How did we miss this!
Especially now with a new Best Pal who is a Dachshund! Yesterday was the longest day of the year and we welcome this long dog. His name is Riley, he is 4. He was brought to BestPals Animal Rescue by his family who is facing homelessness. They brought Riley’s buddy, Lando, who is a Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix. They also brought their cats. We are getting everyone vet checked and up to date on shots and they will be available soon!
On a very serious note, when we have families come to us under these circumstances or if they are living in their cars or some other sad situation like this, we always check that everyone is safe. That the people have a place to go. We help to network people to places. We move slowly with our intake, we discuss options, asking if they need help finding a program that allows them to keep their pets. But in this case there were 5 pets and little options. If we do take the pet in we let the people stay as long as they feel comfortable. We explain the benefits of a small rescue where many of the dogs live with our Director. We will send pictures and updates if the past owners would like. We make the best out of a very sad situation. We were grateful we could keep the dogs together and the cats together. Next we sit with the animals and let them know they are safe and they are loved. This is our promise!

Introducing Bucky and Coco! 🐾💖
These two seniors are the newest additions to the BestPals family. After losing their owner, we welcomed them with open arms.

Bucky, 11, is a gentle soul who loves strolling on a leash and getting along with his feline friend. However, he has a bit of a mischievous streak - our director's cat gets a playful bark! 😜 After treating his ear infection and starting allergy medication, Bucky's on the mend.

Coco, his companion, is a sweet and chatty girl who loves treats and snuggles. She's a relaxed and laid-back lady who enjoys sleeping and cuddling.

While they don't need to be adopted together, giving them a forever home as a pair would be a dream come true!
Seniors are truly special!

When I first met Rocky, his story was one of resilience and hope. Despite being neglected for a long time, he hadn't lost his spark. I tried to pet him, but he winced in pain, revealing the depth of his suffering. He was battling a double ear infection, and his matted fur was pulling on his skin, causing him immense pain. His previous owner had moved away, leaving him behind, and the new family didn't have the resources to care for him. With no vet records, we were told he was almost two years old, and we were determined to give him a second chance. We rushed him to our vet, Dr.Bader DVM at Jimbabwe Acres, PC who introduced us to a new ear medicine that would help alleviate his infection. Further testing revealed he also had a urinary tract infection. We knew he needed all his shots, heartworm testing and we scheduled his surgery. This sweet boy needed some rest and recovery, and we soon discovered he was housebroken, crate-trained, and pretty good on a leash. Despite his ordeal, he remained a loving and affectionate dog, always leaning in for hugs and cuddles. He loves everyone and has the potential to be a perfect companion for any family. While he's still healing, he's getting better every day, and we're excited to see him thrive. If you'd like to meet Rocky, please fill out an application on our website.

Rocky: neutered male, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on preventative, almost 2 yrs old and is a Doodle.

Hello all! We are so excited that the Boy Scouts are so eager to help improve our Rescue!
Alex Grzan is working on an Eagle Project aimed at improving the facilities at BestPals Animal Rescue Center, a no-kill shelter. Our shelter plays a crucial role in providing a safe haven for animals in need, and Alex’s project will make a significant difference.

He plans to install underground fencing, build a new storage shed, and enhance the landscaping. These improvements will not only help our shelter operate more efficiently but also create a better environment for the animals awaiting their forever homes.

Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward these improvements. If you can, please consider contributing to this meaningful cause. Your support can help Alex make a lasting impact for the animals at BestPals.

Bentley: if every comment, every like and every heart is a stepping stone to Rainbow Bridge then Bentley has arrived safely to the other side. Removing whatever was lodged in his throat was not possible. We lost Bentley at 3 am at the emergency vet in Holland.

We here at BestPals feel the love, support and compassion you share with us! Thank you! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We will face today with yet more challenges and continue to love each and every pet with our whole heart!!
Thank you for your support!

In football, a Hail Mary pass is notable for its considerable distance and high risk, suggesting that a miraculous catch is required for the play to be successful. In rescue, we are requesting a Hail Mary for a pup that is about to undergo a procedure tonight. The odds are not in his favor, and we need a miracle. We kindly request that you send love, good vibes, and positive thoughts to a young dog named Bentley. He is a sweet canine and only 2 years old. Please, Bentley, hold on and make it through the night.

Please welcome our newest adoptable kitty, Pi! She is 8 months old and is a big puddle of love! The second we walk up to her kennel, she starts purring so loud I think the neighbors can hear! She absolutely loves belly rubs and all the affection she can get. As she has only been with us a couple days, she feels pretty comfortable inside her kennel, but hasn’t made her way out yet to play, but we know the bravery will come soon!
From our experience with her, we believe Pi will do good with other cats and kids. She is not overly comfortable with dogs but we believe with a slow introduction she can learn to adapt.
If you are interested in adopting Pi please fill out an application here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeNguOvLAegFz6fHvYaA4_z3PhM-y9gBgNRrtQUNuAWbu2IqQ/viewform

Community request!!
If you have been to our rescue, you have seen all our bird feeders outside of the windows of the cat building. As much as we love having the birds around, we don’t do it just for them, we do it for our cats! Our cats love to sit up high and watch the birds. Only problem is that we are out of bird food! We are asking for donations of bird seed. Next time you’re out shopping, please consider picking up a bag for our feline friends!

In addition, here is our Amazon wish list. If anything is ordered from here, it will be shipped directly to us: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/EXO0YOFH1NBM?ref_=abls_nvfly_yl

Incoming! James and Sophie update!! James and Sophie were brought to us after their owner passed away. They stayed with us for 8 months at Best Pals, as most people want younger dogs, and not 10 year old dogs. Well we got lucky when the perfect person who wanted two older dogs stopped in! We knew they just had to meet James and Sophie. The new owner fell in love and it’s safe to say James and Sophie have as well. We are so happy that these two senior dogs are thriving and living out their golden years in their fur-ever home!

We would love to give a huge shout out to West Michigan Wildlife Center! When my cat brought the tiniest baby bunny to my door and it was alive and seemed unharmed, I called this center. I refer people to this organization, and now it was my turn to reach out and ask for help. I texted the number and waited for a reply. I received a message asking what I needed help with. I told them about the baby bunny, and they sent me instructions. I was not to feed this little baby, and I was to meet them in Grand Rapids at 5:00. When I arrived in the parking lot, there were at least 20 other people there with their own boxes of injured, orphaned, or incapacitated wildlife. While we waited our turn to give them our precious bundles, I asked others if I could see what they had in their boxes. There were several bunnies, injured birds, an opossum, and other wildlife.
Some people had driven well over an hour to get there. I was overjoyed that so many people cared so much about these small creatures, and I am grateful that there is an amazing organization run by volunteers to take these animals and care for them until they are ready to be released. Thank you for giving me a glimpse into your world, WMWC!
