Helllllooooo to all our fellow reptile keepers!

With Memorial weekend coming up we know Summer is here....YEAH!!!!

Helen and I will be hanging close to home as we are excited to be adding a couple of young tail waggers to our family. I'm sure some of you will be meeting them at the reptile shows we will be vending coming up. I hope we can keep up with these young'uns....we had a group of purr babies show up unexpectedly a few weeks ago and its been a cRaZy time! :-)

Just wanted to let everyone know we are now carrying Hornworms....GULP!

We'll have them in fully grown 6 counts, 12 counts in a mix of sizes, and 24 counts that leave our shop as tiny babies so they will last a good long time. Plenty of food is included but if you need more food, or want to alter the standard sizes we ship them in....like you want 24 fully grown Hornworms rather than babies....we aim to please by accommodating your needs.

After all.....our goal is to treat you and your critters like....KINGS!!

Stay safe out there and enjoy the summer!

Mike

Here's a pic of the "gang" that showed up in the severe storms we had a couple of weeks ago. Mom and two of her kids on the left with "Calicoco" arriving the very next day. I think she has a little bit of Windy in her.....they cleaned up pretty good!

Anyone local to St. Louis who wants a 6 month old kitty let us know. :-)

It is with a level of sadness and heartbreak that Helen and I have never experienced before that we tearfully announce the passing of our beloved Windemere. She succumbed to Congestive Heart Failure late Saturday night after our return from vending a reptile show in Bloomington, Illinois. A frantic trip to the VSS emergency veterinarian hospital was fruitless as “Windy” died in the arms of Helen on the way there.

Never in my lifetime have I seen a bond of love so strong between two of God’s angels as I have witnessed between Windemere and Helen. My heart aches so bad for them both. My tears flow as liquid prayers asking that they be blessed with God’s love and grace.

Never have I received more joy and love than I was given by Windemere over the last 14 plus years. In my world fraught with the stress of constantly pushing a boulder up a hill, Windy was my north star. She was the earthly evidence of God’s grace that I could, and did, embrace every single day she was with us. She filled my heart with joy and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to be her “Paw Paw”. I’ll sing to you Windy like I always did, forever and ever……

Please send messages of condolence to Helen’s personal Face Book page, she really needs the love and support right now. Thank you

Helllllooooo St. Louis!

Hope the New Year is treating everyone well so far...... :-)

Rumor has it our temperatures in the region are gonna be dropping pretty low towards the end of the week into the weekend with single digit lows forecasted.

Due to scheduling conflicts, a couple of months ago we stopped our meetups in the Fenton and Imperial areas during the week. Because of the severe cold expected through January we will be offering a pickup service at our shop located in High Ridge, MO.

For any of our loyal customers needing bugs/worms but are concerned about shipping in these temps, we will be available from 12:00 noon until 8:00 pm this coming Saturday, January 13th, and Sunday January 14th if you want to come by our shop and pick up your order.

Our shop is located at 2817 High Ridge Blvd. High Ridge, MO. 63049 It's an old Dentist's office with the previous tenant's sign still on the marquee. We are not open to the public so you will need to note in the "comments" section of our checkout form, what day and time you would like to come out and pick up your bugs. You can also contact us via text, Face Book, and email and let us know.

For those concerned about shipping....here at Royal Roaches we strive to have your feeders arrive alive so your critter has food when they need it and you won't be inconvenienced going out to your local pet store and paying high prices for food. Although other internet bug sellers offer an arrive alive guarantee no matter the temps, what they don't tell you is your bugs will still arrive dead, they'll just replace your order...resulting in no food for your critter and more then likely more dead bugs shipped to you a week later assuming the weather is the same.

When a company advertises a 2~5% annual order replacement as a good thing worth telling folks about.....keep in mind just how many orders that company is shipping out weekly. When they ship 2000-2500 packages a week, we are talking about 200+ packages a month are arriving at someone's door step DEAD! (Yikes!)

