We all know that fireworks can be very scary for pets - and yet, every year, pets go missing from fear.

Fireworks are already popping off in neighborhoods across the island. Please take steps now to keep your pet safe. ⬇️

DO NOW:
🪪Make sure your pets are wearing properly-fitted collars with identification, with your current contact information. Your pet’s ID is their ticket home!

👩‍💻Make sure your pet’s microchip is REGISTERED and that the information is current. Visit my24pet.com to register your pet’s microchip for FREE, TODAY! In the event that your pet is brought to a shelter, both Hawaii Island Humane Society and Hawai’i County Animal Control reference my24pet.com

📸Take a clear photo of your pet’s face. You will need it if they become lost.

BEFORE THE BIG EVENT:
🐕‍🦺Take your dog for a nice, long, leashed walk where they can get in lots of sniffs to tire out their brain and help them relax later on.

🧀Start prepping those food puzzles and toys for later on. Pro tip: Fill a Kong with dog-safe foods and pop it in the freezer for a longer lasting activity later on.

🎧Download calming music and white noise on your device to block out sounds later on.

🙈Set up a safe, comfortable place for your pet to hide, INDOORS.

DURING THE FIREWORKS:
🎇Stay home with your pet.

🎆Do not bring your pet to events with fireworks.

🎇Comfort your pet if they seek comfort. Please do not ignore or punish your pet.

🎆Close windows to block out noise and light.

🎇Keep your pet indoors.

🚨If your pet becomes LOST, report them immediately at Lost.petcolove.org

We’re popping up for another ✨PUPPY ADOPTION EVENT✨ this Saturday, June 22 at Petco Hilo from 4pm to 6pm!

We’re bringing a dozen adoptable, adorable baby dogs who are ready to find loving families of their very own.

Summertime is the PERFECT time to bring home a new family member and start making memories that will last a lifetime. ☀️🍉⛱️🌴

All of our puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines/dewormer/flea/tick/heartworm prevention… and ready to go home! 🫶
