Wow! What a storm that came through earlier this evening, hope everyone is safe! If anyone is missing a super cute giraffe floaty, we rescued it! Upon baby giraffe’s arrival we performed a thorough wellness exam, and we are pleased to inform the owner that everything checked out great other than a few minor abrasions! 😉 So if this little guy belongs to you then please contact us at the clinic to be reunited! 🦒😁
We’ve continued to be ‘blown away’ by the absolutely adorable faces that have come in to visit us recently! 💨😍🐾

More new friends!! 😍 Bringing your pets in when they’re young for ‘Happy Visits’ helps them to understand the vet isn’t a scary place. Just stopping by to weigh them, sniff around, and get some love and treats from the staff can be helpful for future visits! 🥰

Now that it’s mid July the Nebraska weather is getting hot! Riggs and Bundy are here to remind you to stay “cool” out there with some warm weather reminders! 😁☀️😎

🏠 Keep pets at home: If possible, keep pets at home when it's hot outside.

❄️ Provide temperature zones: Create different temperature zones in your home to keep your pet comfortable.

🚗 Avoid leaving pets in cars: Cars can overheat quickly, even in the shade or with windows cracked.

🐕‍🦺 Take walks during cooler hours: Limit activity to cooler parts of the day, and avoid strenuous exercise.

🐾 Protect paws: Avoid hot surfaces like asphalt and cement that can burn your pet's paws.

💦 Provide water: Give pets plenty of fresh, clean water to prevent dehydration.

✂️ Consider a haircut: Ask your veterinarian if your pet could benefit from a warm-weather haircut or other protection.

And as always, if you have any questions about your pets health please reach out to your Veterinarian for guidance!

⭐️ 4th of July Reminder! ⭐️
Firework tents open up TODAY, June 25th! If you have not reached out to us to schedule an appointment if your dog suffers from firework anxiety then please don’t wait, give us a call now! Or if your dog already has a prescription for anxiety meds here is your reminder to go check how many you have left!

We have partnered with Wild Willy’s Fireworks this year to bring awareness to the stress and anxiety the fireworks can cause our pets. Wild Willy’s will be donating a portion of their firework sales to local rescue shelters!
Wild Willy's tent is located near the future home of Woodland Animal Hospital’s new building which is just south of the Nebraska bank building.

Please purchase your rockets, smoke bombs & other fireworks from Wild Willy's to show your support for the animals! 🐾🎆🎇🧨

Wild Willy’s tent is open from June 25th – July 4th, 9 am – 10 pm

And here are some tips to help your pet have a safe 4th of July!

Happy Veterinary Appreciation Day!
Thanks to all those in the veterinary industry for all your hard work and dedication to providing the best care to our beloved pets! ❤️

‼️ GAME TIME! ‼️
We asked our staff what each of their favorite animals are! (Since we all love dogs and cats, no one was allowed to say either of those just to make it more interesting! 😁)

✏️ Try to match up each staff member with their favorite animal! (Example: 1&A, 2&B, etc.)

⬇️ Comment below with your guesses and the person who has the most correct matches will get 10% off their next Wellness exam! 🐶🐈🐾

⭐️ Winner to be announced Monday! 🏆🥇

Fourth of July is right around the corner, and with that also comes fireworks. Storms also brew during this time of year, and all of these events can be terrifying for our pets. Just as humans, animals can and do experience anxiety. Anxiety can affect all breeds and ages of animals, but can affect each individual differently. If you are concerned your pet is experiencing anxiety, it is always good to consult with your veterinarian, since there are multiple ways to help reduce their anxiety.

If you and your veterinarian decide together your pet is in need of anti-anxiety medications, timing of the administration of these medications is key to the efficacy.

The earlier you discuss your concerns with your veterinarian, the better, as most anti-anxiety medications will not be as effective if they are not administered early enough prior to the triggering event. If your animal has anxiety with fireworks, please reach out now to get a medication protocol determined so they can have a happy Fourth of July as well!

Puppies and kittens oh my!! 🥰
Welcome Luna, Rusty, Watson, Ollie, Rouge, and Binxy! 🐾

⭐️ Fun fact! ⭐️
Have you ever noticed that sometimes when your dog has finished going to the bathroom they kick their feet backwards as if trying to cover it up. This is actually because your dog has scent glands within its paws. They kick to spread this pheromone, marking their territory.

✨Senior Spotlight✨

Meet Henry and Annie! ❤️

⭐️ Did you know, small to medium sized dogs are typically considered a senior at the age of 7️⃣ while larger dogs are usually considered a senior when they’re 5️⃣ or 6️⃣ years old, though it varies by the pet.

‼️Your senior dog’s diet is important!‼️
The amount and type of food you feed your senior dog is important for many reasons. Excess calories lead to excess weight and poor muscle condition, which makes moving aging joints difficult. More than 50% of dogs suffer from obesity and obesity-related illnesses. Maintaining an ideal weight and body condition will help keep your senior dog active.

April is National Heartworm Awareness Month!

Heartworm disease is caused by a parasitic worm that is transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito. Once inside the animal’s body, the worms grow and mature, eventually settling in the heart and lungs. This can cause severe damage to these vital organs and lead to heart failure, respiratory problems, and even death. Heartworm affects an animal’s health and quality of life long after the heartworms are gone.

Treatment for the disease is lengthy, expensive and can be difficult and painful for the pet. Preventative medication is the best way to avoid this suffering and expense. Preventing heartworm disease is relatively simple, and there are several options available to pet owners.

These are some great reminders about heartworm and if you haven’t started a preventative yet, please reach out to us so we can get your pet protected today! 🐾
