I have been a dog groomer for over 16 years. I'm a proud mommy of three kids. Isabela 14, Blaine 13 and Riley 10. And I have three furry kids, a Shih Tzu named Rupert, a Golden Retriever named Claire and an Aussiedoodle named Nubby. I’m very passionate about my work. A metal comb is a must have for any breed that gets a haircut, not just doodles. If you can’t get the metal comb through easily, use a brush and the “line brushing” technique to brush out the tangles and knots. If you are unable to easily brush out and get the comb through the coat, call for an appointment asap. The longer you wait the worse the matting will get.
Bathing without being able to run a comb through the coat will make the tangles and matting worse. Combing and brushing needs to be done before and after every bath.
Any part that gets wet from the grass needs to be combed checked for tangles and should be dried off also. Lots of times we have to shave the entire body just because the legs and feet are matted to the skin.

Make sure you have the right comb and brush for your dog’s coat type and lenght.
Well have come across some metal combs that don’t go through the coat very well. And most brushes sold in stores don’t have bristles long enough. The right tools can make maintenance at home much easier.
