Trying different paint schemes based on other Turkey references. This one is 🤩. I think I’m going to stick with this one for a while. It also helps to have a reliable freeze dry company, he’s a world champion for a reason!

We had a great weekend all the way over in Sutton, WV for their state taxidermy convention and competition. I want to thank my wife and the kids for their support as well by making the long 6 hour drive 😅.

I was awarded “People’s Choice” for the Fish category. (Red drum)

1st Place Professional Division Competitors Award. This award was based on the accumulative score of all four of my pieces entered (deer, turkey, fish & goose)

It was a long haul with all of those pieces but I do this for not just myself but for you guys and gals as well. I want to create a little “peace of mind”, by showing I am capable of producing a variety of mounts with great results.

Today’s Turkey head paint job. Don’t sleep on these replicas, they paint up real nice. Only thing missing is the little hairs. This bird will be put together later this week.

After a turkey is fleshed, washed and rinsed several times it has to be dried and fluffed back up to normal. These feathers don’t lay back in their normal position. I take tweezers and adjust EVERY SINGLE one.

I hope everyone is having better luck than me on opening day. Put this big boy (22 lbs) together last night, still adjusting feathers so that he looks nice and clean!
