Welcome our new clients, Tina & Rusty
Rusty is an anxious dog who has nipped a delivery person and is also nervous when people come to the house. He is sound sensitive with generalized anxiety. This is their first session in the studio, and our goal is to build his confidence and we do that by setting up a confidence course for him. Our goals will be to get him to put his front paws on an object then his back paws on an object and then get in an object. At first he was very nervous of the table so we had to make it shorter by taking the legs off of it and putting the “magic carpet” on it. The video is long because the very first part of it took him a while to even be comfortable with the table, but once we showed him what we wanted him to do, he very quickly put front paws and then all paws and then sat on the tableThen we transitioned to the higher table which he could not do at first! We then used the box which he got into.
Soooo proud of this team and can’t wait to see his continued progress!
No shock no prong no fear!

We have a fun weekend planned and would like to invite you all to join us

This afternoon at 4:00, we will have our Game Night. Bring your favourite beverage, snack and game. Come on in out of the cold and join us for a fun Saturday!

Tomorrow (Sunday) at 4:00 at Swancreek park, Airport entrance we will have a Group Dog Walk with a few tricks thrown in for fun. Let’s get our steps in this new year!

We’ve been busy at the studio with our group classes. Here’s our preschoolers rocking it out at their very first class.

We just love hearing these Pupdates! Krypto was one of our most reactive dogs- basically screamed when he saw another dog 100’s of yards away as well as cars and people. He is successfully working in the studio 25-30 feet from other dogs and getting ready for group classes. All done without shock or prong collars!

“Krypto has been doing so well! We even went to Swan Creek and did some successful trigger work with dogs there. The picture in October. His first time back in the park since he was about a year old since his reactivity was so severe. There were so many triggers and he handled them all like a champ! I cried when we came home! I was so proud! He is really trusting me to help him get through it.”

I’ve been quite saddened by all the new shock and prong collar trainers in this area! Especially those training service dogs with these methods. The stress these dogs are experiencing is evident in their body language: shaking head when shocked, tail tucked, crouching, lip licking, whining, appeasement signs of submission. Before investing in a trainer or recommending a trainer, please check them out. Watch some of their videos on their website and social media, zoom in to see what type of training equipment is used. When someone asks me for a referral to a trainer, either in this area or out of town, I research their website and social media page. I will never refer to a trainer that uses these methods, especially if I see their dogs in such distress like I observed in videos I watched recently 😞.
Why do we need to use these methods when we can change behaviour and create a happy, willing partner?
The other part of training is teaching the dog parent to use the techniques. No matter how great of a trainer you are, there will always be a time when your timing is off. When using reward based methods , the worst that can happen is your dog gets an extra cookie. With punishment based methods, your dog can be punished for an unknown reason which creates more anxiety for the dog.
We have a Trade-In program for our clients who may have used these methods . We will trade your shock or prong collars for a front hook harness!

Please stop! There are better solutions and methods for our treasured friends!
