Paws4Survival Rescue Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of Puerto Rico street dogs.

Paws4Survival is a nonprofit (501c3) organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of Puerto Rico street dogs. We provide veterinary care, shelter, and socialization in a daycare facility to prepare these dogs for adoption in the New York and New England area. Our strategic plan focuses on the town of Arroyo in the Southeastern part of the island, however we always help with pleas from l

ocal rescuers. Within Arroyo, there are two beach areas, Playa Chiropolis and Malecon in which we work to keep the dogs safe from animal control. Our volunteers provide basic shelter, food and water and care is provided until an opening in our program is available. Dogs that are not candidates for our program are captured for spay/neuter and returned to the beach to live under our care.

Almost exactly one year to the day we asked for the oldest dog and oldest cat at the shelter for Christmas miracles.

Mr. Fred was a 14 year old bully pit that was the dog who needed the most help and oldest dog at the borough we were working with that day. So our Xmas present was rescuing Fred and a cat named Marsha.

To meet Fred was to love Fred, his positive attributes are just too long to be listed ..

As we cry, we also need to smile thanks to Missy and his family he had the best year of his life. Even his own twin bed :)

Fred, we had the time of our lives with you… you best knock us down with those slobber kisses the minute we arrive at the rainbow bridge … bye sweet baby boy😓

Meet Brady, our loving 3-year-old Lab/Pointer mix who is looking for his forever home! Brady is a big boy at 102 pounds and is up-to-date on all of his vaccines and neutered. He came to us after living in an apartment where he struggled with separation anxiety, so he’s ready for a stable, structured home where he can feel secure and loved.

Separation anxiety can lead to behaviors such as barking. Luckily Brady is not destructive in a home setting. Brady’s anxiety means he would thrive best in a home where someone is around often to give him the reassurance and companionship he needs.

Brady loves to play with other dogs, but due to jealousy and food aggression, we recommend he be the only dog in the home. On the bright side, he’s great with cats! He’s got a playful spirit, especially when it comes to a game of fetch, but he does need a bit of training on leash manners as he tends to pull on a longer leash.

Brady is smart, affectionate, and ready to find a dedicated adopter who can provide the structure and love he craves. If you’re home often and can give Brady the time and attention he deserves, you’ll have a loyal, fun-loving companion for life!

The verdict is in :)

Our foster family of 10 years and the President of our rescue has determined Duque may be one of the best, most behaved fosters they both have had ! I mean he has had a lot of pups to compete with 🥰

Duque is 18 months old, 35 pounds, fully vetted and microchipped. He loves dogs of all sizes, likes cats, has no accidents, eats well with groups of pups and loves to be by your side. Duque is being fostered in Belchertown.

If you are looking for the perfect middle size pup look no further , Duque is for you. ❤️❤️

Sacha and friends are letting you know it isn’t too late to donate to our organization for . Two out of 12 months of our rent have been received and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

If we could reach a goal of 2,000 by the end of this evening we could pay 6 months of our rent off for 2025, our shelter is a mass state approved quarantine facility with over 20 volunteers and over 600 cats and dogs who go through our doors every year for almost a decade :)

As we head into the holiday season, we at Paws4Survival are grateful for all of you.
Our adopters, volunteers, monthly donors, our donors from the high risk list where we have successfully rehabilitated over 25 animals or more headed to the euthanasia room. We are grateful for our partner shelters and the amazing folks who donate food and blankets daily. There is so much more love than hate in this world and we would not be here without you.

A few rescue photos from this year. The loon was a rescue in conjunction with the Marshfield Animal Control and Marshfield Harbormaster . Did you know loons symbolize tranquility, serenity and the reawakening of old hopes and dreams? This loon was successful re-released to the wild.

Urgent ‼️ Temporary foster needed from December 9th to Jan 16th only!

Nutella needs a foster while her current foster travels overseas, this is for 5 weeks only. Nutella is 10 years old, 85 pounds, and a very easy loving girl to care for. She is great with children and medium to large size dogs. We are looking for a foster with no cats or small dogs.

As an older girl, we would hate to place her in boarding or a partner shelter so please help us out if you can. Additional information please email [email protected]

Don Danny is grateful and he has reason to be. It’s the holiday season and with an estimated 600k dogs abandoned in Puerto Rico alone, he found someone to take him in.

Don Danny’s story is heartbreaking, his owner passed away. When this happened, the children of the owner moved into the home and moved Don Danny out of the house into the yard. He was running the yard all the time and in jeopardy of injury or attack by larger dogs SO a neighbor thinking they were doing right tied him to a lead for over two years… and Don Danny sat and sat….. missing his owner without the ability to move freely.

A local rescuer Rosy finally freed him from the hell he was subjected to and this weekend the kind team at South Shore Animal Services pulled a lot of his decaying teeth out… now one bottom tooth hangs out like a snaggletooth ;).

Don Danny is 7 years old, 25 pounds and a super easy loving dog that just wants to be by your side after being neglected of that form of companionship for so long. Don Danny needs a home for the holidays but more importantly forever.

Harmony now Honey is officially adopted ❤️❤️❤️🎉 You know we are a sucker for these bully breeds :)

Harmony was rescued off the streets of Brockton and transferred to Boston MSPCA, the moment we saw her we took her into our care.

Honey loves other dogs but cats and small animals NOT so much so she needed a special foster and Tim stepped up. Tim had a sweet pup named Summer that had a horrible diagnosis and Honey mended his broken heart , well actually they healed each other.

