Listen, I am by NO MEANS a groomer & that’s why I personally only keep wash and wear dogs…but if someone needs a little touch up for safety reasons & you’re only concerned with function…I’ll gladly help 😂 The hair between some breeds’ paw pads does grow & needs a bit of trimming to keep the dog safe. Slipping & sliding on any hard surface could potentially lead to an accident or an injury. Dogs feet and nails being maintained is also detrimental to their movement! Nails that are too long can cause the paws to spread out and over time , possibly cause arthritis & mobility issues! So remember to maintain your dogs nails & feet. If you’re someone who utilizes professional grooming services, please ensure the nails are kept at a healthy length. I have seen many a dog with nails that are almost painfully long! If you find your pups nails are a bit longer than you expected, have a chat with your groomer to come up with a game plan to address it! And if they are having a hard time getting your dog to co-operate during nail maintenance, reach out to me & I can assist ☺️
We, as adults, absolutely must take responsibility when it comes to child & dog interactions.
Children should never be left unsupervised with dogs & we also need to teach the littles how to appropriately interact with our four legged friends! Be your child’s and your dog’s advocates by guiding youngins during interactions.
Some of the most basic methods i utilize :
No leaning over the dog
No running/screaming around the dogs Never be in the dogs face
Hands off & space given to dogs with food, toys etc
When petting: two seconds of petting, then hands off...if dog still seeks pets, repeat Do not disturb or touch sleeping dogs
ABSOLUTELY NO: sitting on or “riding” dogs
These are just SOME of the safety precautions I utilize when handling children & dog interactions.
What are some ways you manage these interactions?

Fourth of July
If you’re unsure how your dog feels about fireworks or you have not exposed your pups to similar loud sounds & the smell of gun powder..I strongly recommend NOT trying that this week. Instead, opt to keep your dogs safe & inside. Play games with them, do their favorite indoor activity & create positive experiences whilst the ruckus goes on outside! #dogs #fourthofjuly #doglover #dogsafety #dogsafetytips #dogsafetyfirst #dogsofinstagram
Seems this week is meant to be monsoon weather, so the dog pacer arriving today was perfect. None of these pups have been on a pacer before so we take our time. They all did amazing & I am so proud of them!
Starting some new adventures with my puppy alongside Marissa's with her puppy! Thank you Marquise at New Era Dog Training , the dogs had a great experience yesterday♥️
One service we offer is structured walks. Each walk will look different based on the dog. Generally before we even set out for our walk we take a few minutes and go over well known cues with the dog or introduce some new things. Here is my buddy Leo today before we set out for a bit of exercise and mental stimulation 🩵
One thing we can assure you is that even when you have a pack of dogs, they will get individual attention whilst in our care. I deeply believe that this is super important 🩵💜
We soon will be opening up some space to accept new clients for exclusive puppy training programs in collaboration with my dear friend & colleague, Marissa. Programs will include, but are not limited to, potty training, crate training, loose leash walking, recall, cooperative care and more! #MiamiPuppies #miamipets #miamidogtraining
Having the privilege to care for folks beloved animals is genuinely an honor. Getting to watch puppies starting to blossom into adulthood and come into their own while also witnessing genetic traits passed from their parents onto them, is nothing short of amazing.
Another successful enrichment canine camp in partnership with Marissa’s in the books! 💗💗🐾🐾 (Facebook won’t allow me to tag her page?)
Positive associations to muzzles
Here at Pawsitively Purrfect Pets, we believe in proactive training. We never know when we may need a certain skill in a pinch!
I understand that muzzles can be “scary” looking but I assure you, the dog won’t see it that way if we create positive associations to them. This means we make the learning process exciting and super rewarding for the dog.
“Well how do you do that?” you ask…
Let me show you ☺️
In the video below I show two dogs (apologies for some of the angles)
The first is Bali- she had never been introduced to a muzzle prior to this week & this video is of our second less than five minute session.
The second dog is my personal dog, (Za) who started his muzzle conditioning within the first day he arrived home @ 11 weeks of age.
We start firstly by being ✨happy✨ to interact with the dog. I place a treat inside the muzzle and allow them to retrieve it. We only reward while they have their nose inside the muzzle. Lots of repetitions, then we can add whichever command we choose. I never attempt to actually fasten the muzzle in the first sessions. We just work on asking them to willingly offer the behavior of inserting their snout in.
The next step would be to then just hold the muzzle in place for a moment or two, reward them through the treat hole & release. Build duration from there. After several sessions like this over a period of time, I would then just hold the straps in place for a second , reward and then release. Again, building duration and then working your way up to fastening the muzzle. Once you get to the fastening of the muzzle, we then build up duration from there. Pay close attention to your dog, keep them engaged with you so as not to give them an opportunity to attempt removal of the muzzle. 🗣️PAY YOUR DOG🗣️ Lots of yummy treats inside the muzzle!! And while they are still focused on you , release them from the muzzle and go play! Remember- reward ONLY while the muzzle is on for this exercise - we d
