SAFE of Putnam County Our business is saving lives. We provide shelter, food, medical care and love to otherwise homeless We are a no-kill animal shelter for cats and dogs.
(39)

We received our IRS 501(c)(3) status in 1981 and became no-kill in mid-2003. Since our founding, we have saved over 30,000 cats and dogs that were neglected, abandoned or surrendered to high-kill shelters. Our shelter is located at 112 Norma Street in Hollister, FL. It is just off Hwy 20, between Palatka and Interlachen. At any point, it is home to up to 150 cats, dogs, kittens and puppies who rec

eive all medical care, vaccinations, shelter and love from paid staff and volunteers until we can find their forever homes. We are a private charity and all donations are deductible to the extent allowed by law. We receive no monies from federal, state or local government. Neither do we receive funding from national organizations like the ASPCA or HSUS. We exist solely on the kindness of our donors and benefactors, and the relatively small amount raised by our adoptions. With 120 animals at the shelter, it costs at least $500 per day to provide the necessary care. We pay our shelter staff minimum wage for the most part. No employee at our shelter or Thrift Store has ever made over $40,000, including the cost of overtime and employer paid payroll taxes. No officer or director receives any compensation, and never has.