At Royal Roaches we believe its better to do it right the first time! For starters...we provide a brand new, 200 pound crush weight box when shipping. We don't use the free boxes provided by USPS because they are thin and are easily damaged resulting in your order never making it to your home. In cold temps we line that new box in silver faced, insulated bubble wrap....the same stuff used in homes to insulate duct work, radiant floor heat, interior walls, and more. If its gonna get really cold we utilize 3/4" foam to line the inside of the box. We of course utilize a high quality UniHeat heat pak to make sure your feeders arrive alive and ready to be eaten!

Although we don't ship out the volume the big boys do, we take pride in each and every package that leaves our facility....we have had a ZERO percentage rate of dead on arrival with all the dubia/superworm shipments we sent out in 2023.....and only one package, just last week unfortunately, that never made it to the customer at all. (seems they entered their address incorrectly)

So, stay warm, stay safe, stay positive for the New Year's outlook...and stay with a company you can trust to provide you with the very best, organically grown, bug and worm feeders your hard earned money can buy!

At Royal Roaches....we treat you and your reptiles....like KINGS!

Mike, Helen, and Windy :-)

11/02/2023

Hello to all the wonderful folks who have supported Royal Roaches all these years. An important cog in the wheel is our secret weapon Windemere. Since we started vending shows in 2010 Windemere has been behind our tables for the vast majority of them.

As a young puppy Windy was given to us by the spouse of a soldier who was being deployed out of the country back in 2010. I'll never forget coming home and seeing Helen holding this beautiful little Dachshund who immediately gave me her signature look...the ol' "side eye" checking me out wondering what's up with this guy. Dachshunds are known to be one owner dogs and I knew right away I had my work cut out for me to win her over seeing as she had obviously already bonded with Helen.

Fortunately for me, given that Windy shared our bed and the couch wasn't so comfortable, the good lord sought fit to give Windy a BIG heart and she found the energy to love us both unconditionally. During the last 14 years the kisses have never ceased, and the bond between all three of us have grown as we have shared our daily lives together. Including participating as vendors at so many reptile and exotic shows over that time. We are a team and have traveled so far together.....literally and figuratively.

Several months ago we learned that Windy's heart had enlarged, an already huge heart full of love had physically grown inside her body. She was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Disease (MVD) which is a heart condition that affects small to medium sized dogs as they age. The mitral valve undergoes degenerative changes such as thickening. These changes prevent the valve from closing properly which causes the valve to leak. There is no cure, just expensive medications to support the heart function and sustain a healthy quality of life prior to the onset of Congestive Heart Failure. (CHF)

Over the years we've helped all of our fur and purr babies through hospice or palliative care before helping them over the Rainbow Bridge. It's a very difficult process wherein we believe that quality of life is the most important factor to consider. We monitor their health through regular checkups, and we monitor their quality of life by spending time with them and looking for signs they share with us to gage their well being. Along with a big heart the Good Lord has blessed Windy with a zest for living.....a "joie de vivre" if you will.

We received news last week that a growth on one of Windy's mammary glands was cancerous.....breast cancer would be the human equivalent. Given that her spirit is full of life we have decided to have her undergo surgery to remove the tumor, and to acquire biopsies from other smaller lumps on her body and have them sent off for pathology tests. This will be a very difficult operation for Windy given the nature of her enlarged heart diagnosis. The prognosis at this time is positive but guarded.

Windemere is going in for a serious operation tomorrow morning and we are asking for your support, primarily through prayers, words of encouragement, and of course positive vibes!

As you might imagine the costs for an operation, pathology/oncology support, medications, and potential for future needed treatments, are very expensive. We will be posting items for sale on our website for the next week or so at special "Support Windemere" pricing. We will also be creating a GoFund Me campaign for anyone who wants to support Windy's care without purchasing one of our special items.

The revenue generated from these sales will go directly towards Windy's care. We will provide regular updates on how she is doing both on our website and our Face Book page. Any funds generated over and above the actual costs of her care will be donated to the Open Door Animal Sanctuary, a no-kill shelter located in House Springs, Missouri.

We want to thank the staff at the Creve Coeur Animal Hospital, and specifically Dr. Claire Ronnie, for the love and professionalism they have showed Windy, Helen, and I since we walked in their doors looking for help earlier this year. We feel blessed to have Windy in your care.

Helllllloooooo Nashville!

