Adoption #93 was Cardi. She was rescued from a hoarder's house in Flint, along with her mom and siblings. She couldn't have been luckier, though, because she found a family that absolutely adores her to give her a forever home!

Our story began in the surgery room of a non-profit rescue. Dr. Ashley Hotchkiss had just finished school and was working as the surgeon. The only thing she could imagine using her new degree for was spaying and neutering to help deal with over population. As a doctor, she wanted to relieve others of the pain and sorrow of euthanizing the unwanted. Haley Jackson was our Veterinarian Assistant and she found herself wanting to be around animals all the time. Her previous jobs were unable to hold her attention because they did not involve her passion. Animals are very comfortable around her and she is almost magically able to bring them out of their shells. Alyssa Pennington was the Licensed Veterinarian Technician and she had also just gotten out of school. Her passion and main goal was to save as many animals as she could. She dreamed of being able to take care of the damaged and the broken.
We quickly found that we were all very much alike. We realized that our goals were so closely related and that led us into very close friendships. As our friendships grew, we decided that the best way we could help animals and the community would be to open Pawsitive Care. In our eyes, the more we educate people about animals the more animals we will be able to save. It is about making veterinarian medicine affordable and understandable for everyone!
Shorty thereafter our team was offered jobs running a surgery room for another non-profit. This got us one step closer to having our own practice. We made it clear that this would be a short-term job for us while we saved money and made renovations to open Pawsitive Care. Now look at where we are!
From the first day the three of us met we have each been fulfilling our passions. We have cared for many animals; the majority of them ill or abused. Our team has altered thousands of animals to help control the population and result in fewer unwanted animals. We have supported one another during the hard times and also been there to celebrate our successes. We have even cared for some unfortunate puppies that were fighting parvovirus. Some of those puppies were able to do very well with supportive care and some sadly did not. We strove for all of them to survive and when some didn't, all we had was the support of one another to lean on. As a team, we have also treated heartworm, which can take a heavy toll on the animal. Both of these diseases are always hard for us to watch because both are completely avoidable. If these people had been informed that vaccines and preventatives would stop these pathogens, they could have avoided harm to their animals.
Our collective experiences before and after we met are what drive us to reach our goals. The number of animals that we can save by vaccinating, altering or providing preventatives could skyrocket if we can educate and serve this community. Our community!
