We have been experiencing freezing conditions for the next few days- here are some tips to keep your pets happy and healthy during the extra cold weather!

❄️ Cold tolerance can vary from pet to pet based on their coat, body fat stores, age, and activity level. Be aware of your pet's tolerance for cold weather, and adjust time spent outside accordingly. Elderly and dogs with arthritis have more difficulty walking on snow and ice and may be more prone to slipping and falling, while double coated dogs tend to be more cold resistant. Cats should not be outside in extreme weather and cold temperatures.

❄️After each walk, wash and dry your pet’s feet and stomach to remove ice, salt and chemicals—and check for cracks in paw pads or redness between the toes.

❄️Massage petroleum jelly into paw pads before going outside can help protect from salt. Another alternative are booties.

❄️Antifreeze is a lethal poison for dogs and cats. Be sure to thoroughly clean up any spills from your vehicle and ensure that the chemical is stored where the pet can’t come in contact.

❄️Remember, if it’s too cold for you, it’s probably too cold for your pet, so keep your animals inside as much as possible. If you see a pet left outside without shelter, please contact the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department.

We are requesting fundraising on the behalf of Greater Hillsdale Humane Society for this kitten, Petunia, who was surrendered with a broken leg.

Dr. Wood repaired her broken leg, and she is now resting comfortably in a foster home.

Today is #InternationalDogDay! We love all of our patients here at Northside and we would love to see some pictures of them. Comment in the thread below!

Look at this sweet boy! He is so easy-going, and he seems to like other cats. We have had him out and about testing him in a variety of situations, and he has passed with flying colors. He is available for adoption through our office to active clients of NVH. He must be an indoor cat. He is current on all medical care, and he has been neutered. He will need one more set of vaccines, and then he will be set for a year in terms of preventative care. Please call our office at 437-5544 if you are interested in adopting him. Have a great night, and stay warm! :)
