adoptable pets that are portraying as healthy. We do not have access/funds to necessary medical supplies that is needed to provide them with proper care like a vet’s office would.

As per the City of Cleveland guidelines for an OWNER SURRENDERED pet, these pets do not receive any vaccinations/vet treatment upon intake, because the owner is surrendering them to our CACD as is.

Again, the CACD does not have a Vet on staff and cannot provide treatment for OWNER SURRENDERED pets. We highly urge pet owners to use the CACD as a last resort option for placing your pet. Please keep in mind, while you are trying to rehome your one pet, the CACD is trying to find 1,500 or more a home.

The CACD has limited space as well as funds which causes us to operate within the parameters that are set in place.

For more information about a pet that is listed as urgent, or if you are interested in adopting an urgent pet, please come by during our business hours MON-FRI 12-5pm SAT 10am-12pm or give us a call at 423-559-3333.
ALL PETS LISTED AS URGENT MUST BE ADOPTED/RESCUED BY THE DATE THEY ARE POSTED FOR!
The current status of an animal will be shown in the photo description.

Questions about the animals will not be answered by animal control staff via Facebook/comments. For questions, you may contact Animal Control directly at 423-559-3333 or come by during business hours MON-FRI 12-5pm SAT 10am-12pm.

All adoption fees are $50.00 and includes spay/neuter, first set of shots, deworming, and rabies vaccination(if pet is over 12 weeks of age).
Adoptions are first come, first serve - No exceptions.

Cheetahs can run at speeds that rival sports cars! 😱

Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) are the world's fastest land mammals, and can reach speeds of up to 60mph in just three seconds!

We received this sweet message today-
Hello, I just wanted to reach out and express how grateful I am for your rescue. Back in 2017 I adopted Benny from an adoption event. Benny was such a terrified, scarred, unsocialized puppy. I remember he wouldn’t even get out of the transportation crate. He would flinch every time anyone would go to pet him. My heart broke for him. I brought him home that night and will never forget the first time I saw who he really was, who he is. He saw my cat and stopped cowering, stood up straight, and started wagging his tail! It made my heart melt. I sat on the couch and put him up there with me and we sat there until he fell asleep on my lap. He has become my heart dog, my best friend, I can’t imagine life without him. He continued to open up and has grown into such a big, goofy, love bug. Thank you is not enough. 💗💗
