Nothing beats a good lesson outside of the arena on a beautiful fall day π First time galloping for both Sophee and Rylee and the first time Annie has taken Princess outside of the arena. Draco, as you can see, is always ready for a good gallop and thankfully his kid is also always game π
Sometimes one of the best things you can do is step back and simply let students enjoy their horse. Let them play, have fun, and not worry about being perfect. (Although I do cringe a little seeing them on the wrong lead π)
Not only is it a good mental reset for both horse and rider, but typically these lessons are huge confidence builders, especially for students who aren't natural risk takers.
There is something that is truly healing about riding a horse in an open area, on a pretty day, with few restrictions.
"Let them do dangerous things, safely."

This mare has really grown up this year and has started to come into her own. While I had planned on developing her into a little jumper mare, the longer I own her the more I feel like she is best suited for the jr hunter ring. She'll just need a tail extension until hers grows back... Thanks to Peanut π
Cowgirl the cow pony. Keep your silly, derpy geldings and give me all the mares π
Smokey has become a tried and true 2'6" packer.
Taking lessons for years and never learning to canter is not normal no matter who you are. Should riders canter before they are ready? Absolutely not. But if you have been taking lessons for over a year (and are not a toddler) and are still not ready and/or being allowed to canter, get a new trainer. Horses have four gaits, only ever learning two of them doesnt make a whole lot of sense. Whether you lack confidence or simply do not have access to horses and/or trainers that are appropriate for your current skill level, I 100% guarantee you will make progress here. π«Ά

Lessons for Tues-Thurs will not be taking place due to the amount of trail rides we do during the holiday break. So if you would like a lesson this week, tomorrow is the day!

7 year old OTTB
16-16.1 hh
Located at Griffin Cattle & Equine in Holliday, TX
Anyone looking for a fun project? We've had this guy in the barn for about 60 days and have spent the majority of that time getting weight on him and getting his feet healthy. He is a green 7 year old OTTB and is puppy dog gentle. I haven't taken a stick to him yet but would put him right at 16-16.1 hh. Definitely a kick ride and not at all sensitive or reactive to anything in our barn... and if you've been here you know how impressive that is. He is currently barefoot, stands tied as well as any cowboy broke quarter horse I've ever met, loads, and is perfectly behaved for the farrier. While he is certainly green, he is still a very uncomplicated ride and is incredibly willing to do anything that is asked of him.

This video was taken about 3 weeks ago, the very first time I even sat on the guy. Im happy to get updated video this week for anyone who is interested.
Well done, Team!
We had a successful day at Equifest with a few of our lesson horses plus Princess and Cardi. I took 11 riders total and they came home with 9 firsts, 8 seconds, 9 thirds, 5 fourths, 4 fifths, and 1 sixth. Just about every rider won money and between all of them they won a few hundred dollars! It was a first horse show for every rider except for Nancy and Dakota and a great learning experience for all. Four of my riders have actually been in my program for less than three months and one just had her first jump lesson two weeks ago... and she pulled a second place in the crossrail division!
A huge thank you to Jared, owner of Griffin Cattle & Equine for all of the help and support. If you want a safe horse, I am telling you, this is the place to get it. Throughout the past six years I've sat on more of his horses than I can count and every last one of them has had a wonderful, correct start and has been puppy dog gentle.
I didn't get much video because I was super busy all day but I did try my best to include everyone. Parents if you have video or pictures, feel free to send them to me! I unfortunately got almost nothing of our jump rounds and definitely neglected to pull out my phone for a handful of the flat classes.
When I tried this horse in Austin 10 weeks ago I text her now owner "BUY HER NOW" before I had even stepped out of the arena. Every week since she has made me feel like we really did hit the jackpot finding her. She is forward but still quiet, smart, willing, kind, and definitely a worker bee. Those traits combined with being a lovely mover make her the perfect mount for an aspiring AA.

Highlights from this week's intermediate group. We were just missing Sawyer!
I'm a few weeks late on this post... Welcome to Texoma Equesttian, Cardi (B π). I sourced this darling mare out of Austin last month for her now owner, Nancy Springer. I loved her when I tried her in central Texas and loved her even more when I got to finally sit on her at home a few weeks ago. Cardi's career has been spent primarily in the jumper ring but she will be making the transition to dressage and eventing in the coming months. This little doll was quite the find and will make a perfect partner for her new owner.
Congratulations, Nancy Dax Springer!
