We ordered some button quail eggs on Ebay. We let them rest a day and we put them in the incubator today. These eggs are so tiny and beautiful I can't wait to see what colors we get when they hatch. I hope they enjoy living on our little urban farm.

We decided to put the owl near the window box to help keep away the little thieves that stole the pea seeds 😂

Sophia and I planted some seedlings in the window box. We put garlic, tom thumb peas, beets, radishes, spinach and lettuce. We had pea seeds in here previously but something ate all but one of them.

Planted some Bloody Dock (red Sorel) seeds last summer and they never came up. They must need cold stratification because they're up now!

Trying another new thing this year because why not? These are an Italian variety of fava bean called Extra Precoce A Grano Violetto. I had a hard time finding non-conflicting info on when exactly to plant them outside here so we planted half in an outdoor raised bed and half we are starting indoors to plant outside just in case these get too much cold.

I learned about winter sowing this past winter and decided to give it a try. I drilled holes in the bottoms and tops of some clear plastic tubs, added organic potting mix, seeds, water and threw them outside. I can't believe how easy it was and I was able to start my garden a lot earlier than I usually do. I started all these on February 10th and I'm already seeing sprouts! 😁

I love tomatoes so much especially with so many colors. They're all heirloom and over a dozen varieties from white to black.

I haven't taken a lot of pictures lately because I haven't been feeling well but today Sophia picked the carrot bed. I'm happy with how many we got considering something got into them when they first sprouted. I'm loving the little "baby" carrot variety.

Sophia ran inside tonight excitedly yelling that there was a zucchini ready to be picked so I went out with her to pick it. I noticed there were some potatoes ready too so I let her dig some up. She was so excited she couldn't contain herself and now she needs a bath because she's covered in dirt 😂

We don't have enough strawberries yet to preserve but we got some from a local farm. We made freezer jam using local raw honey instead of sugar. I couldn't use cornstarch in the pie, since Sophia can't eat corn, so I used pectin and it worked great.

Potatoes are emerging, raspberries are doing well, strawberries are blossoming, both regular and Sophia's Alpine ones, and a few volunteer mustard and lettuce popped up.

Picked our first ever asparagus today. Chibi (Sophia's dog) also loves asparagus so he got to taste it too.
