In honor of opening day of bow season, I thought I would share something that I’ve been working on for a litte while now. Instead of using other replacement noses, I have made my very own custom ones. This is casted from a real deer nose, so you will get the full interior septum detail. It takes several pours and pulls from silicone molds to perfect the shape I want, and now I finally have a finished product.

So all deer starting now, will get a custom replacement nose made right here. As time goes on, I will be making other parts for all game. My goal is to make everyone feel like they’re getting a custom made piece back and not the boring, assembly commercial line work.

Good luck to everyone going out tomorrow for opening day! Make good and smart arrow placements, found next day deer in early season are no good.

Just a friendly reminder, if you bag a buck with velvet, do NOT play around with it. Immediately get it some where cold like a walk-in or a deer processor.

Also, all velvet racks brought to me will be sent out to be freeze dried at an additional cost (expect about a dollar an inch, minimum). No exceptions, unless it’s in its dried out peeling stage, I know what to do for that. I don’t care how this person or that person does it, freeze drying is 100% the way to go!

I attended the MD Taxidermy Association competition this weekend in Frederick, MD and let’s just say, it was a roller coaster of emotions. As some of you know by now, my dog Behr passed away early Saturday morning. Behr has been battling lung cancer for about two months. We have been in and out of the vets, while trying different medications to keep him comfortable.

My wife told me friday evening that Behr is just not doing ok and that this could be it. Something was just telling me to go home. I left Frederick Friday night and made it back home to be with him. Unfortunately, Behr passed away in his sleep early Saturday morning.

My competitive drive had been instantly exhausted and nonexistent. Part of me wanted to stay home but the other part was saying, “get your ass back up there” because I knew I had a very nice deer in the show. So we made our way back up to Frederick for the banquet and awards ceremony.

It was a bittersweet moment when I received the Maryland State Champion Open Mouth Whitetail category award. I also received the Pro-1 award for the highest scoring whitetail in the professional division, as well as a first place scoring habitat.

I want to thank my wife for her support by comforting Behr while I was gone because she knew I had been spending countless hours and days on this piece. I also want to thank those from the association that assisted me in any way while I made my way back home.

**DUCK/WATERFOWL ANNOUNCEMENT**

Much like deer season, duck season has been great this year. Busy is not even the word to describe how it’s been this season and by that I thank you all for your support. With that being said, I am closing the doors on ducks/waterfowl for the season. I will always keep a few spots open for old customers, I am NOT taking in anymore new customers. Also, if we have already spoken and you’re waiting for the end of the season to collect a few more, I will honor it.
I am trying to stay around my 12-14 month turnaround time for you all. I gave up my deer season for you guys, so if you are still waiting I appreciate your patience. I will open back up for turkey season, see you all in the spring!

Thank you,

Britt
