Tyson's Place Animal Rescue

Tyson's Place Animal Rescue Tyson's Place mission is to assist terminally ill people with finding new families for their pets.

What we do:

We believe that pets belong with their people until the very end. We assist people receiving hospice care by doing basic pet care duties, such as cleaning litter boxes and walking dogs, so that the pet can remain with the owner for as long as possible. Pets are family members, and they have the ability to comfort someone who is in his or her last days. We also set up a plan for the pe

t after the owner has passed away. If no one in the family is taking the animal, Tyson's Place Animal Rescue will arrange to have the pet live in a foster home until adopted. What we believe:

1) Pets and people deserve dignity in their golden years. People should be able to be with their pets until the end and should know that their pets will be cared for after he or she has passed away.

2) Older animals don't get adopted as quickly as younger animals in animal shelters. They often find themselves first for euthanasia because people simply don't want older animals. The shelter environment is extremely overwhelming for any animal, but even more so for a pet that has just went through the trauma of losing its owner. By intervening early, we will be able to place these animals in foster homes before they end up in shelters. By transitioning the animal to a foster home, the pet gets all the socialization and comfort of home.

3) I, as the founder, am a firm believer in what I call Rescue Done Right - which means addressing the mental well being of an animal and also realizing that euthanasia is not the worst option. I have worked in an open admission animal shelter that, at the time, has a 50% euthanasia rate, and worked with many different kinds of rescue. I am strongly opposed to the long-term warehousing of animals. I understand that cages and kennels are a temporary means of housing animals until a home can be found, but they are not meant to be used for years on end. You cannot rescue a dog and put it in a cement run for the next two years, as the animal's mental well being is dwindling, and then pat yourself on the back that you saved a life. I would be happy to further discuss these ideas and experiences with anyone who is interested.

✨ Adoption News! ✨
Our sweet little Pomeranian, Sassy, has found her forever home!

Sassy was rescued from a vacant home alongside two ill cats after her owner was hospitalized. After treating her flea infestation, helping her recover from flea allergies, spaying her, and giving her a much-needed dental (two teeth out!), she’s now happy, healthy, and ready to be spoiled.

Her new adopters are retired and were searching for a pup to love after the heartbreaking loss of their last dog — and Sassy was the perfect match. She already has a new kitty friend, a cozy sweater, and will be cruising around in style on Jeep rides with the top down.

We think her new dad might be one of the most excited adopters we’ve ever met — he spotted her on Petfinder, met her, and instantly scooped her up for cuddles.

Our sweet kitty Arnold was recently diagnosed with feline hyperesthesia, or “twitchy cat syndrome,” which causes his skin to feel like it’s crawling and makes him chew at himself. We’re now working with our vet to find the right mix of medications and diet to give him relief.

We joked with our vet that it feels like our animals always seem to have the most complicated health issues. She reminded us that it’s not that our rescue sees more problems — it’s that we take the time to truly know our animals. Because we take the time, we’re able to find and treat conditions that might otherwise go unnoticed.

This level of care is possible because of your support. Thank you for helping us give cats like Arnold the treatment they need and deserve!

This week, we were honored to help a sweet senior cat cross the rainbow bridge peacefully with the compassionate team at Heaven at Home Pet Hospice, who provided in-home euthanasia.

We learned about this situation through a heartfelt Facebook plea after the cat suffered a stroke and could no longer walk. The owner, who is battling his own health challenges and caring for a mother in the hospital fighting cancer, was overwhelmed. Without transportation, facing financial constraints, and receiving no response after calling animal control, he didn’t know where to turn.

Because of our incredible donors contributing to the Vet Care Assistance Fund, we were able to step in, provide help without judgment, and give this beloved cat a peaceful passing surrounded by love.

✨ Cole’s Amazing Comeback! ✨

When Cole came to us just about a month ago, he was on the verge of death — emaciated, covered in fleas, and so sick he couldn’t even eat. We rushed him to the emergency vet, where he was diagnosed with liver disease and dangerously high thyroid levels.

