My name is Dr. Alfred J. Mina, a Big Island veterinarian, and I am reaching out for your help. As you all have heard or seen on the news, the island of Maui has been severely affected by the fires earlier this week. Our colleague and owner of Lahaina Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Leo S. Murakami, was severely affected and lost the clinic he's been practicing at for a long time due to the destructive fire. Dr. Murakami operated his humble practice alone. He was not only the veterinarian; Dr. Murakami was his receptionist, technician, manager, and janitor. He is an amazing, caring and compassionate individual. SCAM ALERT

It has come to our attention that there are people using emotional distress to scam pet parents.

Another clinic in Hawaii had a client who's pet was lost, they were contacted by a scammer pretending to be a local veterinary clinic that had found their lost pet. They claimed it had been hit by a car and needed emergency surgery, and payment via Venmo was required or the animal would be put down. Please do not fall for this scam.

Please be assured that our clinic will only take payment from you via cash, credit card or Care Credit ONLY. We do not accept Venmo or other online types of payment for services. If anyone claiming to be from Maika'i Veterinary Clinic contacts you about your beloved LOST pet needing Vemno cash for an emergency surgery, it is a SCAM.
