It is with a heavy heart that we have some sad news to share with everyone. Buttercup went in yesterday morning to be spayed due to a suspected pyometra at our veterinarian's recommendation and unfortunately, crossed the rainbow bridge on the surgery table. Medical staff determinedly attempted lifesaving procedures including CPR but Buttercup never woke up. We are immensely grateful to everyone who shared her story and worked so hard to help her find a forever home. Buttercup was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.

Please take a moment to hug your pets or loved ones a little tighter today, as life is precious, and moments like this remind us how important it is to cherish every one of them.

We still have these amazing pups up for adoption, and some may be very familiar faces at this point. If you are looking for a new family member, or know a rescue that could help, please call Wes at 469-444-0915.

***UPDATE*** On December 18th, Buttercup crossed over the rainbow bridge. Please see our most recent post for details.

We have a new pup, and her name is Buttercup! She came to the shelter as a stray dog approximately 2 weeks ago and no one had come forward to claim her.

She is an older pup, we are estimating around 8 years old, and she has had a rough life. Her teeth are in terrible shape, she has severe vision impairment, she was used for breeding, and she is heartworm positive. But she doesn't let that slow her down! She is incredibly sweet and absolutely loves everyone she meets! Someone please come meet her and give her a chance, you won't regret it!

We have some very exciting news to share with everyone!!! Over the last several weeks we have had a few projects completed in our dog play yard and the project just wrapped up this afternoon! A 3ft fence was installed to provide a small barrier when meeting dogs that don't always have the best manners. This helps prevent visitors from being jumped on, and visitors with small children can still interact without getting bumped into or knocked over. A 400 sq. ft. sun shade was installed to provide some much-needed relief from the Texas sun, and the yard was replaced with artificial turf! This will be easier to maintain and clean, and can be sanitized when needed!

Please let us know what you think of these upgrades and feel free to stop by anytime during business hours to see the improvements!

We had a very interesting call today! We got called to the YMCA camp on the lake for an unknown animal stuck in one of the restroom facilities. When Wes arrived to assess the situation he located a river otter! You heard that right, a RIVER OTTER! After a quick consult with a Denton County Game Warden, the animal was gently restrained and returned to the lake for release.

River otters are a native Texas species but are uncommon in this area of Texas. They are also shy and tend to avoid humans so they are often not seen.

***ADOPTED***

This doodle couple is ready for their furever home after a spa day at Happy Dog Spa. These two bonded pups came to us matted and in need of some TLC. They are now groomed, vetted, vaccinated, and ready to enjoy a home of their own. Adopt together or separate but the goal would be to keep them together and enjoy the puppy energy from Clyde and the laid back demeanor from Bonnie! ❤️ 🐶 ❤️

They are waiting at the Highland Village Animal Shelter with great anticipation so please contact our Animal Care Officer, Wes Fiddes at 469-444-0915 if you think you are the right match for our couple! https://tx-highlandvillage.civicplus.com/795/Adopt-a-Shelter-Pet
