We’re celebrating a big milestone as Columbus Humane’s Community Cat Initiative wraps up for 2025! This year, 1,863 community cats were spayed or neutered, ear-tipped, and vaccinated for rabies through this program!
We extend our heartfelt thanks to The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine students, who, under the supervision of our veterinarians, perform these spay and neuter surgeries as part of their shelter medicine rotation. Their skill, compassion, and dedication are essential to making this program possible.
We are also deeply grateful to our community for your continued advocacy for cats. Your support saves lives, stops the breeding cycle, and improves the overall well-being of community cats. Programs like CCI are vital to creating healthier outcomes for both cats and the neighborhoods we share.
For those who may be new to the term, community cats are unowned cats who live outdoors. They may be feral or stray and are often found living in colonies that share a food source and territory. While all cats are domestic cats, community cats are typically unsocialized and fearful of people. Humane programs like CCI help stabilize these colonies and prevent future litters.
We’re proud of what we accomplished together in 2025 and look forward to continuing this important work. The CCI program will resume on January 9, 2026.
