Have you ever had to hold your friend’s hair back after a night on the town? 😂 Well... when it comes to our pets eating something they shouldn’t, we’re here to help in a similar—though more complicated—way!

If your pet gets into something they shouldn’t, like chocolate, a toy, or other harmful substances, time is of the essence. Bringing your pet to the vet quickly can make all the difference. At Liberty Animal Clinic, we offer a service called emesis—a safe and controlled way to help your pet expel whatever they've eaten before it has a chance to cause serious harm.

What is Emesis?

Emesis is the medical term for inducing vomiting in pets. It’s not as simple as holding back their fur, though! Our trained veterinary team uses specific medications to trigger vomiting safely and effectively. This procedure is carefully monitored to ensure that your pet releases the harmful substance without any additional complications.

Why is Emesis Important?

When a pet ingests something toxic or dangerous, it can quickly be absorbed into their system, potentially leading to serious illness or even death. Emesis helps to:

Prevent Absorption: By inducing vomiting, we can remove the harmful substance before it has a chance to be absorbed into your pet’s body.
Reduce the Risk of Poisoning: The quicker we act, the less likely your pet is to suffer from the toxic effects of the ingested substance.
Provide Peace of Mind: Knowing that we can quickly intervene and help your pet recover safely offers immense peace of mind for pet owners.
When Should You Act?

If you suspect your pet has eaten something they shouldn’t, don’t wait! Call us immediately and bring them in as soon as possible. Timing is critical, as emesis is most effective within the first few hours after ingestion.

At Liberty Animal Clinic, we’re dedicated to providing the best care for your furry friends. Whether it’s an emergency like this or routine care, we’re here to ensure your pet stays happy and healthy.

Remember: Prevention is always the best medicine, but when accidents happen, we’ve got your back—no hair holding required!

☎️ Call us or stop by if you have any questions or need us in an emergency. We’re here to help!

🚨 Why Spaying Matters: A Real-Life Example 🚨

We often emphasize the importance of spaying and neutering your pets for many reasons, and here’s one more critical example. This sweet kitty came to us because her family thought she might be pregnant, but instead, we discovered she had a condition called pyometra.

What is Pyometra?
Pyometra is a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus that occurs in unspayed female cats (and dogs). It usually happens due to hormonal changes after a heat cycle, leading to a bacterial infection in the uterus. The uterus fills with pus, which can cause severe illness or even be fatal if not treated promptly.

Signs of Pyometra:

Lethargy or depression
Loss of appetite
Increased thirst and urination
Vaginal discharge (often foul-smelling)
Abdominal swelling
Vomiting
How Common is Pyometra?
Pyometra is relatively common in unspayed female cats and dogs, especially as they age. The risk increases with each heat cycle that goes by without pregnancy.

How Can It Be Prevented?
The good news is that pyometra is completely preventable! Spaying your cat (or dog) eliminates the risk of this dangerous infection. Spaying not only prevents pyometra but also reduces the risk of other reproductive system diseases and unwanted pregnancies.

This kitty’s story is a reminder of why spaying is so crucial. We’re grateful we caught the pyometra in time, and she’s now on the road to recovery. Remember, prevention is the best medicine—spay and neuter your pets to keep them healthy and safe! 🐱❤️

🐾 Meet Oreo, Our Little Fighter! 🐾

Say hello to this wonderful kid, soon to be named Oreo! 🖤🤍 This sweet boy was rescued by a loving family who found him in desperate need of care. Unfortunately, Oreo had a severely damaged eye that couldn’t be saved. But thanks to the quick action of our amazing team at Liberty Animal Clinic, we performed an emergency enucleation (eye removal) surgery and got him back to being the happy, tail-wagging pup he’s meant to be! 🐕

What is Enucleation?
Enucleation is the surgical removal of an eye, often necessary when an eye is irreparably damaged, infected, or causing severe pain. While it might sound daunting, this surgery can greatly improve the quality of life for pets like Oreo. After surgery, most pets adapt quickly and can lead a happy, healthy life with one eye.

Our Team’s Dedication
At Liberty Animal Clinic, our team is committed to providing the best possible care for every animal that comes through our doors. When Oreo needed us, we acted swiftly to relieve his pain and give him a chance at a better life. From the surgeons to the support staff, everyone played a crucial role in Oreo’s recovery, ensuring he left our clinic with a wagging tail and a bright future ahead. 🌟

Oreo’s journey is a testament to the power of love, care, and expert veterinary treatment. We’re so proud to have been a part of his story, and we can’t wait to see him thrive in his new, loving home.

