3️⃣3️⃣3️⃣ Rule for Adopting a Dog

It takes about 3 days for your new pet to understand their new living environment. This time is often needed for decompression & should be spent with only the people in the home, as to not overwhelm your new dog.

The next 3 weeks should be spent building a routine with your pet. Spend time with them, showing them around the areas surrounding the home & also faces they will see in their life — like new human & people friends too! Make sure you are rewarding them for all good behaviors & offering frequent verbal praise too.

Within 3 months is the time to further the bond you have started to build with your pet & begin training sessions. Even if your dog came with a knowledge of tricks, reinforcing obedience or learning new commands will build your pet’s confidence in themselves & you! This is also around the time where some behaviors may arise, as your dog is now feeling like they are at home & have found their family. Keeping these general guidelines in mind will help with a smooth transition in adding a new pup to your life 🩷

Dunkin & Brewer update…

Shoulda named Brewer Slim as he p**ped out a slim Jim wrapper today. Lots of pieces of things in both of their p**p. If I had to assume I’m guessing they were eating trash. They are both quite underweight. Dunkin has already learned he doesn’t love kibble unless it has canned food mixed in. Spoiled smart boy.

They are lovingggg the peanut butter jerky treats that our friends at Chow Hound donated to us.

We do have one request, does anyone have a wire crate about 36 inches to 42 inches with a side door that they are not currently using? The one we are the bottom pan doesn’t come out which makes it hard to clean a messy puppy’s cage and I think they have a while wheel

They are perfect! 🤎🖤

We can’t thank all of you that made this happen enough. A BIG thank you again to Officer Sanchez for reaching out, as well as Lauren and Stephanie for transporting the new pups to us today. We also want to thank Lisa who came back out again tonight and helped with first time baths, getting treats & puppy food ready and all kinds of puppy snuggles.

We decided to stick with the National Expresso Day theme….

An Offical welcome to Dunkin (little guy) and Brewer! 🐾

Unfortunately Dunkin did puke up a sock on his transport today (but seems to be holding food down now), and Brewer is feeling a bit under the weather. But we are in contact with our AMAZING vets despite it being the weekend. They are both a bit skinny, but loved their puppy food as well as the canned food we added in for some extra calories. With some extra TLC we are hopeful they will be feeling their best in no time at all.

If you could, send some healing & good vibes their way they could use it. ❤️‍🩹

We start this Saturday off with happy news! 👏

Kendal Snow now Lilac (Lyla) and her brother Ralphie have been adopted together! 💞

They are settling in to their new home well and we can already tell they are going to be very spoiled kitties.

A BIG thank you to Raelynn & her family for fostering these cuties and getting them ready for their fur-ever home.

We want to send a little shout out to Lisa who gave up time on her Friday evening to get so much organizating done in our rescue office, and then after all of that she took back a car load of cans.

We can’t do what we do without amazing volunteers like Lisa! ❤️

This is octobers statistics for the very full shelter that our potential new friends are at. 🥺

It’s a hard thing to see but this is what that community faced with. The amazing workers advocate so hard for those without a voice but with so many places being full and down on adoptions and donations, there is all only so many we can all do. The hard thing is, this just one of the many full shelters too.💔

If we can meet our fundraising goal, us pulling those two dogs will make room for 2 more which means together we will have helped 4 lives. 🐾🐾🐾🐾

Supporters!

As most of you know rescue work never ends. *It’s midnight and I’m just finding time to post, and in just 5 short hours I need to be up as Kenzie & I have an early morning double adoption! But what better way to start the day?!

As we are getting ready to wrap up the year, we come to you looking for some help!

It’s no secret that around here we love a certain type of black and tan dogs….

We had a shelter friend reach out and not one but TWO…. Young black and tan friends need our help that are at a very full open adoption shelter here in Michigan.If you know and love the breed like we do, then you understand they aren’t a dog for everyone. In our care once fully vetted we can help find them the right homes for success.

We want to help, but as the year comes to an end funds are almost depleted.

If you can help us reach a $675 goal by tomorrow we should be able to help both! We know it’s a BIG ask in a short period, but our friends are in a space that limited, so getting them out in the end helps 4 total dogs, as it open up their two spaces for others.

Dona update: this sweet girl has settled in to her hospice home. She has some weakness in her hind end at times, but is on pain meds and seems to still be quite comfortable.

Alumni Buddy takes caring for her quite seriously, He’s such a good BIG little brother. 🖤

Thanks again to my parents for opening their home to this sweet girl, making it possible to make her a part of the Headin’ Home family. This allows her to enjoy her remaining days in a warm home being so spoiled and loved vs a shelter.

Thanks to all our amazing supporters who make taking on hospice dogs possible! ❤️‍🩹🐾

Hi guys. Alumni Foxy here. 🤎

I’ve been so busy helping Mom take care of our new foster kittens, Calico Cass and Cayden. Mom & Aunt Kenzie calls him Floof.

They are alwaysss hungry, probably because mom puts the food up when I’m in there visiting (not like I try to sample their food each time or something.) Mom says it’s because they are growing little babies like I once was.

Well, while Mom is working and taking care of rescue dogs this morning I thought I’d come on here to see if you guys might be able to help my kitty friends out.

Mom said they have 6 growing kittens in the rescues care so the kitten food is just about out. Can you help me restock it
for my two foster kittens and my other kitten friends back at the rescue. I’s reallly loveesss kittens. Mom says that maybe I’m parts cat. that would be pretty cool cuz cats are cool.
