Looking for an Earthly thing to do this coming Earth Day? For us, this holiday marks the time to plant our leeks and bulbing onions. We also see it as an opportunity to invite our community to get their hands in the soil! Plant thousands of tiny onion seedlings with us to celebrate our connection to the Earth and to each other. This year, Earth Day lands on Tuesday, April 22nd - but we’ll observe it from 9am to noon on the following Saturday, April 26th at our farm in 12330 James street in Holland, MI. Heading to will get you to the north end of our farm.

If you plan to join us, DM us or email [email protected]. Water, sun protection, and a pair of gardening gloves (we also have some) are all good things to bring if possible.

PS If you’d rather spend time with us on true Earth Day, you’re welcome to join us at the farm from 9am to noon-ish. We won’t be planting onions, but farm tasks abound! There’s usually plenty to do.

Email [email protected] if you’re going with thjs alternate plan.

The growing season is nigh! Looking back through some of last years content makes me yearn to discover what will be in 2025.

We’ve had more staff and volunteers on the farm in the last two weeks and it’s been a little more vibrant and enjoyable. While all the crops and weeds are still short, this dry spring week is a real blessing so we can stay ahead of fieldwork.

Our CSA shares are selling —- we have 36 shares left! Think about what you want to spend your money on: local produce that keeps well, tastes good, and supports local farmers who ship locally? Yes please!

When people think about planning a garden, the mind automatically uses the displays at the grocery store or farmers market with huge variety as an example of what to grow. The thing is that each of those crops have differing needs when it comes to watering, soil nutrients, and cultivation. Because of this expectation, planning and maintaining garden can sometimes feel daunting or overwhelming. I recommend starting with what dishes you enjoy and would spend the time to make given a sturdy supply from your backyard - or maybe you want fresh cut flowers or a certain aesthetic in your growing space.

Whatever you end up growing, we’d love to give those plants a good head start. We offer seedlings that come from organic seed when possible and pot them into Organic soil mix from Dairy Doo. We also sell sifted and bulk compost!

Purchase a CSA share by January 1st and receive an Eighth Day tote —- free of charge!

Eighth Day offers a vegetable CSA that runs for 20 weeks from early June through late October. The season starts heavy on greens and early roots(🥬,🥗,🫛), fruiting crops (🥒,🍅,🍆) pick up in late July, and hardy fall crops (🥕,🧅,🌶️) start showing up in August. We run what’s considered a “traditional CSA”, meaning we ~the farmers~ curate what each weekly pickup consists of based on seasonal availability and what we’ve received positive feedback on. We strive to maintain a steady abundance of veggies for a house of four —- or fewer people if y’all love vegetables or preserving.

Join us for the Great Garlic planting of 2024!

We’ll be gathered at our Growth Center, 709 Pine Ave., Holland from 9-12 this Saturday, November 9c to plant over 8,000 cloves of garlic. As per tradition, the planting will be followed by a hearty potluck (garlic theme dishes encouraged but not required). This is an open house event—come when you can, leave when you have to. It helps us out if you RSVP through the link in our bio, but if you find yourself with some time to spare on Saturday morning, we’d love to have you with or without a RSVP.

Hope to see you there!

We’ve crunched numbers and the grand total raised at Farm to Fork 2024 was...

 $10,462!

We are absolutely floored by your support. We’ve been able to donate over $13,000 of produce so far this season because of funds raised at last years event (where we raised $8,000), and we are so encouraged and empowered by the number for this year. We believe that the most fresh, nutritious, and highest quality food should be the most accessible, and these funds supplement the cost of produce drops to Community Action House and St. Vincent de Paul’s Emergency Food Pantry, helping us distribute our fresh, nutritious, locally grown produce to our neighbors while sustaining on farm operations and staff.

Eighth Day exists to love the land and love the people, and the support we received at Farm to Fork is a picture of what we feel year round. We are so grateful for this community and all of the ways you show up for us: volunteering, donating, being a CSA member, serving on our board, working on a committee, and buying our produce makes it possible for us to care for land and people well. We are continually humbled by this work and the interconnectedness that we rely on to make it happen: we truly need one another to do good work, and we feel that deeply this time of the year.

To all of you that came out, volunteered, donated, ate, grooved, and imbibed at Farm to Fork, thank you. And to all of you that couldn’t make it, we missed you and we hope you’re able to come next year. It’s a good time, and you will leave with a full heart and belly. A very special thank you to the Kroll family, who has hosted us for the past 4 years. It gets bigger and better every year thanks to their heart, talent, and dedication to loving people well. Thank you, Terry and Jennifer Kroll! And huge shoutout to for taking these incredible photos of the evening 💚