Let’s send Oreo lots of love as he starts this new chapter! 💕🐾

🌞🐾 Have You Heard of the Dog Days of Summer? 🐾🌞

The dog days of summer are here! This period, typically the hottest time of the year, is named after Sirius, the Dog Star, which rises in conjunction with the sun during these sweltering days.

Hydration is Key: Always ensure your pets have access to fresh, clean water.
Limit Outdoor Activities: Avoid taking your pets out during the peak heat hours. Early mornings or late evenings are best for walks.
Provide Shade: If your pets spend time outside, make sure they have a shady spot to retreat to.
Never Leave Pets in Cars: Temperatures can rise quickly inside a parked car, even with the windows cracked open.
Grooming: Keep your pet’s coat well-groomed to help regulate their body temperature.

🚨 Ear Mites Alert! 🚨
Ear Mites in Kittens: What Every Pet Parent Should Know!

At Liberty Animal Clinic, we often see cases of ear mites in kittens, and we want to ensure every pet parent is informed about this common issue. 🐱👂

What Are Ear Mites?
Ear mites are tiny parasites that live in the ear canal of cats (and sometimes dogs). These microscopic critters feed on the ear wax and oils in your kitten’s ears, causing irritation and discomfort.

Signs Your Kitten Might Have Ear Mites:
Excessive Scratching: Kittens with ear mites often scratch their ears intensely.
Head Shaking: Frequent head shaking is a common sign.
Dark Discharge: Look for dark, crumbly discharge that resembles coffee grounds.
Odor: A strong, unpleasant smell coming from the ears.
Inflammation: Redness and swelling in and around the ear canal.
Why It's Important to Address Ear Mites:
Ignoring ear mites can lead to serious complications, such as:

Secondary Infections: Bacterial or fungal infections can develop.
Ear Damage: Persistent scratching and head shaking can cause injury to the ear.
Hearing Loss: Severe infestations can lead to temporary or permanent hearing loss.
Treatment and Prevention:
At Liberty Animal Clinic, we provide comprehensive treatment to eliminate ear mites and prevent their return. Here’s what you can expect:

Thorough Examination: Our veterinarians will examine your kitten’s ears and confirm the presence of ear mites.
Medication: We prescribe safe and effective medications to kill the mites and soothe your kitten’s irritated ears.
Cleaning: Professional cleaning to remove debris and discharge.
Follow-Up Care: We’ll schedule follow-up visits to ensure the mites are completely gone and your kitten’s ears are healthy.
Prevent Future Infestations:
Regular Check-Ups: Routine vet visits help catch issues early.
Clean Environment: Keep your kitten’s living area clean and free of debris.
Monitor Interactions: Be cautious when your kitten interacts with other animals that may have ear mites.
If you suspect your kitten has ear mites, don’t wait! Contact Liberty Animal Clinic today to schedule an appointment. We’re here to help your furry friend stay healthy and happy.

05/25/2024

While Memorial Day is often associated with honoring fallen human soldiers, it’s also a great time to remember and celebrate our beloved pets. Here are some tips to ensure your furry friends stay safe during this holiday:

Party Smart: If you’re attending a barbecue or party, be cautious about potential dangers for your pets. Keep alcoholic beverages away from them, avoid giving table scraps, and be aware of foods that are toxic to animals (like raisins, grapes, onions, chocolate, and avocado).
Be Cool Near the Pool: Never leave your pets unsupervised around a pool or lake. Not all dogs are expert swimmers, so consider using flotation devices if your pet enjoys swimming. Also, prevent them from drinking pool water, which contains chemicals like chlorine.
Skip the Spray: Insect repellent and sunscreen can be toxic to pets unless specifically designed for them. Be cautious and watch for signs of toxicity, such as drooling, vomiting, or lethargy.
Made in the Shade: Ensure your pets have access to fresh water and a shady spot to escape the sun. Flat-faced breeds (like Pugs and Persian cats) are more susceptible to heat stroke, so keep them cool indoors if possible.
IDs, Please: Make sure your pet has a microchip or ID tag with identifying information. This helps prevent curious pets from escaping during outdoor activities.
Remember, our pets bring joy to our lives, and Memorial Day is an opportunity to honor their impact on us. 🐾 For more details, you can check out the ASPCA’s tips on celebrating safely with your pets.

