How do you know when your pet needs an a**l gland expression?
People notice their pet scooting their b***y on the floor, and sometimes think they have worms. Most of the time, this is not the case!
Our pets have glands, similar to that of a skunk. They are normally expressed with regular, formed bowel movements. They can also express them out of fear, but not on command, such as skunks.
Sometimes, your pet's stool is not firm or formed enough to naturally release their a**l glands, and they end up needing to have them manually expressed. Groomers do external a**l gland expressions, which normally leaves some substance behind in the gland.
I do internal expressions, where I can express the substance out from the inside and make sure they are fully emptied.
Signs that your pet needs their glands expressed:
Scooting
Foul, fishy odor
Sniffing/licking at a**l area
Acting as if something is hurting their a**l area