After three days of hospitalization, Cole went to one of our most experienced fosters, who has been giving him round-the-clock TLC and thyroid medication twice a day.

This week, we rechecked his bloodwork — and the results are incredible: Cole’s liver disease is gone, and with medication, his thyroid levels are finally normal!

He still needs to gain some weight and get fully vaccinated before he’ll be ready for adoption, but we are absolutely thrilled to see how far he’s come.

Look who can finally see again - Shadow! On Monday, we rescued this sweet little guy after his 91-year-old owner, heartbroken and unable to care for him, surrendered him to a vet clinic for euthanasia. Thankfully, the clinic reached out to us.

Shadow came to us with a severe eye infection that had kept his eyes sealed shut for at least two weeks. With a careful regimen of four different medications — and thanks to his incredible patience — we’re finally seeing progress. And yesterday… he opened his eyes

We had an amazing day at Bark in the Park! One of the best surprises? A visit from Daisy — a 16-year-old, mostly deaf and blind Pomeranian we adopted out last year. 🥹 Her family made the trip just to see us, and our hearts are so full after giving her a big hug and seeing how happy and loved she is. ❤️

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, played our duck pool carnival game, visited with adoptable Molly and Darcy, shared kind words, or made a donation. We couldn’t do what we do without you!

🐾 We missed National Black Cat Appreciation Day… but it’s never too late to celebrate our amazing black cats! 🐾

When Cole came to us, he was on the brink of death — starving, but too sick to eat. He spent three days in the emergency vet hospital receiving round-the-clock care, and thanks to their team and the dedication of his incredible foster mom, Kolene, he's slowly turning the corner.

Cole has been diagnosed with a thyroid disorder and now gets medication twice a day. He’s finally tapeworm-free, gaining strength, and showing us glimpses of the sweet, loving cat he’s always been underneath the illness.

Cole is one of two beautiful black cats currently in our care, and we are so hopeful that with continued love and support, he’ll make a full recovery and eventually find the forever home he deserves.

Today — and every day — we celebrate Cole and all the black cats waiting for their chance to shine.

✨ Today, the stars aligned for one very special dog. ✨

We received a call from a vet clinic about a 12-year-old pup named Shadow, who had just been surrendered for euthanasia. His 91-year-old owner, struggling to care for herself, tearfully explained that she could no longer care for her beloved dog.

Shadow arrived with eye infections that had crusted his eyes shut, dental disease, and fleas. Despite this, the vet knew that with antibiotics, lifelong eye drops, and dental care, Shadow still has plenty of life and love to give. They asked if we could step in—and we scrambled to make it happen.

Thanks to our longtime supporter Jen, who happened to be nearby, Shadow was picked up right away. In the clinic lobby, Jen met Shadow’s elderly owner, who wept with relief and hugged her, knowing her boy now had a second chance. She declined updates, comforted by the knowledge that he is safe and cared for.

Shadow will be available for adoption once he receives his dental cleaning and a clean bill of health. For now, he’s finally able to open his eyes again to see the brighter future ahead.

🎉 Big News: Sassy Has Found Her Forever Home!

After 8 months of searching, our sweet Sassy has been adopted — and the match couldn’t be more perfect. 💖

Sassy came to us with a few extra challenges: seizures, joint pain from being overweight, anxiety, and a preference for female humans. Finding the right person took time, but it was worth every moment.

Her new mom is not only a human doctor — ready and able to manage Sassy’s medical needs — but she also has two small dog siblings for Sassy. Best of all, her foster mom is the adopter’s pet sitter, so Sassy will always be surrounded by people who know her and love her.

Can you spot Molly, the sweet black pup, in this photo? 💕 She just came back from the vet after a dental cleaning and having a cracked tooth removed. The welcome-home party was immediate — Darcy, her lifelong best friend, greeted her with enthusiastic face kisses and stayed close by her side. Even the foster mom’s little dog joined the celebration!

Molly and Darcy have been inseparable for 11 years. 🐾 We’re still searching for that special home where they can stay together, just as they’ve always been.
