The Tao of the Trails

Happy Tails is a term of endearment I use towards my dogs as we take the trail. The joy I feel as I watch the symphony of happy tails take flight is life affirming! My love of animals and the outdoors is at the core of who I am. Growing up in Holladay, Utah, I often found myself staring longingly at the peaks of the Wasatch mountains. When I turned 16 that longing to be outside quickly became my reality, and my life. I have been an avid hiker and runner through the beautiful mountains of Utah, and in tow, at least one dog. Who would have thought that my love of animals and the outdoors would bring me to realizing my dream job. I started out dog walking professionally 4 years ago and quickly fell in love with being a pack leader. The transformation that can occur in a dog that has regular exercise, consistency, structure, and positive reward is absolutely amazing. Watching a dog find him or herself in the pack has been a great learning lesson both on and off the trail. Recognizing posture and subtle cues is fundamental in having a well behaved and happy pack. A well behaved dog is a blessing, and a well behaved pack is absolutely joyous! When it comes to hiking dogs, my philosophy is simple, well behaved dogs have the most fun!