Here at Royal Roaches Helen and I, along with our trusted security dog Windy, are so happy to be vending the Nashville Exotic Pet Expo once again! Although we enjoyed y'alls southern hospitality this past April there's no place Helen and I enjoy more then October in Tennessee!

We sure have missed all the great friends we’ve made over the years when we lived in Clarksville, TN. and began vending the best show in the country back when the Fairgrounds was a little less of a showcase then it is today. (can’t say I miss the pea green and yellow walls 😊)

Well, what makes it the best….is it all the great reptiles, birds, and exotic mammals ? Is it all the wonderful attendees who come out in droves to support a great non-profit club show ? Is it all the amazing vendors who bring the very best critters, supplies, and innovations the community has to offer ? An argument could be made for all of the above. But for my money what makes this the best show ever is all the hardworking people who continue the great Tennessee tradition which created it’s nickname as the Volunteer State!

Thank you to everyone of the volunteers who make this show possible, and all their hard work throughout the year generating funds in support of so many great causes. And a special shout out to Debbie who has directly helped so many people over the years....rumor has it this will be the "Winey Web Witch" last show as a volunteer helping to make it all happen. :-(

We of course will be bringing our usual assortment of organically fed, pesticide free, Dubia roaches and Superworms….remember, what you feed your bugs is what you feed your critters! Tagging along will be some exotics like Domino and Question Mark roaches…cool “display” insects you’re gonna be the envy of all your bug loving friends with a tank full of these guys. The Hissers are coming with us, don’t pass up those Halloweens as they are beeeeaaauuuutiful!

New for us this show is we are now offering Hornworms. Freshly packed by the good folks at the . Louis Worm Factory you're not going to find a healthier and juicier feeder that your critter is gonna love...they're packed full of nutrition and calcium too! We're also bring some Fruit Flies for all you Dart Frog lovers or anyone needing a fresh source of a small feeder that will keep generating food for several weeks!

We’re bringing our premium, all organic roach chow fit for a King! We dehydrate our own organic fruits and veggies made just for breeding colonies. We’ll also have Buffalo Beetles for use as a cleanup crew (CUC) and Black Soldier Fly Larvae for all those calcium loving critters.

I can’t forget we’ll be bringing the very collectible, and no longer in production…..Dangomushi!!! (that’s “Roly Poly”…aka…Isopods in Japanese) Lots of other cool reptile and insect related collectibles too….including some fantastic crested geckos with awesome details giving the real thing a run for their money.

And speaking of crested geckos, our sister site Great Gatsby Geckos will be bringing some fine looking examples bred right here in our facility from well known and respected bloodlines. We’ll have something for everyone at a price that will make your wallet/purse and your spouse smile!

So come out and see us at the best show in the country…bring the kids as it doesn’t get any more family orientated then at the Nashville Exotic Pet Expo October 7th and 8th at the recently constructed/renovated Fairgrounds in beautiful Nashville, Tennessee…aka….Music City!

Cya soon!

Howdy “Roach Wranglers” !

Spring is in the air which means the grass needs cutting, the flowers are blooming, and the “honey dew” list is growing too!

We want to help ya’ll out by providing a Dubia roach colony “kit” that will help stop your growing critter feed bill from getting bigger in the future!

You work hard for your money….isn’t it time your money started working for you ?!?! For a reasonable investment your money can start paying you and your critters some serious dividends by not only providing your critter with the healthiest and most robust roach feeders available, but saving you some serious $$$$ !!!

And hey, what good is the savings if you then have to spend your valuable time putting together a roach colony….shouldn’t your summer be filled with fun rather then more work ?

Of course it should…..and that’s where our ready made colony kits can help you save money, time, and aggravation! If you are local to the St.Louis area and want to pick up one of these work horses for your critter, then let your fingers do the walking right on down to our website and get yourself one.

You are gonna get 65 adult females and 25 males, all freshly molted right out of our subadult bins so you know your gonna get the entire reproduction output of those lovely ladies and handsome dudes over the course of the next 12 months.

They will be provided in a 7.5 gallon sterilite bin, perfect for up to 100 females as these “snuggle bugs” love the security of being in a crowd. But things can get a little too humid in a crowded bin which is why a vented lid is so important….and we gotcha covered there!

