Tyson's Place Animal Rescue

Tyson's Place Animal Rescue Tyson's Place mission is to assist terminally ill people with finding new families for their pets.

What we do:

We believe that pets belong with their people until the very end. We assist people receiving hospice care by doing basic pet care duties, such as cleaning litter boxes and walking dogs, so that the pet can remain with the owner for as long as possible. Pets are family members, and they have the ability to comfort someone who is in his or her last days. We also set up a plan for the pe

t after the owner has passed away. If no one in the family is taking the animal, Tyson's Place Animal Rescue will arrange to have the pet live in a foster home until adopted. What we believe:

1) Pets and people deserve dignity in their golden years. People should be able to be with their pets until the end and should know that their pets will be cared for after he or she has passed away.

2) Older animals don't get adopted as quickly as younger animals in animal shelters. They often find themselves first for euthanasia because people simply don't want older animals. The shelter environment is extremely overwhelming for any animal, but even more so for a pet that has just went through the trauma of losing its owner. By intervening early, we will be able to place these animals in foster homes before they end up in shelters. By transitioning the animal to a foster home, the pet gets all the socialization and comfort of home.

3) I, as the founder, am a firm believer in what I call Rescue Done Right - which means addressing the mental well being of an animal and also realizing that euthanasia is not the worst option. I have worked in an open admission animal shelter that, at the time, has a 50% euthanasia rate, and worked with many different kinds of rescue. I am strongly opposed to the long-term warehousing of animals. I understand that cages and kennels are a temporary means of housing animals until a home can be found, but they are not meant to be used for years on end. You cannot rescue a dog and put it in a cement run for the next two years, as the animal's mental well being is dwindling, and then pat yourself on the back that you saved a life. I would be happy to further discuss these ideas and experiences with anyone who is interested.

Smokey, adopted from us, is helping us celebrate 2025. This new year is extra special to us because it means we have been assisting terminally ill people with finding new families for their pets for 10 YEARS! WOW! 🤯 We learned a lot of hard lessons along the way but figured out what works for us - limiting the amount of animals we take in so we can provide thorough veterinary care and providing peace of mind to people and their pets. Thank you everyone for a decade of support!

What better way to celebrate the new year than taking in a new cat?! Meet Charlie. This deaf sweet 12 year old girl was tossed outside after her owner died and barely managed to survive, hiding in bushes and living on handouts from the neighbors. Thankfully, a cat rescuer, Laurie, took her into her home and with the help of Furry Friends Rescue, Inc. they treated her for ear infections, fleas, and parasites. Now, she is healthy and ready for adoption. She is a sweet, outgoing girl that would love a quiet home.

As the year comes to an end, we continue our season of gratitude with a huge THANK YOU to all our adopters, past and present. We think our adopters are extra special because they see beyond the age or health diagnosis and celebrate every day with their pets - our animals live amazing second acts of life filled with love and adventure. Every update we receive truly warms our hearts.

What makes this holiday card so special? 💌

It’s from an older pet owner we were able to assist thanks to our grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization. Her elderly dog needed seizure medication and blood work, and we stepped in to help by working directly with her vet to pay the bill.

We were so touched to receive this thank-you card—it was such a sweet surprise and brought tears to my eyes! Rescue work isn’t always just about rehoming animals—it’s also about ensuring they can stay with the people who love them most.

Bandit received a stocking from his foster mom, and he loved it! This 5 year old guy is up for adoption. He would do best with an experienced cat owner who knows how to read cat body language, as he does a lot of nonverbal communication. He has excellent litter habits and can live with other animals.

We had quite a scare today when 10 year old Darcy collapsed and couldn’t get back up. We rushed her to the emergency vet, where she had a series of X-rays and tests. The diagnosis was intervertebral disk disease, which can be common in older, large dogs. We hope with the use of a sling, steroids, pain meds, and rest, she will be able to walk normally again. Thanks to our generous donors, we have the ability to get top notch vet care for our animals in need whenever they need it.

Thank you to our anonymous donors who have given us Chewy.com gift cards! We randomly receive emails that we have been gifted a Chewy gift card, and it's delightful. We use Chewy for specialty compounded medications (needed for our little dogs) and to get prescription food delivered to our foster homes. Did you know we also have a wish list at Chewy? New dog alert! Meet 10 year old Buddy, a longhair chihuahua who came to us because his owner is going into a nursing home. Buddy is a little shy with new people but warms up well. He is healthy but needs to lose at least 4 pounds so he will be started on carefully measured food and short walks. Doesn’t he have just the cutest little face?