As you can see his niece is also in love with our mini bulldozer ❤️

One more happy ending for the bully breed 🐶

When life throws you a challenge, you embrace it ❤️🫶🏼

The day we spoke with Chubbs former owner we couldn’t get him out of the Bronx fast enough. He was fed human leftovers if there was any because the family didn’t have the money for dog food. There were also several other dogs in the apartment starting fights with Chubbs so he was stuck in a crate for his safety.

The day we received him is the first photo. His skin was literally raw and bleeding in some spots, his eyes filled with pus and his ears even worse. Despite all of this, he was one silly amazing personality ready to be loved and adored.

His medical protocol for two months was very intense. The whole staff at loved and adored him. We all healed him together and it was enough to make you smile from ear to ear. Our boy was ready for a family :)

Joe and Ally were looking for an English Bulldog to complete their family. They didn’t want to buy from a breeder which we commend ! They saw Chubbs on Petfinder and fell in love…. Not only did they fall in love with him but the moment we opened up the door for the meet & greet it was almost like Chubbs knew his family came for him. It was one of the most heartwarming meet and greets in over a decade.

Chubbs is thriving, living it up in the city and becoming an avid football fan between naps and food…

This is everything …. THiS IS RESCUE ❤️

Princess Ruby was abandoned in NYC at 13, severely matted with overgrown nails.
As we all know, the nights are now cold and we don’t know how long this little old lady was left to suffer.
She was brought to and after her medical examination she was listed as hospice care and placed on the high risk list.

She will know find a foster home to live out however many days she has left. Her appetite is wonderful, she loves car rides and gives kisses.

Tomorrow she receives her first spa day ❤️

To her previous owners, is real !

Lil Harris is alive in this photo but sadly did not survive. We do not know how long Harris went without eating and we are not judging anyone but did hear he was fed before coming into our care. Harris’s lungs were full of milk and aspiration killed him.

We would like to use this as a teaching post to let everyone know, whether you find a puppy, kitten, orphaned baby wild mammal or orphaned baby bird, DO NOT provide anything by mouth unless you are trained or licensed. Most people think they are doing the right thing but in essence they are killing the baby.
Steps such as heat and hydration need to come before actual feeding to be successful in rehabilitating any animal - domestic or wildlife.

Harris you were loved , and will never be forgotten.

Ooohhhhhh Oscar 😓

Oscar and his brother Bruce arrived two weeks ago and we knew they needed to be separated to bring out their personalities. As you may recall, these are the 2 puppies who never flew after being rescued at 3 months and now are a year old.

Oscars foster has a very large yard and it’ is impossible to get him inside, in addition, there are no sidewalks or lights on the fosters street for walks. Oscar is now at the shelter until we can find him a quiet home with a small fenced yard or able to do leashed walks. The foster must have some patience but we promise this boy is a sweetheart ❤️ just needs some TLC

If you can help us please reach out as soon as possible. We don’t want Oscar in a shelter environment but we also don’t want to have him outside for hours unable to be brought back inside.

2 hours ago lil Harris was dropped off to our team. Harris was found alone in New Bedford and a local rescue had a nursing mom but the other babies were too big and started smushing him :( If anyone has a nursing mom with babies please message us directly.

Keep little Harris in your thoughts and prayers , he is warming up, had some IV fluids and ate a bit .,, oops and just let out a meow :) a true fighter ❤️

Happy Halloween from all of us ..Focas/Gaspar is all festive today and can’t wait to hand out candy to all the kids at his foster home tonight.

Foca is deaf with limited vision but one of the sweetest little doxies you could ever meet, Foca is 2 years old, 7 pounds and is a wonderful companion. He loves playing with dogs, small and big. He does bark at cats though 🤪 Hence his new name, Foca means Seal in Spanish and he sounds like a seal when he barks ❤️

Honey was found in NYC as a stray by a kind soul who immediately brought him to the closest police precinct. His past is a mystery.
Honey came to us from . We always take the seniors with medical issues who are typically overlooked by other groups.
When Honey arrived his dermatitis was so bad that his whole belly was oozing infection and he also had rodent ulcers. He was a hot mess but between foster mom Tracy & , we healed his skin and he became the happiest senior gentleman you would ever want to meet.

This weekend our 11 year old orange boy was adopted by John & Louise. Honey got his fairy tale ending 🧚🏻‍♂️

Foca may be deaf and almost blind but he is an active puppy who loves to play with dogs and toys alike. He is 2 years old and 7 pounds. He is perfectly imperfect, don’t let his disabilities deter you from one of the cutest little pups on the planet

Today we get to call Annie. We are very excited to call Annie. Annie was admitted into a nursing home and had to surrender sweet Sacha to Save A Sato. Today we call her and let her know an amazing volunteer with the most glorious family will love and adore her in CT until we find her forever family. These are the moments we live for! People helping people, the kindness the world needs, the kindness all animals deserve.

Tommy loves others cats, adores human affection and is obsessed with each and every kind of wet food. Everyone meet Mildred. Mildred is 1 year of age and comes to us from our partner @saveasatopuertorico. Currently there are about 500+ cats in their care. In Puerto Rico, a CH cat has no chances of adoption. The island, the size of Connecticut, has an estimated 1 million cats on the streets. CH is Cerebellar Hypoplasia otherwise known as Wobbly Cat Syndrome. We would like everyone to know it is not contagious and it is not painful to the cat either. This typically occurs when a pregnant mom contracts certain viruses, is malnourished or has significant trauma while her babies are in the womb. Mildred needs that special family to love and adore her, we have no doubt she will find that. Her loving, playful spirit shines through her disability ❤️🇵🇷
