I try to post this every once and awhile. Please read if you have a puppy

This is something everyone should see. This xray is of a 2 week old puppy.

When you get your 8/10 week old puppies, please keep this image in mind. Their bones do not even touch yet. They plod around so cutely with big floppy paws and wobbly movement because their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, ligaments with skin covering. Nothing is fitting tightly together or has a true socket yet.

When you run them excessively or don't restrict their exercise to stop them from overdoing it during this period you don't give them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited bouncing run causes impacts between the bones. In reasonable amounts this is not problematic and is the normal wear and tear that every animal will engage in.

But when you're letting puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, take them for long walks/hikes, you are damaging that forming joint. When you let the puppy scramble on tile with no traction you are damaging the joint.

You only get the chance to grow them once. A well built body is something that comes from excellent breeding and a great upbringing-BOTH, not just one.

Once grown - around 12-18 months depending on their breed, you will have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in higher impact exercise. So keep it calm while they're still little baby puppies and give the gift that can only be given once.

Puppy and Dog owners. My 7 year old Golden is my very willing Demo again. Porter gets to play this game quite often. Try to feed your puppy/dog in more creative ways. This is Porter showing "Search" Take your dogs kibble and spread it all over your deck/back yard (Any where you would like). If it is a new game to them tell them "search" and help them find the kibble in the beginning. As you can see I just say search and he runs out to find what he is to search for.

NEW PUPPY OWNERS: My 7 year old Golden is my Demo for the day. New puppy owners keep your pups busy. I use his food to fill up the West Paw Toppl(yes it is spelled right) or a Kong made in Colorado. We need to keep our puppies busy or they are going to get bored and be up to "No Good". Well at least no good to humans right? Chewing our shoes, couches, or children, they think that is all really fun. Humans don't! I measure their food out the night before and stuff all my interactive Kongs, Toppl and then this is how he gets his breakfast. To stuff, I use kibble/and canned food just enough to bind it so it will stay in. After a few days once they like the game of getting the food out then I freeze them. This can take 20-30 min. of pure fun for puppies. This can even help with the puppy nipping and boredom.

Synthetic aromas are largely made up of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which float through the air, are inhaled, and then enter the bloodstream. These highly popular aromatic liquids are actually chemicals, including benzene, lactones and aldehydes, all of which have been linked to cancer, birth defects, central nervous system disorders, neurological disorders, and/or allergic reactions, including eye, skin and respiratory symptoms.

🐾 Our animals often spend their days stuck inside our homes, unable to get away from these airborne pollutants; if your goal is to remove damaging chemicals from your family’s living environment, the first place to start is by unplugging plug-ins. To learn more about cleaning up your home to improve your furry family’s health, check out our new book The Forever Dog. Available at: www.foreverdog.com

Just don't

This hazardous chewy toy is a by-product of the leather industry, not the food industry (which is why most are labelled as non-edible and/or dangerous if swallowed). The chemicals it takes to make this unsafe chew, from start to finish, is staggering!

Want to learn more about the safe treats that will nourish your pet without the list of chemicals, check the out the #1 The New York Times bestseller The Forever Dog book - https://foreverdog.com

So true.

So true.

THIS IS A PSA

Puppies bite. They bite a lot. They bite hard. Their teeth are sharp. You might bleed. It might seem relentless.

Scaring the pants off them by yelling, pinning, shoving or shouting will not only do precisely zero, it will potentially create a fearful adult dog.

Puppies bite more when;
They are tired
They are hungry
They are bored
They are overstimulated
They are teething

Read that again. They bite MORE when they are the above. They will also bite when they are absolutely fine. They are dogs not dolls.

Be compassionate not scary. They will grow out of it but only if you teach them a good alternative. Trade for toys. Use a pen or a crate. Teach calmness. Reward gentle interactions. Grit your own teeth and ride it out while reinforcing good stuff and proactively managing bad stuff.

Be proactive when you know biting happens like after some play, when excitement goes up, when they are overtired (7-9pm witching hour anyone?) and give them a good chew or help them settle, or channel that energy into some training.

It does get better basically. Don’t panic. Most puppy biting isn’t aggression. Be CONSISTENT and PROACTIVE and expect more than a few bites along the way.

Aalto the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (aka the ginger shark)

Good Day, Friends,

Although fireworks are fun for us humans, they can be a bit scary for wildlife and our furry, feathered, and scaled Friends. Be sure to keep your companion animals inside and give them lots of love this weekend to help keep them calm as America celebrates its birthday.

When I am not dog training I am out taking pictures of dogs, wildlife and landscape. These are the cutest animals and they act like dogs. My friend took the pics. I think I need to move to the country to get a Highland Cow.
