Tyson's Place Animal Rescue

Tyson's Place Animal Rescue Tyson's Place mission is to assist terminally ill people with finding new families for their pets.

What we do:

We believe that pets belong with their people until the very end. We assist people receiving hospice care by doing basic pet care duties, such as cleaning litter boxes and walking dogs, so that the pet can remain with the owner for as long as possible. Pets are family members, and they have the ability to comfort someone who is in his or her last days. We also set up a plan for the pe

t after the owner has passed away. If no one in the family is taking the animal, Tyson's Place Animal Rescue will arrange to have the pet live in a foster home until adopted. What we believe:

1) Pets and people deserve dignity in their golden years. People should be able to be with their pets until the end and should know that their pets will be cared for after he or she has passed away.

2) Older animals don't get adopted as quickly as younger animals in animal shelters. They often find themselves first for euthanasia because people simply don't want older animals. The shelter environment is extremely overwhelming for any animal, but even more so for a pet that has just went through the trauma of losing its owner. By intervening early, we will be able to place these animals in foster homes before they end up in shelters. By transitioning the animal to a foster home, the pet gets all the socialization and comfort of home.

3) I, as the founder, am a firm believer in what I call Rescue Done Right - which means addressing the mental well being of an animal and also realizing that euthanasia is not the worst option. I have worked in an open admission animal shelter that, at the time, has a 50% euthanasia rate, and worked with many different kinds of rescue. I am strongly opposed to the long-term warehousing of animals. I understand that cages and kennels are a temporary means of housing animals until a home can be found, but they are not meant to be used for years on end. You cannot rescue a dog and put it in a cement run for the next two years, as the animal's mental well being is dwindling, and then pat yourself on the back that you saved a life. I would be happy to further discuss these ideas and experiences with anyone who is interested.

Losing your vision is hard. Losing your owner is even harder. And for a blind dog, ending up in a shelter on top of all that is almost unimaginable.

Thankfully, the compassionate team at the Newaygo County Shelter kept sweet Mikey in their office so he didn’t have to navigate the shelter alone. They knew he needed a rescue, so they shared his story online — and one of our wonderful followers (thank you, Cheryl! ) tagged us.

Today, we were able to pick up Mikey and settle him into a loving foster home. He’s just 3 years old. We don’t yet know what caused his blindness, but he’ll be visiting an ophthalmologist soon so we can learn more. He’s also been on a human-food diet for quite a while, so he’s about double the weight he should be, and he’ll need to be neutered as well.

Once we get his medical needs addressed and he has time to decompress, Mikey will be ready for adoption.

Isn’t he the most handsome little pug?

We are thrilled to share some wonderful news! 💛

Thanks to a generous grant from the Petfinder Foundation, we’re able to help our adopter cover the cost of Cole’s thyroid medication — support that truly makes a difference for our special seniors.

And even better… Cole’s foster mom, Kolene, has officially adopted him!
These two have formed such a beautiful bond. Cole adores her so much that he waits in the window for her to come home from work and greets her at the door every day. He even loves her other cats and brings them toys to play.

Cole has overcome so much. He first came to us after being left alone in a home when his owner went into the hospital. He was starving, dehydrated, and so ill that he required several days of hospitalization at the emergency vet.

His transformation has been incredible — just take a look at his before-and-after photos below. 💙

We are so grateful to everyone who helped make his happy ending possible.

We had five adoptions this month — three cats and two dogs! One of them was sweet Rosie the Morkie, whose new mom already has walking routes mapped out and a whole bin of stuffed toys ready for her to enjoy.

Stay tuned for more happy-tail updates on our other adopted animals! 🐾💛

Our gorgeous Luella was adopted just a week ago, and late last night her adopters reached out in a panic—she was suddenly having trouble breathing. They immediately rushed her to the emergency vet, where she was placed in an oxygen tank and diagnosed with an asthma attack.

Thanks to their quick action and excellent veterinary care, Luella is doing much better today. She’s home, resting comfortably with steroid treatment and a follow-up vet visit already scheduled.

At Tyson’s Place, our commitment to our animals doesn’t end at adoption. We were grateful to be able to support Luella’s adopters through this unexpected medical scare, ensuring she gets the care she needs to continue thriving in her new home

🎉 Exciting News! 🎉

We’re honored to share that our organization has been selected as the recipient of the Michigan Pet Alliance’s 2025 Better Together Creative Programs Grant! 💙🐾

This recognition is especially meaningful because it comes from our fellow animal welfare peers who understand the importance of our work supporting older adults and their pets. Our program helps seniors access essential veterinary care so they can keep their beloved companions by their side — where they belong.

This $2,000 grant will allow us to help even more older adults with veterinary expenses, improving the health and quality of life of both pets and their people.

We’re incredibly grateful for this support and for everyone who believes in our mission

Big thanks to Splash and Dash Groomerie & Boutique in Grand Rapids for giving Rosie, age 5, her very first grooming experience!
They went at her pace, made it gentle and positive, and she did amazingly. She’s adjusting so well in her foster home and already going on mile-long walks! Once we treat her ear infections successfully, she will be ready for adoption.

New dog alert! Meet Rosie, a 5 year old Morkie (Maltese/yorkie) that came to us after her owner could no longer care for her. She is dog and cat friendly and loves to go on walks and play with stuffed toys. We are treating ear infections and once those are cleared up, she will be ready for adoption. Isn’t she adorable?

Look at this sweet grey muzzle ❤️

Bella is 9 years old, and when her owner passed away, she hadn’t seen a vet in quite some time. Her family wanted to care for her, but the medical costs felt overwhelming.

We stepped in to help — covering her vaccines, bloodwork, and the advanced testing needed after results showed possible kidney or Addison’s disease.

Because of this support, Bella gets to stay with the family she loves, and get the care she needs to feel her best.

This is why we do what we do. Thank you to everyone who supports our work!

Adoptable cat alert! Luella is a confident and social 10-year-old cat who knows exactly what she wants. She loves exploring, solving food puzzles, chatting with her humans, and choosing your lap as her royal throne — but only wants pets when she’s in the mood. If her tail starts “dancing,” it means “admire me, don’t pet me.” 😸

Luella will thrive with an experienced cat person who respects feline boundaries and enjoys a cat with big personality. Daily brushing required for her gorgeous coat.

If you love a queen with opinions and endless charm, Luella just might choose you.
