It’s almost that time again! Every day, we work tirelessly to care for the horses we’ve rescued, and it all leads up to this—our next Buy-Out day. In just a couple days, we’ll be carrying out to save as many horses as we can, and we need your help to do it. There is always more waiting—more who will be sent to slaughter if no one steps in. This month is no different. We are preparing to do everything in our power to save them, no matter their condition. Even if the only kindness we can offer is a peaceful end to their suffering, we are committed to giving them the dignity they deserve.

Our Buy-Out program is happening on the 25th, and while we don’t know what condition the horses will be in, one thing is certain—they will need our help.

Over the years, we’ve encountered horses who were gravely ill and needed a peaceful passing, others with injuries requiring urgent care, and many who simply needed a second chance outside the slaughter pipeline. No matter their situation, we are committed to saving as many as possible.

We don’t ask where these horses come from because we already know where they’re headed—with us, they’ll find safety and a chance for a better life. That path will look different for each one, but our mission remains the same: to rescue, heal, and rehome them whenever possible.

The USDA released a report on February 25th detailing the number of horses exported into Mexico. There was a significant increase in numbers, from 415 horses in the previous week to 503.

Neglected horses endure so much suffering. They’re sold, but often that just means they’re passed from one owner to the next, eventually ending up at the end of the Slaughter Pipeline—a cruel and inhumane death. The stress they go through is unbearable. We’re here to rescue them through our Buy-Out program next Tuesday no matter their condition, even if it means the Last Act of Kindness.

Other horses are simply in the wrong situation, with owners who didn’t know how to care for them, and now they’re starving and at serious risk of being sent to slaughter too soon. We’re asking for your help to step in and prevent them from going any further down this tragic path. Your donations are crucial to ensuring they can safely return to the shelter. Our team is always emotionally impacted by the critical condition of the horses as they are unloaded from the trailer. Although it is a triage situation, each horse senses it is finally safe and surrounded by love and care; they are finally rescued from the slaughter pipeline. On the way to the Slaughter Pipeline, these horses are reduced to mere numbers. Once loved and cared for, now they are isolated and broken, far from any tenderness, completely overlooked. Some endure more pain than others, but we are committed to rescuing every horse we can, no matter their condition, and providing them with the care they deserve, even if that means giving them the Last Act of Kindness.
