Part 2 - boarding training with Winnie #dogtraining
Day 1 of boarding training with Winnie! #dogtraining
These kids are not great at controlling their impulses. While I don’t subscribe to the thinking that you should be first out the door to be their “pack leader”, I do believe waiting at doors is a great way to practice impulse control! This is one of the first times we have tried it. Stay tuned for progress!
Tayo learning to come even when he’s busy :)
I love to use an implied stay. That means when I say sent it means to sit and stay there until I say otherwise. Returning to your dog really helps with their patience because they know you will be right back. This is better than walking really far away and recalling your dog out of a stay.
Getting a pup cup was difficult today ❄️
Putting it all together(doorbell, place, person entering). Tomorrow is graduation! Good job Gunther!
Gunther is starting a relaxation protocol. This is based on Susan Clothiers RRR Relaxation Protocol. You can see that Gunther is in a down but not relaxed. I’ll be looking for him to actually relax while doing this. Relaxation exercises are a great way to teach your dog how to actually calm down. I use this along with on/off switch exercises to help dogs control their arousal levels better. Here is what a session looks like:
I think we are friends now!!!
Ball pit for Boomer. He approves.
A couple months ago Piper would have lost her marbles in this situation. She was highly reactive to people, dogs, and cars. This is her doing level 2 engage disengage (with clicker) on a man walking by. 😍
I love using the ball pit for confidence building! Little Willow was unsure about it at first but now she’s in love! 😍
Willy Wildebeest (I renamed her)
Recall out of the open space where rabbits reside = extra fun playtime
