BCHS meetings are held at 6:00pm the 3rd Monday of each month at the shelter, 2393 Mallard Rd., Hiawatha, KS . Come and find out our current activites and share your ideas with us. Spay & Neuter Program:
Early in 2010 BCHS members decided to seek funding for a spay/neuter program for overpopulation in Brown County. Our members visited with the community leaders in every town in Br.Co and also Tri

bal authorities, We heard the same thing from everyone "Pet overpopulation is a big problem in our community." The spay/neuter program became a reality when we received a donation from the Sac & Fox Tribe specifically for spaying and neutering pets. Then in July of 2010 BCHS was notified that our spay/neuter grant application to a private foundation had been approved and we were awarded a grant for the sterilization of dogs. The funds from both Sac&Fox and the grant were used to offer reduced cost sterilization of pets owned by families that can not afford the full cost. We believe the Spay/Neuter programs were a huge success and we plan to apply for addidtional grants to allow us to continue to offer assistance. Policy on Animals:
We currently accept stray animals brought in by animal control or police authorities from Hiawatha and surrounding communities. The shelter does not accept owner-surrender cats. This means an animal someone owns and they are choosing to get rid of them. However, there are instances when a family simply cannot keep their pet. Humanes society members try to locate homes and work with applicable rescue organizations that might accept them. The rescue groups that BCHS works with are great organizations that do their very best to ensure these animals go only to responsible new owners that will give the pet loving homes. Wish list:

Trash bags, kitchen or larger
Stamps
Collars (all sizes)
Toys- espescially for puppies and kittens
Flea & Tick treatment- for dogs and cats (all sizes) Donations are limited to Frontline or Advantix brand only. Dog food, dry & canned (Pedigree preferred)

These 5 cuties are the last of their litters looking for loving homes! 🤩
1st pic - “Sleepy” the last of the 7 Dwarfs to be adopted, loves belly rubs and playing with Max & Carson!
2nd pic - “Windy” and “Breezy” are 2 SWEET, laid back girls who love to be held and cuddled.
3rd pic - “Waffle Fry” and “Steak Fry” are both Beagle mix boys who are the cutest lil pups! They are full of personality and love humans!

These 5 lil mutt mix sweethearts weren’t chosen today so if you know of anyone that wants to adopt one, send them our way! We have no idea their breed but mama is 50ish lbs. They are so sweet and cuddly with the softest hair, cutest lil ears and most beautiful eyes.. 😍
Their owner didn’t want these lil pups so he surrendered them to a kill shelter and we stepped up for them when they were scheduled for euthanasia.. 💔
We LOVE you lil guys sooo much! 🥹

Today was absolutely AMAZING with a record breaking day for adoptions!!!
Xochitl (pictured below) was one of 14 - yes you heard that right - FOURTEEN BCHS pets ADOPTED TODAY!!! 😱😍
9 pups, 3 kittens, and 2 adult dogs aren’t sleeping in the shelter tonight and we couldn’t be happier!
Thank YOU to all the amazing adopters today - you all were sooo patient with us while processing the adoptions! 🥰

🐾 Happy National Shelter Appreciation Week! 🐾

This week, we’re celebrating our incredible Brown County Humane Society staff, volunteers, and board members who pour their hearts into every animal who walks through our doors. Each day, you all bring dedication, kindness, and compassion, ensuring every pet feels safe, loved, and cared for. The family atmosphere you all create and the consistent rotation of helping hands make such a difference.

I mean seriously doesn’t the name just fit her? 😂😍 This girl is possibly the cutest dog we’ve ever had at BCHS!!! 🥹🤩 Pictures don’t do her justice and I promise it’ll be love at first sight when you see her! 🩵 Tank 🩵
This lovable, handsome boy NEEDS a home very badly!! We have WAIVED his adoption fee in hopes it helps him get adopted sooner! He isn’t happy with the shelter life and it eventually won’t be in his favor if he stays here too long. He came in with a male dog and has played with different female dogs here but he should meet a future canine sibling just to be sure they get along. ❤️

Frizz and Velvet are at the vet today and we will keep everyone updated with what Dr Binns finds on these two sweethearts! Frizz weighed 103 lbs and is truly a gentle giant! 😱 Frizz got a bath and had some of his mats removed last night - THANKS Ashley!!!