We’re gonna fill that nice bin not only with robust adults but you’re gonna get the egg flats, water gel n chow bowls, plus a Clean Up Crew (CUC) to help keep things nice and fresh.

And what good is a great “love shack” without some romance inducing chow….hmmmm, chow doesn’t sound too romantic….how ‘bout….without some aphrodisiac like our premium “love” Hors D’oeuvres! (sounds better)

That’s right folks! Your adult breeders don’t need no protein….these love birds need carbohydrates (sugars) to create the largest broods and raise those pheromone levels of the guys, which drive the ladies crazy!

That’s why we include a pound of our all organic, fit for human consumption, premium chow loaded with carbs normally…..but we even boost those carbs even higher with the addition of organic fruits and veggies purchased from a local Amish market and dehydrated right here in our facility!

Keep in mind many chows out there made from livestock n poultry feed has a patented pesticide like DL Methionine and Diatomaceous Earth in their ingredient lists….sprayed on stored grain to keep out pests and/or purposely put in there to help poultry grow faster….not good ‘cause as we always say….what you feed your bugs is what you feed your critters!

Your also gonna get an ounce of large grain water crystals which will make a gallon of water gel and keep your bugs hydrated. Don’t forget to use Springwater from a store if your tap water is full of chemicals….we catch rainwater in large barrels!

So….that leaves one thing for you to do….quite possible the most important thing to become a successful roach wrangler. Find a spot to place this kit in your home that can maintain a temp of 86 degrees….not 90+ as that can kill babies….not temps in the 70s which will limit reproduction…..86 degrees!

Buy yourself one of those cheap infrared temperature guns and monitor those temps until you can find that sweet spot where your new love shack can rock n roll without being bothered!

I know a guy who achieved 86 degrees by putting it on his cable box, another with a cheap heating pad, (avoid the 2 hour automatic shut off ones) and yet another put their bin over their beardie tank which generated all the heat needed through the heat bulbs used to heat the tank.

Monitor those temps, feed your new adults fresh fruits n veggies, (organic is best) leave those breeders alone to do what they do….and after 45-60 days pull everything out, shake all them bugs out into another tub, put the adults and babies back into the “breeder” bin….unless you need the babies to feed other critter babies….and feed your critters out of that 2nd tub you provide in the future. You’ll have our breeder tub, and your “feeder” tub which you can get into daily without the worry that you are disrupting the love shack…..

We are always here to answer questions, if ya need more of that great chow of ours, or ya need feeder bugs while your new colony gets cranked up….just go visit our website where will be able to meet your needs!

Thanks everyone!

Don’t forget to visit a reptile show in your neck of the woods. Lots of hardworking local vendors could use your support!

THANK YOU! Nashville, Tennessee!!!!!

What a fantastic reptile, birds, and exotic show the awesome folks involved with the Nashville Exotic Pet Expo put on this past weekend. Oh my goodness....it is so hard to put into words how this show represents the VERY BEST that our community of reptile and exotic breeders/enthusiasts has to offer. At a time when so much of our industry is profit motivated, this group of outstanding VOLUNTEERS know how to throw a party! Let me tell ya folks....Southern Hospitality is alive and well down in "Music City"! 🙂

Being a part of this show for many years now reminds me why Helen and I fell in love with this community when we started breeding bearded dragons back in 2010. Smiling faces, unbelievable enthusiasm, and an inspiring exchange of information...and that's just coming from the kids in the crowd! Holy smokes...talk about getting re-energized and inspired to continue being a part of this great hobby of ours.....I haven't been able to wipe the smile off of my face since we got home around 2:00 am Monday morning.

We just want to thank all the volunteers that make this show special.....these folks don't get paid a dime and it's their smiles and enthusiasm that is so very contagious. We want to thank all the great vendors who took the time to talk with so many people who were just being introduced to reptiles, or birds, or all the amazing exotic mammals. I honestly don't think I seen any vendor twiddling their thumbs or have their nose in their phone for long periods of time throughout the entire 2 day show....their smiles at the end of the show told the entire story. And lets not forget the most important people of all without whom this show would not be the crown jewel that it is....all the attendees who came from quite possibly all 50 states to be a part of this show. We were totally amazed at all the different license plates in the parking area, vendors, attendees.....the word is out...springtime in Nashville is the place to be if you want to see the very best our community has to offer!