Kitties in Bags! Safety First! 🐱👜

At Liberty Animal Clinic, we know that kitties often have a mind of their own. When they get in the car, you can bet they are plotting their next move! To keep our staff safe and your pet even safer, we take extra precautions during visits.

Why Use Bags or Carriers?

Stress Reduction: Enclosed spaces can help reduce anxiety for cats during travel and vet visits.
Safety: Prevents your kitty from darting out unexpectedly, ensuring they stay safe during the entire visit.
Control: Helps our staff handle your pet more easily and safely, minimizing stress for both the cat and the caregiver.
Tips for a Stress-Free Vet Visit:

Familiarity: Get your cat used to the carrier or bag at home by leaving it open with treats and toys inside.
Comfort Items: Place a favorite blanket or toy in the carrier to provide comfort.
Calming Products: Ask us about calming sprays or medications that can help ease your kitty’s anxiety.
Appointment Timing: Schedule your visit during quieter times to reduce waiting and stress.
If you have a stressed kitty that needs to see the vet, talk to us about options to make it a smooth, safe, and stress-free experience. We’re here to help ensure every visit is as pleasant as possible for both you and your feline friend.

Reach out to us with any questions or to discuss how we can make your kitty's next visit a great one!

Our Clinic is Full of the Sweetest Pups and Kitties! 🐾❤️

This particular pup is sporting what we commonly refer to as the "cone of shame," but there's nothing shameful about it! It's actually a very important tool in your pet's recovery process.

Why the Cone of Shame?

Preventing Licking and Biting: After surgeries or when they have wounds, pets tend to lick or bite the affected area, which can lead to infections or complications. The cone prevents this.
Promoting Healing: Keeping your pet from interfering with their stitches or bandages allows wounds to heal properly and faster.
Protecting Medications: The cone ensures that any topical medications applied stay in place and can do their job without being licked off.
Comfort and Adjustment Tips:

Proper Fit: Ensure the cone fits well – not too tight, but secure enough that your pet can't slip out of it.
Positive Reinforcement: Reward your pet with treats and praise when they are calm and accepting of the cone.
Alternative Options: If the traditional cone is too uncomfortable, ask us about soft cones or inflatable collars that might be more comfortable for your pet.
Remember, the cone is there to help your furry friend get better quickly and safely. At Liberty Animal Clinic, we're here to support you and your pets through every step of their care.

If you have any concerns or questions about your pet’s recovery process, don't hesitate to give us a call. We're always here to help!

Radiographs (or X-rays) are a crucial diagnostic tool that helps us get a detailed look inside your pet's body. They allow us to:

Identify Issues Early: Detect problems such as fractures, tumors, or internal injuries that may not be visible externally.
Monitor Health Conditions: Keep track of chronic conditions like arthritis or heart disease.

It's Kitten Season at Liberty Animal Clinic! 🐱💖

Kitten season is upon us, and it's an exciting time for all cat lovers! With so many adorable kittens being born, it's crucial to talk about the importance of spaying and neutering and ensuring our new feline friends get the best start in life.

The Importance of Spaying and Neutering:

Population Control: Spaying and neutering help control the cat population, reducing the number of homeless cats and kittens.
Health Benefits: Spayed and neutered cats are less likely to develop certain cancers and infections, leading to longer, healthier lives.
Behavioral Improvements: Neutered males are less likely to roam and mark their territory, while spayed females won't go into heat, reducing stress and unwanted behaviors.
Early Veterinary Care for Kittens:
If you have new kittens, here's what they need in their early days:

Vaccinations: Kittens require a series of vaccinations to protect them from diseases like feline distemper, calicivirus, and rhinotracheitis. Starting vaccinations early ensures they build strong immunity.

Deworming: Intestinal parasites are common in kittens. Regular deworming treatments help keep your kitten healthy and prevent complications.

Flea and Tick Prevention: Even young kittens need protection from fleas and ticks. Your vet can recommend safe and effective treatments suitable for kittens.

Nutritional Guidance: Proper nutrition is vital for a kitten's growth and development. Our vets can advise you on the best diet to ensure your kitten gets all the necessary nutrients.

General Health Check-ups: Regular vet visits help monitor your kitten's growth and catch any potential health issues early.

At Liberty Animal Clinic, we're here to support you and your new kittens every step of the way. Bring your furry little ones in for a check-up, and let's ensure they have the healthiest start possible!
