Throwback Friday from 5 years ago….Has our community improved (???)

A message from “George” to all Paw Pals volunteers & supporters...”please allow me to say thank you for saving me. During the week of record breaking cold, I was abandoned. After being frightened and cold, I was taken to Paw Pals where I found ‘shelter’ with love and warmth. I was even provided preventative veterinary care to combat deadly viruses and parasites (puppy vaccinations & deworming) that many neglected puppies needlessly succumb to. Because of your caring volunteerism, I went from ‘unwanted’ to ‘loved’. Last week I joined my new family that included a 12 year old girl. The young girl had tears of joy as she took me from my travel crate. The sweet irony of my story is that just a week ago I was a shivering, frightened and ‘unwanted’ puppy. Now, because of YOU, I have my precious life and will reward my new family with unconditional love. THANKS for all you do...I realize much of your volunteer work goes ‘unsung’ but please know that your labor extends to many”. Love, “George”

HILCO Electric Trust recently awarded Paw Pals $3,350 towards the purchase of a surgical table to support TCAP’s monthly Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic. This award is from HILCO’s Operation Round Up Program. This voluntary program is where electric bills are “rounded up” to the nearest dollar and then donated to local charitable organizations. Interestingly, if one’s bill is $67.43 the bill would be $68.00. One would never give more than 99 cents a month. This doesn’t sound like a large amount of money but with everyone participating, the amount becomes a treasure for organizations that need supplies and equipment. Paw Pals sends thank you to HILCO and Operation Round Up participants. What about me? I represent thousands who are abandoned and then die from a horrible death (majority of abandoned dogs and cats do not survive). Do you believe dogs have souls? Most dog lovers believe their pets have souls. Many feel once a dog bonds to a human, its soul attaches to the human’s soul and upon death, goes where the human soul goes. Interviews with people who have had a Near Death Experience (NDE) say they were greeted by their beloved pets who previously passed. So, what about me and the millions before me that were abandoned as puppies and never given a chance to bond with a human. Wouldn’t it be better to prevent unwanted litters by spay or neutering your pet? What about me?

Did you know “skin” is the largest organ in an animal’s body? Imagine having this nerve filled organ covered with scabs and agitating, painful infections 24/7. Well, this was “Poppy’s” dilemma. She came to us needing professional veterinary care. She was suffering from severe skin infections caused by fleas. Flea allergy dermatitis is an itchy skin disease of dogs and cats. Essentially, affected animals develop allergic reactions to chemicals in flea saliva which is injected when the flea feeds. Symptoms include redness, pus-filled bumps, crusty scabs and hair loss. The dog or cat will constantly itch the effective site leading to self-trauma (open infections). “Poppy” is now on the road to recovery. We cannot save the world but we did save “Poppy’s” world. Thank you for your love of animals and support.

TCAP Low Cost Vaccination Cinic at Paw Pals on TUESDAY, January 7th. 10am-12pm. (1500 S. Abbott Ave…next to TXDOT). Yep! $5 rabies vaccinations. Along with vaccinations, TCAPheartworm testing and other services begin at 10:00am and end at noon.
Spay/neuter surgeries need an appointment and can be booked by calling 940-566-5551.

Did you know without our community Paw Pals, a 100% volunteer oganization, would fail (in fact, 90% of animal shelters do fail)? A comment was recently made that Paw Pals doesn’t answer calls (in fact, all calls are answered if a message is made). Did you know Paw Pals does not have a phone inside their facility? Why? Because we don’t have a full-time receptionist at our facility. When one dials Paw Pals, it’s actually a HOME-phone that’s 4 miles away. All calls are worked by a VOLUNTEER who prioritizes dozens of daily calls from people wanting information or help while managing a busy family/home/ranch-life. The best calls are from people that offer help to solve their existing challenge. Remember, Paw Pals performs its mission with 100% VOLUNTEERS from our community. When YOU call, keep in mind that YOU are the community. Together we can help dogs and cats in need. So, please consider becoming part of our 100% VOLUNTEER organization!! Our community needs YOU to help dogs & cats in need♥️
