Called to work with one dog, ended up focusing on the other.
Very often I am asked to help with one dog in the house and after the first session we realize that the root of the issue lies with a different member of the family.
Relationships are complex, and multi-dog households are not always as straightforward as they seem.

I am a huge fan of cat friendly shelving. Often dogs chase cats just for the thrill, not necessarily to catch them or hurt them. Your cat shouldn't have to live their life under a bed or in a different floor of the house. They should be able to feel safe in their own home as well as anyone else.
Providing cats with a vertical space where they can move away from the dog will help ease the tension

Dogs are individuals.
My clients will often hear me say there are hundreds different tools and techniques because there are hundreds of different dogs.
Lots of dogs respond to treats and praise, some dogs respond better to other tools, like training collars, or remote callers.

In the case of Willa, my Puplandia Dog Rescue foster, when she first came to the rescue she could not get a pat on the head or so much as a single food treat without losing her ever loving mind. The excitement was overwhelming and overpowering. She had no self-control.
My good friend Melina McNanny took her in for a board and train, and she came back better, but would still lose control of herself if the humans around her did not uphold strict boundaries.
Since coming to foster with me we have found that using the remote collar helps the humans hold those boundaries quicker and more clearly, allowing Willa to join on more family time, adventures, and engagement. She now can handle pets, cuddles and a treat as praise without jumping and losing control.

In her case, the collar has given the humans in Willa's life better clarification for their boundaries, and indirectly more freedom and inclusion for Willa.

We brought home our newest family member on Sunday.
You won't see baby and dog cuddling pictures on this page, as I keep my dogs a minimum of 3 feet from my babies for the first 8 weeks.
Creating caution and boundaries around children is always my first step to introducing pets and babies.

My friend made me laugh today as she accurately described the length of a pregnancy! 😝 Feels like right about 11 months for sure!
Today was my last day of private sessions. Pack Walks will continue and are scheduled out for the coming months. Boarding also remains open for current and past clients, although there are limitations to space available, so it's always best to book a spot ahead of time as soon as you know dates! ..
And an answer to the question asked:
Hide and seek is a great game to teach her! You could teach her to find your kids, or your phone, or anything else you lose often to make it practical, or you can play just for fun. This is a great article to read if you're interested in getting started with nose work at home.
