Black Friday is the best day to apply to adopt one of our gorgeous black hounds! Did you know black dogs often spend longer in shelters compared to other dogs? We can’t imagine why, because these hounds are some of the very sweetest dogs!

Black dogs are often our longest-available fosters through no fault of their own.

Galgos Andy and Hermes and greyhounds Lummox, King, and Jake have all been waiting for the right person to notice them for a while. (Andy is even cat-tolerant!)

Greyhounds Spinner, Elf, Seb, and Robin arrived last month, and they would love to find a home for the holidays, too!

If you or someone you know is considering adopting a dog, please consider one of these wonderful black hounds!

Foster pup Javier hopes everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving, including a nice long post-dinner nap.

American Greyhound is SO thankful for everyone who has played a role in helping the hounds this year, whether you have adopted, fostered, donated, transported, volunteered, shared posts, or contributed in some other way. 💕 Thank you for all you do!

(Gorgeous Javier is adoption-pending - but there are many other great dogs available on our website!)

Getting ready to start your holiday shopping this weekend? Tickets for the 2026 Winning Hearts Benefit Gala make a great gift for your favorite friends and family (and as a treat for yourself, too)! Winning Hearts is our biggest fundraiser of the year, with all proceeds going to continue to the work we do to help sighthounds in need with essentials like vet care, transportation, and more. Whether they are greyhounds whose racing careers have ended, galgos rescued from the streets of Spain, or any other hound in need of a safe and loving forever home, your support on May 2 will allow us to continue giving these wonderful dogs a second chance.

Winning Hearts this year will be held at Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City, IN, where you can help the hounds while having a great night out at the same time! Enjoy dinner and an open bar, along with exciting silent and live auctions featuring items that will appeal to everyone! Blue Chip has on-site hotel rooms available, in addition to their spa, casino, and other amenities - so you can make a fun weekend out of it if you choose!

Tickets are on sale now, and available at early bird pricing through December 31. Adults are just $80 (and kids 13 and under are $40) for the remainder of 2025, so make sure to get your tickets soon and mark your calendars for a wonderful evening in support of the hounds!

Are you looking for a holiday helper to liven up your home? Adoptable Elf would love to met you! Elf lives up to his name, and Foster Mom Marsha says he is cute, funny, loveable, and mischievous! He loves squeaky toys and treats, and will even carry clothes and shoes around. He is very curious, and has had a great time investigating all of the new experiences that come with living in a house. (For example, the bathroom trash is full of paper! Kitchen countertops have all sorts of treasures!) But Elf is also a very smart and confident boy, who can climb stairs, has not had any potty accidents in his foster home, and has not experienced any anxiety over his big move across the Atlantic. He knows he's living the good life in his foster home!

Elf is looking for a fairly active adopter (without cats!) who will enjoy his lively personality. He's a very good boy who just needs a bit more adventure in his life than the average greyhound (not that he isn't an excellent napper, as well)! Additionally, Elf has shown some reactivity to other dog breeds, though he seemed to get along fine with his fellow greyhound companions. His foster family has been working with him on this, and have found that he is highly food-motivated and can be redirected with treats. He would do well as an only dog, or with another laid-back greyhound.

Elf is ready to find his adopters! Could that be you? Apply today at americangreyhound.org!

American Greyhound is proud to close out our 25th year of rescuing and rehoming greyhounds, galgos, and other sighthounds. As we look back on a quarter-century of helping these incredible dogs get a second chance, we're reminded that none of it would be possible without the support and compassion of our community!

This season, we invite you to take part in our online Holiday Auction from December 3 - December 7, with all proceeds directly funding the medical expenses of the hounds who rely on us. From emergency care to ongoing treatment, your generosity ensures that every dog we welcome can begin their new life healthy, safe, and loved.

Thank you for standing with us for 25 years and counting, and working with us to make a life-changing difference for the dogs we love!

Seb has been in his new foster home for just over a week, and he has settled in nicely. He’s a smart boy who likes to arrange his blankets in his bed to prop up his head while he sleeps. Who doesn't love a comfy pillow? Seb also learned to use stairs in just two days! He is food-motivated, and has already learned that being a good boy outside means a special treat when he gets back in. He follows his foster dad everywhere in the house, but settles down quickly once in place.

Foster Dad says Seb is a happy boy... if he’s standing up, he’s wagging his tail! He will do best in a home with no cats and likely no very small dogs. He's seemed increasingly settled and happy the longer he is in foster care, and will make a great pet for someone!

Seb is three years old, and his fourth birthday is just one month away. He hopes to celebrate it with his adopters! Could that be you?

Want a new BFF to cuddle with you during these cold winter months? Lummox is a friendly, sweet greyhound who would do best in a home where he is alone no more than a few hours at a time, and with no cats or small dogs. He enjoys spending time with his foster family and galgo brother, loves relaxing on the couch for hours, and enjoys playing with his toys.

Foster Mom Jordan says Lummox thrives in the spotlight when they go out in public: "Lummy is the star of the show! He has no fear of strangers and loves to receive pets and attention from all people.”

If Lummox sounds like the dog you've been waiting for, submit an application on our website today!

Adoptable Spinner needs your help for a friend! One of his kennelmates from the UK is looking for a new foster home - would you be able to step in?

When a dog goes to a foster home, we learn a lot about them… unfortunately, sometimes what we learn is that the dog isn’t a great fit for that particular foster home. Since their arrival last week, we’ve learned that sweet ex-racer Seb prefers a home with no cats or small dogs. This means he needs to find somewhere else to go. He would do best in a quiet or average activity level home.

Spinner is having a great time exploring all the toy bins in his foster home, and he wants his pal Seb to have an equally fun foster experience! If you are able to foster Seb please contact Nicole Graves. (Or if you’re interested in adopting any of our available dogs, please submit your application online!)s s
