The winners of the 2020 Birdlife Australia Photography Awards are in!
This intriguing portrait entitled ‘Southern Cassowary’ by Jun Matsui won this year's Bird Portrait Category.
“She was quietly standing on the road side, which was a nice surprise to me," Jun writes. "She did some preening and eventually disappeared into the forest. Even not showing her face, she's beautiful.”
Jun took this photo in Palmerston, QLD.
Congratulations to Jun, all of the prize winners and shortlisted entrants and BirdLife Photography Australia – the calibre of photos was once again outstanding and the awards continue to go from strength to strength! The number of entries was also phenomenal – from 4,100 entries in 2019 to 6,200 in 2020!
A huge thanks to our panel of judges who volunteered their time and expertise for this event – they did not have an easy task! Ian Wilson, Sabine Meyer, Ofer Levy, Moose Peterson, Andy Rouse and David Stowe – THANK YOU!
The 2020 BirdLife Australia Photography Awards were proudly sponsored by Nikon Australia and Lake Cowal Foundation.
We will be profiling the winners of each category all this week. But in the meantime, check out https://bit.ly/3jZPINx
