Puppies are not easy and especially with a high energy working breed….even though she looks like a slug searching in the video. It is about patience and timing. This days training was llooonnnnggggg as we had a couple things working against us in she is just coming out of a puppy mild fear period and there were a lot of distractions.
She very slowly worked the puzzle out and we are still working on that final alert but in the end she found her source in an area where the scent pool was big and the source had been moved around slightly in a close proximity.
Good job Echo!

Source still hidden but moved to a little easier location for me to start building her trained final response.

This girl never ceases to amaze me with her desire to find the HR source albeit she was moving slow today 🦥 😂…..no chance of blowing past it! Today was the fourth time of working on HR source odor and for four times she has not let me down.
Now to start adding that trained final response.
This find did take the degree of difficulty up several notches but she took the challenge.

A little quick easy training find for Kite late yesterday evening. She made it quick and look easy anyway! That girl is a HRD BEAST!!!

Back in Burnsville NC today as we continue the search for missing. Kites nose has been requested in the Bat Cave area tomorrow so I guess we will take a little ride down there.
Also Kite has a new sister that is a Dutch Shepherd so everyone meet Echo. She was solid as a rock on the pile of debris!

Day 15 and after a day of searching I headed home so I could see my beautiful girl Karsyn. Monday I will head back up there to check more areas in Burnsville and possibly move a little further south to check some other areas over the next while.
Sunday will be a day for Kite to play or rest whichever she decides.

Day 8 in the ruins with Kite doing Kite stuff. So many amazing people have stepped us to help us out with a lot of heavy machinery and others with just their hands but these piles are massive and ALL help is appreciated big or small! We have met some amazing people.

Day Nine of searching. We have made a big dent in one of the debris piles. Our canines have worked very hard and so Good!
A huge Thank you to Bobby Grogan for bringing up some stuff that I needed from home today. My boots are on the dryer now.
We covered another large area without alerts today which is good but so much more to do.
I can’t begin to tell y’all how great so many people have been. It has truly been amazing and a Blessing!
Thank you Allie Bakerfor delivering the puppy tomorrow so Kite and I can stay longer and continue searching for the missing.

Day 10 and we are making slow but steady progress. We are down to just Kite as our HRD Canine now and it was super tough on two.
We have some big equipment coming in tomorrow so hopefully we will go a little faster being able to move the huge stuff with ease. Thank you to everyone that has came out to help in whatever way possible because without you it would not be possible.
I have met some amazing people up here these 11 days that I have been up here so far.

Day 11 on the piles of debris in Burnsville, NC. We made great progress today and it was not a good day with it being cold and drizzling pretty much all day. We have some great folks out there making it happen though!
A huge Thank you to everyone that has came out and helped. We have had so many people bring in their excavators, skid steers, chain saws and their hands to accomplish these goals.
I heard today that there were over 200 still missing and I read that the number was 1000+. I don’t know that anyone really knows what the true number is.
I was able to get a few pics of a different area here as the Yancey Sheriffs Office requested Kite and I check an area for them on a different river than what we have been working but as you can see the destruction is to almost every creek, stream and river. Peoples gardens and corn fields just wiped out before they had a chance to harvest and the corn already sprouting back up.
Lastly I have one tired girl tonight.
Again I can’t say Thank you enough to everyone that is helping out in anyway!

Day 12 of working the rubble pile in Burnsville, NC. Kite was awesome to be the only canine working this new but she handled it beautifully and got lots of love and snuggles!!!

Day 13 of searching for the missing in NC. Kite is the only HRD canine we have now and she has handled these last two days by herself like the beast she is.
So much more to be searched though!
