It’s that time. Darcy and Parker’s spring litter is going home starting tomorrow. We send every puppy home with medical records, food, puppy pads for the drive home, a toy and blanket rubbed on mama and daddy, and an info pack that shares supplies we like and tips for the first few days with puppy.

Sleepy Suzy…

Finley and her baby Suzy playing together. So sweet!

So baby Suzy (the small brown and black one 4.5 weeks) has figured out how to escape her enclosure. The older pups (8weeks) were out for their morning frolic while their area was being cleaned and Suzy wanted in. She tried really hard to keep up and the others were happy to see her. I just kept getting little sibling vibes as she chased after them but then got a little nervous when they got close. I put her back in the whelping box after a couple of minutes so she wouldn’t get overwhelmed. The bigs are a rowdy bunch at their age. #floridapuppies #puppycutenessoverload #puppylover #doglovers #teddybearpuppies #shichonpuppies #teddybearpuppy

We let Ryder (our smallest from Darcy’s litter) play for a while with baby Suzy. She’s Finley’s only puppy so we want to make sure she has some interaction with other puppies as she starts to play and get around on her own. When Darcy’s litter goes home with their families on/around the 19th Suzy will be old enough to hang out with the ‘big dogs’.

Some night time fun while their puppy area is being cleaned out. 6 weeks and his first bath. Ace did great. We wait to give baths until the puppies are old enough to regulate their own body temperature. Willow really loved her first bath. We also did some face combing and even had a blow dryer running in the background to introduce her to the noise it made. In her next few weeks with us we will acclimate her to as many grooming activities as we can. We don’t clip their hair or nails in the weeks we have the puppies but we will go through the motions, even running the back side of the clippers on them gently to encourage a feeling of calm in the presence of all that is necessary for a teddy bear puppy.

A perfect little puppy pile..

I got video of Ryder eating solid food today. I guess he’s just the thoughtful type and took a little time to warm up. For these first few feedings we soften dry puppy food with warm water and add either puppy supplement or buttermilk. So far it’s always been a big hit. The puppies will still nurse from Darcy for the next week or two but should be weened by about 6 weeks.

Now dryer time… This is the puppies first time with the blow dryer so we keep it as relaxed as possible. As the weeks go on we will blow dry them more directly but we hope this warm and cozy intro will keep them from being bothered by the noise and airflow.