Now I know we get to do this all over again in October.....but I got tell ya...being one of the last folks to pack up and leave we were feeling a little melancholy. From a packed house to an empty, albeit beautiful facility, made me think of a favorite song of mine.... appropriate I think given what we just enjoyed over 2 days in a city known for great music....take us home Jackson Browne!

Thanks again Nashville! CYA soon.....

Mike n Helen n Windy 🙂

Helllllloooooo Nashville!

Here Royal Roaches Helen and I, along with our trusted security dog Windy, are so happy to be vending the Nashville Exotic Pet Expo once again! After the looooong Covid shutdown, and the unfortunate circumstances of last October ‘causing the show to be cancelled and breaking all of our hearts, it seems like forever since we visited the Fairgrounds for a show.

We have missed all the great friends we’ve made over the years when we lived in Clarksville, TN. and began vending the best show in the country back when the Fairgrounds was a little less of a showcase then it is today. (can’t say I miss the pea green and yellow walls 😊)

We of course will be bringing our usual assortment of organically fed, pesticide free, Dubia roaches and Superworms….remember, what you feed your bugs is what you feed your critters! We’ll also have our big feeders the Orangehead and Ivoryhead roaches available for those larger appetites. The big boys…aka…Giant Peppered roaches will be there as well as some Gyna species from Africa.

Aye mate….lest I forget we’re also bringing some “Red Goblins” from down under in the land of Australia….not to be confused with the invasive Red Runners, these guys are great for Tarantulas as they don’t burrow!

New for us this year is we are now offering Silkworms. Kept in a pod similar to Hornworms they feed exclusively on Mulberry leaves. Packed full of nutrition and calcium, we think you and your critters are gonna love ‘em. We’re bringing our premium, all organic roach chow fit for a King! We dehydrate our own organic fruits and veggies made just for those breeding colonies.

Speaking of colonies….we’re pleased to be bringing back our complete colony “kit” featuring fresh female and male adults, premium chow, vented tub, care sheet, and more! Dubia, Orangeheads, and Ivoryheads….we’ve got just what you need if you want to save some money and start growing your own feeders. We’ll also have Buffalo Beetles for use as a cleanup crew (CUC) and Black Soldier Fly Larvae for all those calcium loving critters.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Helen n I would like to reach out to all of our friends and customers and say thank you for your support in 2022 !

We had a few changes this year…..not least of which was moving into a new shop. It’s amazing how we ever survived, much less thrived, without a proper space to conduct all the necessary parts of operating a business.

As the year winds down we wanted to recognize the “team” behind the scenes that makes what we do possible. Brody n Windy, the dynamic duo!

Windy gets the thankless job of running our security detail at all the reptile shows we attend. Hour after hour of relentless attention to detail, barking out orders like an army general, offering up icy stares to any would be thief…..all this for scraps.

And our beloved Brody, affectionately referred to as the “gobbler”….his was the high risk responsibility of official taster and dietician. Whether it was a new recipe for chow, or making sure the fuel we were putting into our own bodies was of the highest quality to propel us through our busy workday….Brody insisted he have a taste of everything that was on our plate! A thankless job to be sure he never once asked for a raise…..although we offered him peanuts as an hourly wage….he refused to take them.

It’s with great sadness that we had to say goodbye to Brody this past September. 18 years on the job, 12+ of them with us after being “rescued” from the s*x trafficking trade where he was literally abused as a stud in a “mill”…..my Best Buddy Brody….triple B…..I miss you terribly.

And Windy, she just turned 14….or as she often reminds me when I complain about her sleeping on the job….that’s actually 91 years old, what do you expect from an old lady! She also wants a raise and better benefits….watcha gonna do ?….labor holds all the leverage in this post Covid era.

So be sure and give all of your four legged Santa’s helpers a big hug during this busy time of year….after all, they bring us “good tidings and Yuletide cheer” throughout the year!

Thank you everyone!

We appreciate you!

Mike, Helen, Windy, and our beloved Brody, plus a few “purr babies” and lots of lizards!
