AKC Rally Seminar
AKC Rally Seminar on Sunday, May 26th from 10am to 4pm taught by Paula
Thomason. This seminar is open to anyone who has begun taking classes in Rally or
is currently competing at any level of AKC Rally.
We will be covering the following:
● Understanding the signs and how points are lost
● How judges score differently for the same errors
● Feeling confident in the ring and building confidence in your dog
● What muscle memory is and why it’s important for you and your dog
● How to focus on your dog while remembering the course and signs
● Key cues your dog needs to know
● When to support your dog in the ring and how too much support can
add negative pressure to your dog
● Work on any exercises that you find difficult to perform
● Plus, whatever you can come up with that needs to be addressed

AKC Agility Course Tests 1 & 2
September 17th – Durham Kennel Club

The Durham Kennel Club Agility Committee is excited to offer ACT1 and ACT2 tests on Sunday, Sept. 17.

Dogs have the opportunity to earn four titles – ACT1, ACT1J, ACT2 and ACT2J!

Start time will be 10 am with the briefing and walk-thru for the first class (ACT1). Check-in will begin at 9:30 am.

The ACT program is for dogs that have not yet titled in AKC Agility. It is open to dogs 15 months and older, and dogs may jump any of the AKC jump heights: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20 or 24.

DKC will offer two rounds of each level: ACT1, ACT1J, ACT2 and ACT2J. It takes two legs to earn a title in each class. (see more information on requirements at the end of this article).

Dogs do not have to be registered with AKC to participate; their performance will be recorded by AKC under a temporary recording number.

Deadline is 6 pm Friday, Sept. 15, to submit your online entry. We will have paper entries available for day-of entry, but you should email to let us know you plan to attend and include your dog call name, breed, jump height, as well as the classes you are entering.

Volunteers are needed to help staff the event. We hope to see you there and please let friends with young agility dogs know about this opportunity!

Information on ACT Class Requirements

ACT1 (standard) – 10 – 12 obstacles. Time Limit – 60 seconds. Obstacles include Aframe (5 ft.), table, jumps, open tunnels. No weaves, teeter or dog walk.

ACT1J (jumpers) – 10 – 12 obstacles. Time Limit – 50 seconds. Obstacles may include winged jumps, non-winged jumps, panel jumps, tire jump, open tunnels. No weaves or spread jumps.

ACT2 (standard) – 11 – 13 obstacles. Time Limit – 70 seconds. Obstacles include Aframe (5 ft.), teeter, dog walk (optional), tire, table, jumps, spread jumps and 6 Weaves.

ACT2J (jumpers) – 11 – 13 obstacles. Time limit – 60 seconds. Obstacles may include winged jumps, non-winged jumps, panel jumps, spread jumps, tire jump and 6 weaves.

We are moving this event to Sunday April 2. It seems that Mother Nature has conspired against us. As rain and storm winds are expected tomorrow so we will just move to Sunday.

The Durham Kennel Club Agility Committee is excited to offer ACT1 tests following its Agility Show & Go on Sunday, April 2.
Start time will be 2:30 pm, and check-in will begin at 2 pm. Dogs will have the opportunity to earn an ACT1 (standard) and an ACT1J (jumpers title) at the event.

The ACT program is for new dogs that have not yet titled in AKC Agility. It is open to dogs 15 months and older, and dogs may jump any of the AKC jump heights: 8, 12, 16, 20 or 24. There are 10 to 12 obstacles in the ACT1 test courses and the courses contain no weaves, teeter or dog walk.