Ruffles reporting for duty! This sweet senior girl was adopted from us and now finds herself in the role of therapy dog, complete with an official hospital badge. You can never underestimate the capabilities of older dogs - they can learn new skills. She is a hit with the patients too. We are so proud of our adopted animals and their adopters 🙂

🌟 Continuing Our Season of Gratitude 🌟

This holiday season, we're especially thankful for our incredible foster families—past and present. Because we don’t have a facility, our ability to save lives depends entirely on having open foster homes. These amazing volunteers make our mission possible!

Not only do they provide safe and loving homes, but they also help our animals heal—both physically and emotionally—until they find their forever families. ❤️

Meet our wonderful fosters, the Denton family, giving Darcy a much-deserved spa day! 🛁✨ Darcy came to us malnourished, which left her nails brittle and prone to painful cracks. After consulting with our vet, we found that keeping her nails short with a Dremel helps prevent further damage.

We are so blessed to have such compassionate volunteers who go above and beyond for our animals. Thank you for being part of their journey! 🐾

A holiday miracle for Dawg!

When Frank reached out about his late friend's 8-year-old dog, Dawg, we didn't have a spot for him in our rescue, but we saw in photos that he had a skin infection. Thanks to a grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization we covered Dawg's vet care, including vaccinations, bloodwork, and treatment for an ear and skin infection. While at the vet today for his appointment, another rescue just happened to be there and offered to take Dawg in. Talk about perfect timing! 💕

Because of you, our incredible supporters, this year we’ve:
🐾 Matched pets with loving families.
❤️ Provided lifesaving care for animals in need.

Let’s celebrate the impact we’ve made together! Drop a photo of your adopted pets, a memory of how you’ve supported, or just say hello in the comments.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of our rescue family.

🎉 Celebrating a Season of Gratitude 🎉

We want to shine a spotlight on one of our greatest allies: VCA Allendale Animal Hospital

From the very beginning of our journey nine years ago, they’ve been by our side. Through countless texts, emails, and phone calls, they’ve always been quick to respond—no matter how complex the situation.

Our adoptable animals often need extra care, from multiple vet visits to managing chronic, age-related conditions. The veterinarians at VCA Allendale provide expert guidance and compassionate, realistic advice, ensuring every pet we care for has the best possible quality of life.

We truly couldn’t make our medical miracles happen without their unwavering support. 💕 Thank you, VCA Allendale, for being part of our mission and family!

Guess who loves the snow?! 10 year old duo Darcy and Molly love running around and playing in the snow. These girls are fixed, healthy, current on vaccinations, housebroken, good with kids and small dogs and chickens. They have been together their whole lives and are looking for an adopter that wants both of them.

We don’t talk enough about our adoptable cats! Three year old Uno has been with us for the last two years, after her owner passed away. Like all cats, she has her own unique personality. She is perfectly healthy on a prescription food to prevent urinary crystals. She is a sweet, small girl that likes to sit in laps and lives successfully with small dogs. She is best as an only cat and just waiting for that right adopter to come along.

We are just on a roll with our grants! We are happy to announce we received a grant from The LeBel Foundation, a foundation based right here in West Michigan. This grant will cover the cost of full panels of bloodwork for 10 dogs or cats in our rescue. We believe in thorough veterinary care to provide the best quality of life for our animals and to increase their adoptability. This grant will set us up well for the new year and new animals. Thank you to The LeBel Foundation for this amazing gift.

Heartbreaking news about Buddy. 💔

At 15 years old, he came to us just two weeks ago from a home with a terminally ill owner and 8 other dogs. Severely underweight, with a broken jaw, painful teeth, and serious health issues, Buddy was in the worst shape we’ve ever seen in nearly 10 years of our rescue work.

His fosters Ed and Jamie loved him from the moment they met him. Despite the love, care, and comfort they gave him, we couldn’t overcome the neglect he endured. Heaven at Home Pet Hospice helped him pass peacefully today.

If you know an older adult in Michigan struggling to care for their pets, please reach out to us - early intervention and prevention can save lives. We wish Buddy had arrived in our care so much sooner. Please share your kind thoughts for Ed and Jamie in the comments as they mourn this sweet soul. 🐾❤️
