Although tsunamis from 1940 and 1964 destroyed much of the area, the locals busily rebuilt Hilo into a thriving community. Walking around Hilo, you will find that the town is now home to a multitude of museums, art centers, boutiques, restaurants and more including the famous Hilo Farmer's Market, a vibrant and colorful shopping experience. Take a walk through the Liliuokalani Gardens, or you can visit Hilo's newest world-class attraction, the Imiloa Astronomy. There's much to do here and all while you benefit from the famous local hospitality.
