Dear Valued Clients, We want to address the recent and circulating news about the canine respiratory illness. We understand that this may cause concern, but we want to assure you that we are well-informed and taking it seriously without causing unnecessary panic. As the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) suggests, "we advise caution rather than worry."

At Cute Cuts, we have implemented several measures to create the safest possible environment for both your pets and ours. However, we understand that each person's comfort level and their pet's health condition may differ. Therefore, we encourage you to conduct your own research and make decisions that are best for you and your family. Rest assured, we fully support your choices. To gather more local information, we recommend consulting the OVMA, which has proven to be a valuable resource.

Regarding our own actions, we have been aware of this for a while now and have established a written procedure and response plan. The illness itself is not new with reported cases since 2022. Our staff members have been trained accordingly on our new processes. Here are some of the steps and precautions we already have in place:

1. Pre-screening:

- Prior to entering our shop, we send a text/email to owners asking if their dogs are exhibiting any signs of illness.

- Owners are given the option to cancel or reschedule appointments without any penalty, even on the day of the appointment.

2. Enhanced cleaning protocols:

- We have switched to a cleaning product specifically designed for pet illnesses and environments.

- Our cleaning procedure includes the necessary dwell time for the product to effectively kill viruses and germs (an often overlooked step).

- Kennels are cleaned between each use.

- Floors are mopped and disinfected daily.

3. Minimizing exposure:

- We minimize nose-to-nose interactions between pets.

- Our facility operates with scheduled start appointment times to minimize kennel time. Additionally, we will now notify you 15 minutes prior to the end of your appointment so that you can promptly pick up your pet, further minimizing their time in a kennel and the salon.

- Barriers have been installed between floor kennels to reduce dog-to-dog contact.

- All shared toys and water bowls have been removed.

4. Senior Pets and Pets with Pre-Existing Health Conditions:

- On our usual closed days (Sunday and Monday), we have added a limited grooming schedule, reserved for returning/existing clients and that are by appointment only. This results in the pets typically having the shop to themselves with only 1 or 2 pets in the building at a time. This greatly increases the ability to keep pets a great deal of distance away from each other.

- We have also introduced 7 am appointment slots on Tuesday to Friday. During this time (7-8 am), your pet will be the only one in the facility.

- If your dog requires additional care, please feel free to call us at 503-640-8300 and ask to speak with one of our supervisors. We will make every effort to ensure your pet's health and well-being.

Please note that these precautions are not exhaustive, but we want you to know that we are serious about your pets' safety and have implemented appropriate measures.
