Spunky, sweet and wiggly, Dixie is ready to hop right into her forever home! This adorable girl is a great medium size, making her the perfect companion. She was originally adopted out as a puppy, then 6 years later found as a stray with no owner to reclaim her. We aren't sure what those 6 years entailed, but we know its only love and a forever home from this point forward! Dixie is extremely friendly with people and kids, and knows no stranger - making her able to live with kids and people of any age. She seems to struggle with a bit of separation anxiety and will need to be crated when left alone, but would love a home where her family works from home or is retired. She gets along well with other dogs with proper introductions, but prefers them calmer and low-key to match her own energy. Dixie would do best without cats in a home. True to her Jack Russell Terrier breed, she tends to chase prey animals! She is very smart, a great mix between affectionate and independent, housebroken, and ready to find her forever home. This guy is a little more on the shy side and hasn't been visited with by adopters. He tends to keep to himself until he knows you. With just a few minutes to open up, Eli comes out of his shell and comes around for attention. He just needs that patient adopter that understands he is scared in this environment. He does great with other cats, and would acclimate to dogs in the home as long as they are calmer. Eli would prefer a home with no young kids, as they tend to scare him. Fresh out of foster care, Coco is stepping into our Dog of the Week spotlight! This sweet girl did so well in foster. We just can't imagine what she's going through sitting in the shelter again. Coco has started to decline being back in the kennels, and we desperately want to get her out and into a loving home. Coco's foster parents fell in love with her sweet personality, and were able to give us information on how she is in a home. While some dogs are a gamble on how they'll do, Coco has experienced it, and we know for sure how she will react to leaving the shelter!
Coco is easily trained and redirected on walks, even spending an evening behaving perfectly on a patio in downtown Hickory. While she is still a little timid about getting in the car, she rides well and enjoys outings. Coco is great with other dogs of all sizes, and seems non-reactive to cats in the shelter. She started becoming housebroken and crate trained in foster care, but because she is in the shelter again, will need a little patience remembering. No big deal - Coco is super smart! She would also do fantastic with kids 6 and older. She can be nervous with little ones and high stimulus situations, but adjusts quickly and loves affection. Social butterflies are always easy to adopt out, and tend to leave quickly - except for Stella. Somehow, this pretty girl has sat in the shelter for months. Stella is the whole package - beautiful, social, playful, and spicy when she's got the zoomies. Stella arrived to HSCC as a mother, raising seven - yes, SEVEN - gorgeous kittens who have all found homes. Miss Stella is done with her own babies, but is extremely maternal, welcoming the new kitten residents with open arms. Stella is overall good with other cats, and would be fine with dogs, given time to adjust. Not only is she sweet as can be, Stella is a firecracker during her play moments. There's nothing funnier than watching Stella parkour off of the floors and wall only to chase around the "imaginary" things she does. We're sure she's seeing something we aren't when she flies around trying to catch whatever it is she sees. Living life as if she were in the movie "Fast & Furious," Louisiana makes her debut at HSCC with flare! If you've ever thought to yourself, "Man, I'd really love a dog with epic zoomies," then Louisiana begs for you to take her home. When we say this girl is a bundle of energy and speed, we mean it. Hardly any of our other dogs can keep up with her play yard antics, and it is hilarious to see this big-eared, little-bodied dog run around. Bingo was surrendered to us after his owner passed away, leaving him a little unsure of the world. He's a dog that desperately misses the comforts of a home, and has not acclimated to the loud and chaotic shelter environment, as many dogs don't. He's described as a "big baby" when he shakes in his kennel, until we leash him up for a walk, and his personality comes out! Then we see his happy, wagging tail and adorable antics. Despite his intimidating size and appearance, he would be the first dog in the shelter to come snuggle up next to you. Because of his uncertainty of the world after such big changes in his life, Bingo would thrive as an only dog! However, he does well with some other pups, but prefers females and more submissive/calm dogs. Bingo has been cat friendly here, and mostly chooses to ignore felines completely. Bingo would be fine with children 12 and older, but does not like children or adults that move quickly to take toys or food away from him. He can be protective over his things when he feels uncomfortable, but once he trusts you, his walls come down and he doesn't feel the need to defend his possessions. Talkative, confident and affectionate, Tails encompasses all the things you look for in a new kitty companion! Tails is sweet and outgoing, being a greeter at her colony door, waiting for you to come say "hi!" She loves to receive attention, but will sometimes return the love in the form of a "love nibble." That's where her inner sassy calico comes out. This doesn't hurt or break skin, but does mean that small kids may not enjoy her form of affection. Tails is a social gal, and can get along great with older kids, dogs and cats. Tails got her name based on a little quirky characteristic she has - she only has part of a tail! Due to some sort of previous injury, her previous caretaker found her in poor condition and moved forward with a tail amputation at a local vet's office. She's completely healed up and is ready for a forever home, where she can live out her days sunbathing in windows and getting love from her people. What's small, spunky, and full of fun? Myers! This pup has the mindset where he wants to go, go, go, and is always ready for a game of fetch. Myers is a sweet terrier mix that loves every person he meets, although he would be a little too energetic for small kids. We think children 8 years and older would be a good fit for Myers, who is always ready to match their energy. He is KING of fetch, having the game mastered - and he even knows how to "stay" and wait for you to release him to get his toy. This pup is as smart as they come, and adopting Myers includes a list of fun tricks and quirks! He can sit, stay, place, down, shake, and is constantly learning more tricks to share with his owner. While Myers is not fond of cats, he does well with certain other dogs that can tolerate his energy level. He was previously in foster with an older dog and respected his boundaries.
