The Highland Village Animal Shelter houses any lost, released, or abandoned animals for the city. We strive to maintain a low-kill shelter. We are dedicated to the welfare of animals and proud to service the community of Highland Village. The relationship in our community is very important to us and the animals entrusted into our care are our number one priority. Some of the services we offer are

adoption & fundraising events, community education, & free wildlife trap rentals. We pride ourselves on setting the example for animal welfare and services.

***FOUND ANIMAL***

This little girl was found in Brazos Park yesterday afternoon and turned into the shelter. If she is your pup, or you know who she belongs to, please call Wes at 469-444-0915.

We have some very exciting news to share with everyone!!! Over the last several weeks we have had a few projects completed in our dog play yard and the project just wrapped up this afternoon! A 3ft fence was installed to provide a small barrier when meeting dogs that don't always have the best manners. This helps prevent visitors from being jumped on, and visitors with small children can still interact without getting bumped into or knocked over. A 400 sq. ft. sun shade was installed to provide some much-needed relief from the Texas sun, and the yard was replaced with artificial turf! This will be easier to maintain and clean, and can be sanitized when needed!

We had a very interesting call today! We got called to the YMCA camp on the lake for an unknown animal stuck in one of the restroom facilities. When Wes arrived to assess the situation he located a river otter! You heard that right, a RIVER OTTER! After a quick consult with a Denton County Game Warden, the animal was gently restrained and returned to the lake for release.

River otters are a native Texas species but are uncommon in this area of Texas. They are also shy and tend to avoid humans so they are often not seen.

This doodle couple is ready for their furever home after a spa day at Happy Dog Spa. These two bonded pups came to us matted and in need of some TLC. They are now groomed, vetted, vaccinated, and ready to enjoy a home of their own. Adopt together or separate but the goal would be to keep them together and enjoy the puppy energy from Clyde and the laid back demeanor from Bonnie! ❤️ 🐶 ❤️

***UPDATE*** Thank you to everyone who shared and to those who may have come out! Church and Zola both got adopted!!!

ATTENTION ALL FRIENDS OF THE HIGHLAND VILLAGE ANIMAL SHELTER!!!! We will be participating in an adoption event on Saturday, August 24th, at the Petco on 380 in Denton. Pet of the Week - Wyatt

Well howdy, my name is Wyatt. Let me tell you a little about me. I'm vaccinated and microchipped already. I'm a 3 year old cattle dog mix that weighs about 30 pounds. Yes, I am indeed neutered. So what do you say? Come out to my kennel and visit me, I guarantee I will win you over.

Otis came to us as a stray and he is still a young dog at around one or two years old. Our adoptions are currently free of charge. If you want to meet Otis, please give us a call at 469-444-0915. So Dewey isn't with us at the adoption today but this video just exhibits a little of his fun personality. He's so cute even after being in the shelter since February. And he has been neutered now as well! Come and take him home to see his "please take me for a walk!" dance!

So we have had some duck eggs under a make-shift incubator for several days after their mom was injured beyond assistance. We were pleasantly surprised this week when the majority of them successfully hatched and produced these cute little kiddos. They have since been passed along to rehab and be released back into the wild as soon as they are old enough. =)
