🌱🌍 Happy World Soil Day! 🌍🌱

Today, we celebrate the incredible life beneath our feet—the soil! It's more than just dirt; it's a living, breathing ecosystem that supports everything we grow, the animals we care for, and the planet we all call home. Soil puts food on our plates, purifies our water, protects us against flooding, and combats drought. Soil is key to tackling climate change as it captures and stores vast amounts of carbon - in fact, soil is our largest carbon sink outside of the ocean! And every time soil is tilled, the microbiome is killed, and CO2 is released into the atmosphere...and we can't put it back. 🚜
Healthy soil means healthy food, healthy humans, and a healthier world. Soil is where our health and nutrition come from and we literally cannot survive without it. 🌾💚

🌱 By practicing regenerative farming, Sweet Farm is helping restore the health of the land, building rich, fertile soil, and fostering biodiversity. Through practices like composting, cover cropping, and minimal soil disturbance, we’re working to create a thriving, sustainable environment where both animals and plants can flourish together. 🐓🐐🌿

But what can YOU do to respect the soil? So much!
♥ Start composting/use a composting service.
♥ Plant native plants, and LOTs of different types (biodiversity!!)
♥ Rip out your grass and replace it with clover, wildflowers, native grasses, a veggie garden - really anything that contributes to the ecosystem!
♥ Support regenerative farms.
Let’s continue to nurture and protect our soil, because when we heal the earth, we heal ourselves.

✌ We believe that every animal deserves warmth, nourishment, and a life free from harm. At Sweet Farm, we provide a safe and loving home for over 140 rescued farm animals who have faced neglect, abuse, or abandonment. But in order to keep our rescued animals well-fed and warm all winter long, we need to buy the 1,300 bales of hay and straw they will need during the cold months when the grass is gone and winter winds blow.

1 bale of hay = $11
1 bale of straw = $6

Thanks to your support, we were able to rescue almost 50 animals this year.

We were able to donate over 2,500 lbs. of food and hundreds of garden starts to feed our community.

We've reached thousands of new visitors and subscribers to teach them about a more sustainable and compassionate way of life.

And we did it all thanks to you. As a nonprofit, we couldn't do any of this world-changing work without your support.

So on this day of gratitude, we wanted to take a moment to say that our team and our 140+ rescued animals are thankful for YOU.

As we approach the holiday season, it’s the perfect time to reflect on how we can enjoy the traditions of Thanksgiving while being mindful of our environmental impact. This year, let’s consider forgoing the frenzy of Black Friday in favor of a more sustainable, intentional approach to the holidays.

🎁 Black Friday promotes overconsumption, telling us we need more unnecessary, unwanted, cheap goods made from poor-quality, unsustainable materials and exploitative labor.

About the meal! Eating a plant-based meal is the easiest and most effective way to have a sustainable Thanksgiving. Shop locally and try to get organic ingredients that were grown or produced as close to home as possible.

🚅 More Americans travel for Thanksgiving than any other holiday. And while spending time with family and being grateful is wonderful, let’s ask ourselves if it’s really necessary to brave the craziness and create all those carbon emissions for just one day. Consider staying local or traveling by train to reduce your footprint this holiday.

🙏 This holiday season, let’s be grateful for the planet and each other by making choices that protect both. By forgoing the chaos of Black Friday and embracing a more sustainable Thanksgiving, we can enjoy a season of giving that’s good for the earth, the animals, our communities, and ourselves.

🦃🆕🎉BIG NEWS!!
The sad news first: Yet another sanctuary is having to close its doors and re-home over 100 rescued animals.
Okay now the good news: This is the third time that Sweet Farm has been able to step up and take in animals from sanctuaries that are closing...thanks to your support.

❤️ We were able to welcome FIVE new turkey ladies and promise them a safe and loving forever home.

Over 70 MILLION broad-breasted white turkeys just like these sweet ladies will be eaten over the holiday season. We are so glad we can care for these few girls and show the world how kind, affectionate, quirky, and smart turkeys really are. The world has changed. It’s time to start new traditions.

❓Won’t you sponsor our turkey team this holiday season? 👉 https://sweetfarm-bloom.kindful.com/?campaign=1175829

🍂The air is chilled and the grass is disappearing. Most of our rescued animals will rely on hay to eat all winter. Some of the animals (like Dawn and her pig friends!) also sleep in it, and we will triple or even quadruple the amount for them during the coldest season. Hay and straw are the two most essential resources when looking forward to the winter months.

Our regular monthly hay and straw delivery is already nearly $800/month, and that is during the warmer seasons. We need to begin buying our winter hay and straw now, because we can't count on finding what we need for our animals in the middle of winter snowstorms.

🙏 Can you help us keep everyone warm and fed this winter?

🐔New faces alert!! We recently took in 25 retired breeding chickens, and 18 of them are hens in need of names!

🤘What’s even cooler? Most are rare and endangered breeds! Biodiversity is essential to the health of humans, animals, plants, soil, and the planet. It creates ecosystem & climate resilience, aids in food security, and keeps our water and air clean. With the importance of biodiversity in mind, we welcomed 9 Ayam Cemani, 3 Blue Marans, 2 White-Faced Spanish, 1 Buckeye, and 3 Black Copper Marans who don’t have names yet!

Will you help us name them? For a donation of $75, you can name one of our beautiful new hen friends, and you can even let us know if there is a specific breed of hen you would like to name! Your donation will help us get these girls set up for long and healthy lives with the rest of our main flock! 🐓❤️
You can donate here and message us the name you’d like, or head to sweetfarm.org!
